Introduction The course, which is already in its 3rd edition, is a didactic and hands-on workshop that provides a comprehensive overview of advanced diagnostic and therapeutic bronchoscopy as well as pleuroscopy. Our Guest Faculty this year are internationally renowned interventional pulmonologists Professor Kim Hojoong from Samsung Medical Center, Seoul, Korea and Associate Professor Lee Pyng from National University Hospital, Singapore. Participants will gain exposure to endobronchial ultrasound, electromagnetic navigation bronchoscopy, bronchial thermoplasty, rigid bronchoscopy, airway stenting and pleuroscopy. The course s highlight would be the 4 hands-on sessions, during which participants would learn procedural skills via anatomical models, high fidelity electronic simulators, and both dead and live (anesthetized) porcine models. Guest Faculty Prof KIM Hojoong (Korea) Kim Hojoong is Professor of Medicine, Sungkyunkwan University School of Medicine. He previously served as Chief, Division of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine, Samsung Medical Center (SMC), Seoul, Korea. Prof Kim is a member of the Korean Medical Association, Korean Academy of Tuberculosis and Respiratory Diseases, American Thoracic Society, American College of Chest Physicians, International Association for the Study of Lung Cancer, World Association for Bronchology and International Pulmonology, and the Asian-Pacific Association for Bronchology and International Pulmonology. Prof Kim has more than two decades experience in interventional bronchoscopy and performs more than 350 cases of rigid bronchoscopy annually. He has more than 200 peer-reviewed publications, and his clinical research interests include bronchology, lung cancer and pulmonary hypertension. In addition, Prof Kim is actively involved in SMC's hospital management, and his key portfolios are in human research protections and patient safety. He was appointed Congress President of the 5th Asia Pacific Congress in Bronchology that took place in Seoul, Korea in 2013.
Guest Faculty A/Prof LEE Pyng (Singapore) Lee Pyng is Associate Professor, Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, National University of Singapore. She is also Director of Interventional Pulmonology, Division of Respiratory and Critical Care Medicine, National University Hospital. A/Prof Lee obtained her PhD on New Applications of Bronchoscopic Techniques from Vrije University, Amsterdam. Her clinical research interests include lung cancer, pleural disease, obstructive airway disease, and bronchology. She previously served as President of the Singapore Thoracic Society, and currently sits on international scientific committees in the fields of lung cancer and interventional pulmonology. She also serves in the American College of Chest Physicians (ACCP) Networks Steering Committees, and represents Singapore as Global Governor to the College. A/Prof Lee is regularly invited locally and overseas to speaker and instruct in pleuroscopy, bronchoscopy and lung cancer. A/Prof Lee has authored numerous publications in peer-reviewed journals, and a pleuroscopy manual that won the British Medical Association s Best Book Award in Internal Medicine 2011. She received the Young Investigator s Award 2000 for work in asthma, Best Poster Award for research in talc and cancer cells at CHEST 2006, Best Original Investigation and Presentation at CHEST World Congress 2014, and the Geoffrey McLennan Award for advancing the field of interventional pulmonology at CHEST 2014.
