My Life My Choice News Goodbye to the MLMC mini bus We sold the minibus at a special price to help another community group Community Transport Oxford. They will lend the minibus to any of their member organisations who need it. 100 Club winners On 1 March we had the 3rd 100 Club Draw. The 100 Club Committee invited Joel, who runs our PPE meetings on a Monday afternoon, to pick out the winners. The winners were Clerence, My Life My Choice Finance Worker, and Andrew Smith, MP for Oxford East. Congratulations Clerence and Andrew! April 2016 Newsletter Page 1

Champion news Speaking up about poor healthcare In December, the Mazars report said that lots of people with learning disabilities died while being looked after by Southern Health NHS Trust. Nobody had checked why they had died. We were angry about this! We think the deaths of people with learning disabilities should be taken as seriously as everyone else s. We also think that Katrina Percy, who is the CEO of Southern Health, should resign. We have been saying this on the news. We also went to a Southern Health Board Meeting in January. In February, Pam and Paul spoke to the National Forum for people with learning disabilities on Skype about what we have been doing. Consulting We have had big meetings with some important organisations to help change how people with learning disabilities are cared for. Pam, Paul, and Dawn went to London for meetings with the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE). And Pam and Paul have been working with Oxfordshire County Council on Transforming Care. April 2016 Newsletter Page 2

Goodbye Philippa! We are sad to say that Philippa, who is the group facilitator for the Abingdon and Henley groups, is leaving My Life My Choice. Andy gave Philippa her present from the Abingdon group. Philippa gave dice to all the group members. My favourite memory of Philippa was the Christmas meal at The Narrows. It was a good laugh! said Kevin. My favourite was when we had the nurse visit the group, said John. My favourite group was when we went to the Fire Station. We learnt that they have a kettle on the side of the Fire Engine so that they can make a cup of tea! said Jeremy. I remember Philippa coming to the Wantage group and she and I having to go and buy some milk, said Steve. Alex will be taking over the Abingdon and Henley groups. April 2016 Newsletter Page 3

Spring to Life Festival On Tuesday 22 March we went to Oxsrad Sports and Leisure Centre in Oxford to take part in the Spring to Life Festival. We did colouring, dancing, had hand massages and learnt about how to be healthy. Colouring is a good thing to do to relax. Here are some people who came to our stall and did a colouring. Dancing is a good thing to do for exercise and to have fun. Here is a picture of everyone who danced with us. Here is a picture of us with Beth and Elise, who visited from the shop LUSH and gave us all a lovely hand massage. They used nice smelling massage oils so our hands smelt really nice all day!
