Alpha Tau Crescent Alpha Gamma Rho Fraternity Summer 2015 www.wiuagr.com Western Illinois As the 2015 Spring Semester comes to a close, I would like to reflect on all the progress that the Alpha Tau Chapter has made. We have worked diligently together and my heart felt appreciation goes out to those executive board members who have put forth the effort to make this semester productive. To start, I would like to congratulate our four Spring of 2015 initiates as they have shown what it takes to be a true brother of Alpha Gamma Rho. Since February there have been many exciting events that have taken place at Alpha Tau. The first of those being our 52 nd annual Founders Day. It was truly inspiring to see alumni come and hear about our achievements on campus and in our community. We had 40 plus alumni members in attendance this year, starting with a short meeting at the house followed by dinner at the University Rec Center. Following our Founders Day was Greek Week. During the week of April 6 Alpha Tau was paired with Sigma Pi, Sigma Lambda Beta and Alpha Sigma Alpha to compete in a variety of activities on campus. Unfortunately however we were unsuccessful in placing within the top three overall teams, but there was still some rewarding times. At the completion of Greek Week, all the Greek organizations came together and had a banquet. Here, Alpha Tau was recognized for winning the Connect, communicate and discuss. President s Award, the highest honor any fraternity or sorority can be granted, for the 5 th year in a row. Along with this we won the Outstanding Membership Development, External Relations, Chapter GPA, Chapter Leadership and Membership Accountability awards. These awards were taken with humbleness as this was due to the hard work and dedication of all the members of the Chapter. Our final event of the semester was our 7 th Annual Golf Outing taking place on April 25. While the weather may not have cooperated with us like we had hopped, this event still raised $3,823 dollars. This money was graciously donated to the Reagan Shippert Educational fund, on behalf of her father Brad who was a member of the fraternity. As I conclude this report for the semester, I would just like to say that it is truly an inspiration to be surrounded by such hardworking a dedicated individuals as those in the Alpha Tau house. Along with the enthusiastic and dedicated alumni who work hard to keep the proud traditions of the Alpha Tau house moving into the future. VNR Alumni Relations Report As we are finishing up the Spring 2015 semester at Alpha Tau, and move into summer, we would like to share what the chapter has been doing. When it came down to putting this crescent together I realized that we needed to cover more than just the activities we participated in over the semester, so I asked the members of the executive-board to give a brief summary of what they were able to accomplish in their positions throughout the semester. With that being stated, I will move onto Founders Day. While I was not able to attend due to illness, I understand that everyone seemed to enjoy themselves being back in Macomb reliving times that they had had and connecting with Brothers new and older. It sadden me that I was not able to attend, but it gives me something to look forward to in the future to be able to connect with the Brothers of Alpha Tau I have yet to meet. Sam Woodrow #1151 VNR Alumni Relations As the spring 2015 school semester draws to a close, we would like to give the alumni of the Alpha Gamma Rho Alpha Tau chapter a brief recap of our accomplishments made in both philanthropic and Greek events throughout the first half of the 2015 calendar year. On April 25 we held our 7 th annual charity golf outing at Golden Hills Golf Course in Carthage. Amidst the rain and dreariness of the day, the head golf pro said it was the busiest and most successful AGR golf outing he has seen to date. For the event we raised more than $7,500 and after expenses were able to donate nearly $4,000 of it to Reagan Shippert s educational fund. This fund was founded by Reagan s father, Brad, in honor of his late wife and Reagan s mother, Erin, who passed away this last December after a long battle with pancreatic cancer. Brad, is an alumni of Alpha Tau, and Erin was an alumni of Chi Omega, both from chapters here at Western. These proceeds will be used to help ease the financial distress caused by the loss of a loving wife and mother. We can only measure our success in terms of monetary donation, but we feel as though it runs much deeper than that. The support that Brad and Reagan received not only lifted their spirits, but ours as well. We were all reminded of our great alumni base of brotherhood, no matter what the age and pin number. Although we take great pride in our philanthropic achievements throughout the semester, active members of the Alpha Tau chapter are involved in much more VNR Activities Report around campus than just these events. Being involved heavily in Greek life, along with this semester came the week of the Greek, or here on campus known as, Greek Week. We were paired with the Alpha Sigma Alpha sorority and Sigma Pi fraternity, both of which we were happy to work with. As the week drew to a close, we looked back on our achievements and realized once again we had proven ourselves to be outstanding men within the Greek community. We as the active Alpha Tau chapter see involvement within this community as more than just showing up, but a duty to give back to them whenever possible. With this being said, we have been able to donate more than $600 to other philanthropies and charity events put on by fellow Greek organizations and campus activities. This is something we take great pride in as we continue to maintain a great presence on and off of campus. We greatly appreciate all of the support given to us by you the alumni throughout the duration of this semester, and plan on carrying our success into the fall 2015 semester. Once again, with the fall semester approaching, also comes our largest philanthropy event of the year, Smokin Hog, which is set for Saturday, October 10. Once more, thank you fellow brothers and have a wonderful summer. VNR Scholarship Report Coming into the semester I was very excited to begin the task of improving our chapters average GPA, and more importantly, helping those on social probation reach the required 2.5 GPA. At the beginning of the spring semester there were thirteen members on social probation and our GPA was 2.87. A couple months later I was pleased to see that the number had dropped to only 8 members at midterm. I look forward to continuing our path of achieving better grades and reaching our overall chapter goal of a 3.0 GPA. Garrett Feik #1153 VNR of Scholarship VNR Membership Development Report As the spring 2015 semester winds down to an end, I am proud to say that the spring of 2015 initiates have done an excellent job learning the history of Alpha Gamma Rho and about the Alpha Tau chapter. I see this semesters initiates as a good sign to what this chapter has to hold in the future. They are all very good men, and I believe that they will help make better men during their time here at Alpha Tau. Joe Keller #1146 VNR of Membership Development. We would like to congratulate all the Spring 2015 graduates, and wish every Brother a safe and happy summer! Crescent Publishing Service This issue of the Alpha Tau Chapter Crescent was published through the Crescent Publishing Service (CPS). Coming in to the spring of 2015 semester our executive-board had some high expectations as we kicked off a new year. We have implemented an incentive point system within the Alpha Tau chapter to reward those brothers who go above and beyond their duties for which they are called upon. Over the course of the semester we have seen a substantial increase in productivity throughout the chapter. We view this as an As the semester comes to an end and people are heading home for the summer we are looking forward to next year. I m hoping to recruit twenty new members this fall to help get our numbers back up. Nathan Dunlap #1137 VNR of Recruitment VNR Management and Operations Report During this semester we have completed many projects to improve the way our house looks. We inserted new light bulbs in the dead sockets inside and outside the house to help with visibility. We purchased a used dryer and had to add a 220 outlet, change the gas lines, and fix our water lines for our new washer we bought. We rebuilt the DJ Booth and made a New Penny Bar. Two holes in the walls were plastered over and repainted. New trim was cut and stained and added to the corners of the walls around the house. Three doors were cut, stained, drilled and added to rooms around the house that had broken doors. Two other doors were fixed without having to be replaced. Numerous urinals, toilets, sinks, and the dishwasher have been unclogged and fixed many times in the semester. The projects for next semester and over the summer consist of a few things. One the outlasting projects in repair more doors. The basement urinal needs fixing still. The house needs to be brought up to code with fire safety before the remodel still.
