7 - 7 - A Letter from Our Founder Dear One, Do you see and feel the need to more effectively help mothers and babies after childbirth? So often, mothers and babies experience colic, worry, blues, depression, infections, pain, intense headaches, severe fatigue, hormone and weight issues, bloating and constipation, fears, separation!, forgetfulness, so much overwhelm. The love sees them through, but there are bodily needs that see the love shining through better also. I personally lost a marriage to the postnatal window. So many - so many have. I began teaching this work because the need is so great, and my teachers no longer offered it. For years, my concern has been how to protect these precious gifts from being lost again. After two decades working as a postpartum in-home doula, speaker, writer and trainer, I know the rare potency of the AyurDoula's wellness care, and I feel the need for working in concert with licensed health care providers, childbirth professionals, and Ayurvedic practitioners. It is also clear that not nearly enough is understood about the specialized needs of the Kayakalpa window after childbirth. It is a life changing time, for mother, baby, and family. It will never be the same again. Whenever a soul comes to join us on the planet it is a time full of love, and challenge. It is VERY timely to serve maternal and newborn health, and deeply rewarding for you as well as your clients. Here s a secret - the delicacy of this time responds particularly quickly to Mother Nature s prescriptions. After looking over our offerings, please accept my invitation to discuss how these might best serve your career vision, challenges and goals. Your next step is to schedule a free 1 hour career consultation with me. Each of us has our own life track and needs if this touches your heart, let's get your questions answered and talk about how we might work together. It truly takes a village to raise a child! With Warmest Regards, Ysha Ma

8 - 8 - Mission and Vision Mission Our mission is to train professionals capable of optimizing mother-baby care in the sacred 6-8 weeks after birth, and before, and afterwards. Sacred Window brings experienced faculty to provide theoretical and hands on learning; depth of knowledge and skill specialties essential for the much neglected postpartum window, and restoring valuable training in pediatric and women's health. Vision We believe a student should gain self care and balance while learning deep Ayurvedic understanding of these forgotten keys, with safe, powerful and gentle skills to support your clients. These courses begin to fill a crucial gap in modern and complementary health care practices, gently and powerfully enriching care effectiveness. Would you like to offer your clients a 1-6 week package of care according the guidance from ancient practice? Mothers have even made marriage proposals to at least 2 of us...they love it, and we love them, with very effective care. The influence of choices and care at this time is so strong, spiritually as well as emotionally, for health in body as well as community, very immediately and for decades. We believe in helping you find or create a learning style that works for you, for your personal career path, for your personal health and self-realization path, and for the economic realities of this time. We are fortunate to be able to use gifts of modern technology to bring many parts of the training into your own home. Effective Ayurvedic and cross cultural modalities strengthen maternal and infant wellbeing, and avoid colic, depression and other common problems for the most effortless, loving and healthy infancy and motherhood. With this enriched care effectiveness, the knowledge given in these courses can fill a crucial gap in modern and complementary health care practices. We live in an inescapable context of connectedness with all of life. Mother and baby care must nourish the big picture to truly be effective, and to nourish the impact of the first weeks of life on the many years to come. The influence is on family, community, economy, health care systems and world peace, in very real ways. Our programs offer depth of knowledge and skill specialties essential for women's health care during the childbearing period and the postpartum Kayakalpa time; enriched care effectiveness, with medically established principles used for thousands of years in cultures which do not suffer the way so may do now. The postpartum time has been called the Black Hole in Healthcare for good reason. Many, with all best intents and significant training, compound the many common physical, emotional, hormonal and mental health problems. Massage schools rarely teach anything for postnatal needs; hospitals and families alike give so much attention to baby, that mothers are often

