1 Committed to your Health and Wellbeing because we care." Stubbington Natural Health Clinic 3 Stubbington Lane Stubbington Fareham PO14 2PP June 2013 Dear Valued Patient Focus on Feet! Introducing our new Verruae Clinic Tuesday Afternoons pm Sian Downing and Camilla Edwards, our podiatrists are starting a Verrucae Clinic here on a Tuesday afternoon. They use a high tech method - Low Level Laser Therapy (LLLT) which, research suggests, stimulates an immune response to defeat the virus (HPV) which causes verrucae. They also use (depending on age) silver nitrate and cryotherapy in conjunction with the LLLT. Each session lasts approximately 15 minutes and it usually tales 4 sessions to eradicate the HPV. The cost is 20 per session.
2 Bunions are often linked to wearing high heels but the risk of developing bunions - bony growths on the big toe - is linked to your family, not your shoes, a US study has shown. The Framingham Foot Study looked at 1,370 adults and found strong family histories of the condition so bunions could all be in your genes. The research supported the view that shoes could worsen the problem - but it was a myth they were completely to blame. The main sign of the condition is the big toe pointing towards the other toes, which forces out the bone attached to it - the first metatarsal. This changes the shape of the foot and can cause swelling, tenderness and pain. Women are known to have a higher incidence of the condition - and this has fed into the idea that high heels or ill-fitting fashionable shoes are to blame. But while these could exacerbate the symptoms - because they might rub the bunion and cause pain or blistering - they do not cause it. If you are would like to book in for the Verrucae Clinic or are worried about bunions give us a call and come and see Sian and Camilla they will be able to help you out. Call to book an appointment. This month s special offers: Podiatry and Chiropody During June we are offering 5 off a New Patient Appointment if you book in on a Tuesday only. Special offer price: 22 (normally 27)
3 Call to book an appointment with Camilla. Remedial Massage If you ve done too much in the garden this month (when the sun actually shone!) book yourself in to get rid of those aches and pains For June we are giving 5 off a 30 minute remedial massage. Special offer price: 25 (normally 30) Dear Doctor As part of our newsletter we bring you a series of questions which have been asked of our Practitioners and their answers which have helped genuine patients. Dear Doctor this month is from our Podiatrist Sian Downing Patient A. An 18 year old student came to see me with a long standing problem affecting his feet. He complained of sweaty, smelly feet with white spots on this heel. Treatment: I did a full investigation of his feet and identified a pitted and white appearance on the heel area of both feet. There was a definite sweaty smell to his feet. These symptoms point to an infection called Pitted Keratolysis. The infection is caused by bacteria of the micrococcus family. The pitting is caused by keratin (a protein which is found in skin, hair and nails) being reabsorbed into the skin itself. The Micrococci bacteria multiply in moist conditions and patients with this complaint often sweat profusely (hyperhidrosis) and may wear footwear which
4 doesn t let the feet breathe. They key was to deal with the hyperhidrosis. Potassium permanganate or neomycin powder applied daily eliminated his problem. For further advice or to book a session with Sian or Camilla contact the Clinic on or ****Competition**** In our last newsletter there was a Dear Doctor about the Alexander Technique. For the chance to win a free Alexander Technique Taster session all you have to do is be the first to the answer to this simple question: Q: What condition was Patient A suffering from, who was mentioned in last month s newsletter? Please include the word June Competition in the message title when sending in your answer. Competition rules The winner will be the first person to the above address with the correct answer. The prize is as detailed above. You will not be able to exchange the prize for another treatment nor will any monetary exchange be offered. The winner must book in for their prize within one month of being notified of being a winner. The competition is not open to those people currently working at Stubbington Natural Health Clinic. We continue to be committed to your health and well-being and look forward to supporting your future health needs. Thank you for choosing Stubbington Natural Health Clinic, your custom is most appreciated, Caroline Herbert Please could you let us know if any of your details have changed e.g. address, home telephone number, mobile telephone number or so that we can update our records.
