What is an Essential Oil? Essential oils are the volatile liquids that are distilled from plants (including their respective parts such as seeds, bark, leaves, stems, roots, flowers, fruit, etc.) Modern Essentials, 6 th Edition. Why doterra? DoTERRA prides itself on producing the purest and potent essential oils. They have set up a test for all oils to determine if the oils are Certified Pure Therapeutic Grade. If an oil is not CPTG, DoTERRA will not sell it.
What is an aroma? An aroma can be pleasant and unpleasant i.e. a bouquet of fresh flowers can be amazing to smell but a carton of rotten eggs can be disgusting. Our sense of smell is most potent. Our minds can remember aromas from childhood, summon memories and take you back in time. Can you think of an aroma that you dislike? Can you think of an aroma that you love? Have you ever wondered why aroma is so powerful?
Nose and the Olfactory System When an odour molecule is inhaled into the nasal cavity, it is first sensed by the olfactory epithelium. Specialized nerve cells extend cilia. Cilia have receptors that bind to a specific type of odour molecule. When an odour molecule binds to the cilia of an olfactory cell, a signal is passed through the cribriform plate and into the olfactory bulb From there the impulses are sent along five different structures of the brain including the limbic system and can have profound physiological and psychological effects. Application Methods Not only are essential oils enjoyed aromatically they can also be applied topically and ingested internally Only every use Certified Pure Therapeutic Grade essential oils. This advice I am giving you today is based on using CPTG oils. It is not for any other essential oils purchased in a health food store etc. The words pure and organic are used a lot in this industry as it is not regulated. Therefore, the claims cannot be substantiated. Only oils that pass rigorous testing are safe to use.
