Specialist In Focus Dr CHAI Ping MBBS, MMed, MRCP, FAMS Senior Consultant Cardiac Department National University Heart Centre, Singapore (NUHCS) Director of Clinical Services, Cardiac Department, NUHCS Email: Ping_Chai@nuhs.edu.sg Dr Chai graduated from the National University of Singapore in 1993. He underwent advanced specialty training at the National University Hospital and was accredited as specialist in cardiology in Singapore in 2002. Following accreditation, he undertook training fellowship in cardiovascular magnetic resonance at the Royal Brompton Hospital, London, United Kingdom. He is currently a Senior Consultant at the Cardiac Department, National University Heart Centre, Singapore, where he is also the Director of Clinical Services. He is the immediate past programme director of the National Healthcare Group s Heart Failure Disease Management Programme. Dr Chai s interests lie in heart failure and non-invasive cardiovascular imaging including cardiovascular magnetic resonance, cardiac computed tomography and echocardiography. He also has special interests in clinical practice improvement and patient safety. Besides his clinical responsibilities and research activities, he is also passionate about teaching and mentoring medical undergraduates, postgraduate trainees and advanced practice nurses.
Happenings @ NUH MRT at NUH's door step! Coming to NUH will be even more convenient when the Circle Line Kent Ridge Station opens on 8 Oct 2011. Commuters can transit at the Buona Vista MRT Interchange and alight two stops after at the Kent Ridge Station, right at the door step of the NUH s Main Building! The NUH Shuttle Bus Service between Dover Station and NUH will cease on 1 Nov 2011.

NUH Doctors Win National Medical Excellence Award 2011 Five of our doctors are among the nine winners of this year's National Medical Excellence Award presented by the Ministry of Health. Prof Lee Tat Leang (Senior Consultant, Anaesthesia) received the National Outstanding Clinician Mentor Award for his distinguished and outstanding contributions as a mentor, teacher and clinician in the development of the field of anaesthesialogy in Singapore. Three doctors from NUHCS - A/Prof Tan Huay Cheem (Chair & Senior Consultant), A/Prof Ronald Lee (Senior Consultant) and Dr Edgar Tay (Consultant), as well as A/Prof Shirley Ooi (Senior Consultant, EMD), were honoured with the National Clinical Excellence Team Award for their outstanding contributions in effective clinical knowledge translation and in the reduction of door-to-balloon (D2B) time for patients with ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction undergoing primary percutaneous coronary intervention in Singapore.
