Instructions for the Joint Project Pivot Joint Supplies Needed ;; A brad ;; Cardstock ;; Scissors ;; Hole Punch Instructions Cut two rectangles out of the cardstock. Then, punch a hole at the end of each of the rectangles. Use the brad to fasten the two together to create a working pivot joint. Hinge Joint Supplies Needed ;; 2 Lengths of 1x2 boards ;; ½ Inch hinge ;; Several screws ;; Screwdriver Instructions Lay the two boards end to end. Open the hinge and lay it across the point at which the boards meet. Use the screws and screwdriver to attach a side of the hinge to each of the boards. Once it is secure, you can open and shut the boards just like a hinge joint. Gliding Joint Supplies Needed ;; 2 Dominoes ;; 2 Rubber bands Instructions Lay the two dominoes face to face. Secure them together with the rubber bands, one lengthwise and one widthwise. Now, you can slide the two dominoes back and forth just like the bones in a gliding joint. Ball and Socket Joint Supplies Needed ;; 1 Length of ½ plastic pipe ;; 1 Length of ¾ plastic pipe ;; 1 ½ Plastic pipe tee ;; 1 ¾ Plastic pipe tee ;; Pipe saw ;; 2 Rubber bands Instructions Use the pipe saw to cut the top of the ¾ tee in half so that it forms a cup. Fit the ¾ pipe into the cut ¾ tee. Fit the ½ pipe into the ½ tee. Now fit the ½ tee into the cup of the cut ¾ tee. Use the two rubber bands to secure the two tees together and create a working ball and socket joint. The Sassafras Guide to Anatomy ~ Appendix 113
