What s On @ St John s Positive Activities for Over 55s ACTIVITIES PROGRAMME St John s Foundation has developed a range of positive activities designed to exercise body and mind. These are open to residents of Bath and the surrounding area, over the age of 55, who are keen to learn new skills and mix with their peers in a creative, uplifting environment. Many activities take place in The Bubble, the accessible community space at St John s in central Bath. This autumn, a programme of exciting new activities is being launched in community venues across Bath and north east Somerset. Take a look inside What s On @ St John s and see if there is something you, or someone you know, would enjoy coming along to. The Big Social FREE Tuesdays 12 noon to 1.30pm The Bubble Come along for a cuppa and some company every Tuesday in The Bubble @ St John s. This activity brings people together who are over the age of 55 to make new friends and enjoy a social. If you love to bake, why not bring along a cake to share? Refreshments provided. No need to book, just come along. 1

Creative Writing 4 per session Every other Monday 2.00pm to 4.30pm The Bubble A friendly, welcoming class to get you writing, even if you've never tried writing before. Writer and tutor Michael Loveday will bring a variety of activities to spark ideas for you to surprise yourself with short stories, poetry or life writing. Exploring Spices 3 per session Tuesdays from January 30 th 2018 2.30pm to 5.00pm The Bubble Aged 70+? Join this new 8-week cookery course and explore exciting spices from around the world. Cookery teacher and qualified nutritionist Louise Griffin will help you to learn how spices benefit health and turn everyday foods into a delicious new taste sensation. Enjoy eating together at the end of the class. All food and equipment provided. Chair-Based Exercise 3 per session Wednesdays from 3 rd January 2018 10.00am to 11.00am The Bubble Join fitness and health facilitator Hugh Gorton and help to improve your balance, strength and co-ordination. This activity is especially designed for people with issues such as arthritis, joint problems or recovering from illness. 2

Have A Go At Art 3 per session Wednesdays 2.00pm to 4.30pm The Bubble Discover and explore your creative spirit in a place to play, relax and have fun with making art. Basic art materials are provided with lots of ideas and inspiration from experienced facilitator, Jaq Hough. Art For Heart Sake 3 per session Thursdays 10.00am to 12.30pm The Bubble Learn to draw and paint using all types of art media. This activity includes a weekly exploration into art history and is led by professional tutor Pete Savin. All abilities are welcome to this friendly group. Basic art materials provided. To book contact the St John s Community Outreach Team: 01225 485834 Stitchlinks FREE 1 st, 2 nd and 3 rd Thursday of each month 2.00pm to 3.30pm The Bubble A friendly, therapeutic knitting group led by Wellbeing Coach Betsan Corkhill. For anyone who enjoys, or wishes to enjoy, the therapeutic benefits of crafts. Knitting can improve health and wellbeing whether you are fit and well or living with a long term medical condition. Remember to bring along your knitting! No need to book, just come along. 3

Stitch Friday 1 per session Fridays 10.30am to 12.30pm The Bubble A fun and friendly group provided through Bath Mind. Learn to make something special using felts, embroidery, sewing and your imagination! Expert tuition provided for all levels. Materials provided. To book please contact Jackie Parrington: 01225 316367 Artful Stitchers 3 per sesssion Fridays 2.00pm to 4.00pm The Bubble A decorative stitch group for beginners upwards led by expert tutor Jill Perry. Learn to make an embellished picture using creative stitch, colour and a fantastic array of threads, silks and ribbons. Basic materials provided. Bath Macular Support Group FREE The 2 nd Tuesday of the month 10.00am to 12 noon The Bubble A friendly support group for people affected by macular degeneration. Carers and partners are welcome too. Bath Diabetes Support Group FREE Wednesday 21 st Feb, 23 rd May, 5 th Sept, 28 th Nov 2018 6.30pm to 8.45pm The Bubble If you have Type 1 or Type 2 Diabetes, or have recently been diagnosed, come along to this friendly group partners and friends are also welcome. Learn about the new Diabetes services planned for Bath and share experiences. No booking required. Emotionally fragile, anxious or depressed? Come along to socialise and enjoy the café atmosphere, conversation and refreshments. No booking required. New Hope a network of volunteers making a difference in mental health. Learn how to mix colours and practice the skills and techniques needed to paint with acrylics. Create unique pieces of art with tutor Lucy Nicholls. Curo Community Room, Carpenters Lane, Keynsham BS31 1EW Club, Mardon s Close, Midsomer Norton BA3 4NL The Big Social Somer Valley FREE First Monday of the month 10.00am to 12 noon The Big Social is for anyone to come along and enjoy a cuppa and some company. Partnering with the Carers Centre, this activity takes place on the first Monday of every month. Tea, coffee and biscuits are provided as well as the chance to have a go at New Age Kurling a fantastic game suitable for all abilities. No need toboo book, just come along. Learn to Tap Dance 3.50 per session Mondays 2.30pm to 3.30pm Join Lizzie from Little Dancers in this exciting opportunity to learn tap dancing. Dance helps to improve balance, strength and co-ordination.
