Students with autism can experience issues in verbal fluency and paying attention. They may lack social cues and differentiated responses and can be unresponsive to questions, tasks, or demands. The implementation of the Right to Education Act (RTE) 2009 has made it imperative for teachers who are educating autistic children to understand the behavioural challenges that the children face in a mainstream classroom setting. It is mandatory for people interested in working with children with Autism to be empowered to understand the strengths of these children in all areas of development. The course will comprise of topics such as: Definition and prevalence Characteristics Evidence-based methods and interventions that will help teachers to understand the condition Provide the needed inputs to work with all the children on the spectrum. Sankalp is an organisation that is dedicated towards the cause of Autism and Learning Disabilities. The institution has experience of running the Learning Centre for two decades with experienced staff. In an MOU with the Department of Counselling Psychology, University of Madras, Sankalp is planning to conduct a three month Certificate course in Autism Spectrum Disorders. The course will be a combination of theory and practical. There will be a written examination at the end of the course. The certificate will be issued by the University of Madras.
