Irish Sign Language (ISL) for Beginners This course is intended for all those who would like to be able to communicate with Deaf people. It teaches the basic signs/sentences needed to deal with greetings, personal identification, colours, numbers, time, place, weather, house and home, common posted signs (i.e. toilets, fire exits, no smoking, etc.), health and welfare services, food and drink, calendar, family, people, shopping, travel. http://www.tcd.ie/slscs/cds/, by request via email: cdsinfo@tcd.ie or by calling (01)8301252. Forms to be returned before Friday, 24 th September 2010. Participants will be divided into two groups; Mondays, 7.30 p.m. 9.00 p.m., beginning on 27 th September 2010 and Wednesdays, 7.30 p.m. 9.00 p.m., beginning on 29 th September 2010 in rooms 4018 and 3081 (Mondays) and room 3027 (Wednesdays), Arts Building, Trinity College, Dublin 2. semesters.

Post-Beginners Course in Irish Sign Language This course is provided for those who have completed the Irish Sign Language course for beginners and wish to extend their proficiency in ISL. http://www.tcd.ie/slscs/cds/,by request via email: cdsinfo@tcd.ie or by calling (018301252). Intermediate Irish Sign Language This course is provided for those who have completed the Postbeginners Irish Sign Language course or another course to equivalent standard. This course will increase the student s ability to communicate effectively with Deaf people using ISL. Specifically, this course will focus on elements of the grammar of ISL such as use of placement, non-manual features, directional verbs and role-shift. An Introduction to Deaf Studies This course is offered with the general public in mind. Anyone who is interested in knowing about the Irish Deaf community, their culture and their language of sign (ISL) are encouraged to attend. A basic understanding of the issues relevant to Deaf people will be introduced with lectures touching on topics such as The Irish Deaf Community and Culture, Mental Health and Deafness, Equality Studies, Deaf Education, Deaf History, Deaf People and the Media, Language Acquisition, Language Processing, ISL Linguistics, Irish Sign Language Teaching, ISL/English Interpreting and Social Policies Relevant to the Deaf Community. Upon completion of this course persons who wish to continue further study in these areas will find themselves better prepared to apply for entrance into the diploma courses on offer at the Centre for Deaf Studies, Trinity College Dublin. http://www.tcd.ie/slscs/cds/, by request via email: cdsinfo@tcd.ie or by calling (01)8301252.
