Healthy Active Living Programs, Special Events and New Classes AARP Driver Safety Program Monday & Tuesday, June 29 & 30, 10:00 am-3:00 pm This program is for mature drivers who are interested in improving their driver safety skills and reducing insurance costs. Covers the basics of defensive driving. No testing; two four-hour classroom sessions only. $14/person payable at the class; all materials included. Advance enrollment required. Wellness Classes 10,000 Steps a Day Saturday June 6, 9:00-10:30am This program is designed to increase your daily steps to 10,000 and thus, improve your health. Learn the basics of beginning a walking program, choosing footwear, and walking location suggestions. Each participant will receive a pedometer to log daily steps. Only fee is $10 for the pedometer. This program is also available to take out to groups of 5 or more. Enrollment required. The Steps to Successfully Quitting Smoking Tuesday June 30, 6:00-8:00 pm Join us for a free one session class that covers the basic steps to successfully quitting smoking. Topics will include ways to break the smoking habit, pharmaceutical and nicotine replacement assists, how to prevent weight gain after quitting, and ways to deal with stress during the process. Advance registration required, please. Health Screenings Know Your Numbers Cholesterol Screening Wednesday June 3, 3:00-4:30 pm or Saturday June 20, 8:30-10:00 am This screening event offers a total only cholesterol by fingerstick. No appointment or fasting necessary; just drop in. $6/test Prenatal and Parenting Preparation Classes Traditional Childbirth Preparation Classes Childbirth preparation classes for expectant parents. Five sessions in series that meet either weekday evenings or with some weekend class options. Call early in pregnancy to enroll. No baby care information is included so participants are encouraged to enroll in the separate Babycare class. $40/person or $60/couple. Refresher Childbirth Preparation Class This one session class is for expectant parents who have experienced a previous childbirth, and who wish to meet for individualized instruction to discuss questions related to childbirth preparation and/or sibling adjustment. $20/person or $25/ couple. Babycare Workshop Sundays June 7 & 14, 2:00-4:00 pm This two session class is for expectant or adoptive parents who want information about caring for a newborn. Breastfeeding Your Baby Tuesday June 16, 6:00-9:00 pm This class is designed to facilitate a good beginning and a lasting breastfeeding experience. $15 Fathers/partners are invited to attend at no fee. Meets at LMH Kreider South. Infant Massage Instruction Fridays June 5-19, 10:00-11:00 am Massage can improve an infant s sleep, relieve gas, colic or congestion, and stimulate growth and development. Parents may deepen their communication and attachment with their baby. Three session class. $25. Early Childhood Parenting Made Fun When parents start using the Love and Logic principles early in their children s lives, they up the odds that the teenage years will be fun instead of frantic. This program focuses on parenting skills to use with children from birth to age six. Topics include offering choices, showing empathy and respect, and avoiding parenting by anger, threats, warnings or lectures. $15/parent or caregiver and $20 for two parents from the same family. A certified Arthritis Foundation water exercise class for those with arthritis. Aqua Fit This exercise class is designed for those who may have a decrease in flexibility, strength, endurance, or balance including people recovering from a recent surgery or experiencing a chronic illness. Fit for Life This program assists participants to exercise in a safe, supervised, and non-threatening environment, and on a personalized program to achieve their fitness goals. Uses a variety of aerobic and resistance equipment. Recommended for those with orthopedic conditions, obesity, arthritis, diabetes, etc. Offered at LMH Main campus and LMH South. $35 for 12 sessions. Participants will receive an assessment and then assigned an individualized program to help decrease pain, and regain their strength and independence with daily activities. For the Kids Tyke Hyke Saturdays June 6 & 27, 9:00-10:00 am A free program for prospective big brothers-and sisters-to-be ages 3-6 years, that helps prepare them for the arrival of a new baby. Children must be accompanied by a parent. Class size limited so please enroll well in advance. Safe Sitter Enhanced Friday and Saturday June 26 & 27, 9:00 am-4:00 pm This two day enhanced class teaches kids ages 11-13 years, the skills necessary to become safe and competent babysitters. Topics include how to recognize an emergency, when to seek help, CPR, first aid, preventing accidents, and tips on basic child care. $50/child. Advance enrollment required. Includes all of the information contained in CPR for Family and Friends but also gives a practical test. $30/person.
