Beating Bowel Cancer Beating Bowel Cancer is a UK charity which promotes awareness of bowel cancer and provides a broad spectrum of information and support for those affected by the disease. Beating Bowel Cancer is also committed to supporting the medical profession. The charity has a Medical Advisory Board comprising seven members selected by the Trustees and specialists in the field of colorectal cancer. They provide the charity with advice on relevant medical, NHS and regulatory issues, clinical developments and governmental issues. National Colorectal Cancer Nurses Network (NCCNN) Conference Beating Bowel Cancer provides the Secretariat for the NCCNN. All colorectal clinical nurse specialists and specialist screening practitioners in England, Wales and Northern Ireland are welcome to join the NCCNN and membership is free. Members receive regular e letters and invitations to attend the annual conference and other events. As part of Beating Bowel Cancer s support of the NCCNN, the charity organises and funds the annual conference, providing essential education to specialist nurses who, in turn, can provide the best education and support to patients. Servier provided financial support to Beating Bowel Cancer to support the NCCNN annual conference. The conference is a one day meeting open to all colorectal clinical nurse specialists across England, Wales and Northern Ireland. The funding contributed to the costs associated with planning and implementing the meeting and also allowed Beating Bowel Cancer to assist attendees with travel costs in the form of travel bursaries. This funding also covered the cost of a Servier stand at the event. Servier had no involvement in the content of the meeting or the allocation of travel bursaries. Colorectal CNS gives these booklets in a pack to newly diagnosed patients and they are an invaluable source of support and information not only to patients, but their families. These booklets provide a physical contact with the charity, clearly promoting them as a source of support and information immediately at the time of diagnosis. At present the vast majority of information provided to patients by healthcare professionals is in a form of hard copy. It is vital to the continued reach of the charity that these publications are continued. Servier sponsored the printing and publication of these booklets. Consultancy: Beating Bowel Cancer arranged for a suitable patient to make a presentation to Servier employees on their experience of mcrc, covering aspects from their diagnosis, through treatment and the education/support they received at each stage. This ensures that we have a clear understanding of patient needs and the reality of the disease.