9 - 9 - ignorant or in denial of their own needs. Mothers are so vulnerable too, after bridging the worlds. The ancient wisdom of many cultures has served these needs; the ancient body of natural medicine called Ayurved - Science of Life for longevity, explains it. Influences in the first 42 days impact maternal and newborn wellbeing for decades to come, and prescribes specific assessment and skills. These dynamics impact women's health care for years after childbirth. Sacred Window Ayurved envisions coordinated trainings amongst those who carry this knowledge, and is actively developing programming to serve your needs in different locations. We are so fortunate to have faculty and advisors who can guide us in a profoundly deepened standard of care for mothers and their little ones. Mothers and babies do best in the early 6-8 weeks with significant in-home care. From practical lifestyle concerns to nurturing the subtler levels of life, appropriate support at this time is tremendous and can last a lifetime. All levels of practitioner care can gain greatly to give: Life changing support for their health Life changing support for their relationships Life changing support for self-realization Life changing support for their lifestyle and diet hands on education Integrating ancient practices with natural and allopathic models Empowerments for bonding and wise mothering, good lactation, and rejuvenation, prevention for colic, mood, hormonal, weight, joint and immune system problems for your clients Nurture a mother's day to day experience and her foundations for naturally healthy mothering and family life. Yours in Health and Harmony, The Sacred Window Team I cooked for a lady at my house and got paid very well! After that she offered me a long term arrangement. I love the way we learned to cook! I feel healthier too. Thank you so much; you have changed my life! - Jill Frink, Herbalist, AyurDoula Intern, Vermont With more than 10 years work in obstetrics and family home health care, I have deep compassion for the postpartum conditions in this country. I am so pleased to be able to support women in the tremendous rejuvenation even a few days of this program provides. - Laurel Rew, RN, Colorado Thank you most of all for sharing such depth and beauty of understanding for this sacred time, and the power of right nourishment for postpartum mothers. - Tovia Safford, Ayurvedic Health Educator, Aromatherapist, Postpartum AyurDoula, Taos

19 Program Prerequisites and Credits Certification Each student also comes with specific background of training and profession. You will find specific requirements for each program on the detail pages for that program. You are asked to document any indicated prerequisite study or classes you have already taken elsewhere to waive those requirements. Becoming a Certified Postpartum AyurDoula (CPAD) requires basic postpartum care training before graduation and Ayurvedic practitioners in the MNAP program are advised similarly. There are some basic maternal and newborn care concerns we will not address in these programs which other organizations do well, offering many locations around the country. Several paths to achieve these basics are available for this requirement such as doula trainings, childbirth educators, midwifery and nursing schools. Students must have sufficient introduction to Ayurvedic, Postnatal Care, or AyurDoula theory for their chosen coursework. For the Bodyworker and AyurDoula, a minimum course requirement is offered under the required curriculum and can be waived if you have taken these courses elsewhere. Each program has different minimums, as listed under that program s detail. Non-Certification Those not concerned about certification should speak with the registrar. Depending upon your angle of entry, your preferred courses and based on your background you may be accepted. Once you have registered for your classes you will receive an orientation packet with pre-course reading assignments and choices. It is important for class flow and unnecessary questions that this is completed. Each class may have specific requirements which will be discussed with you during your free mother and newborn care career consultation. Ayurvedic Prerequisite Resources Many academic institutions, teachers and texts may be available to satisfy your prerequisites. For the APBT we now offer Postnatal Bodywork Ethics (4 hours), and Discovering Ayurvedic Medicine for Bodyworkers, Doulas, Mothers and Others as part of our curriculum. For the CPAD, Discovering Ayurved (15 hours minumum) and Ayurvedic Cooking (15 hours) may be taken through Sacred Window School or elsewhere. The MNAP program is designed for students who have at least 1 year of Ayurvedic study or equivalent including Ayurvedic cooking with culinary herbology, and introduction to common Ayurvedic herbal uses. If you feel short on cooking or herbal skills, we can recommend options for you.

20 A few advanced classes may recommend 2 years studies in Ayurved or 1 year plus license to practice health care. Basic Postpartum Care Training Resources Ayurvedic practitioners new to perinatal care will need to take one of the following type of trainings before graduation. Certification is not required, only documentation of sufficient attendance and requirements. Nurses or other perinatal care practitioners with good experience or knowledge with breastfeeding, baby care, moods, family care basics and resources may submit a letter documenting exemption from this requirement. Very experienced mothers should provide an appropriate reading or other education list as well as personal experience. The following is not an exhaustive list of options. Most of these programs involve 2-3 days in class plus reading and practice client care. Birthing from Within Demetria Clark s doula training Various Midwifery schools offer this course. DONA - Doulas of North America. CAPPA - Childbirth and Postpartum Professional Association Credits - Continuing Education and Ayurvedic Coursework Sacred Window offers academic credits for classes and programs. The National Ayurvedic Medical Association system has honored many of our classes in context of other school programs, and Sacred Window has not yet submitted our independent status or updated programming for their review. NAMA recognizes programs, not individual classes. Massage License boards for each state vary in their requirement; some ask for 4 hours of ethics and 12 hours of massage therapy Continuing Education every 2 years. We offer ethics and massage credits in specific locations. These hours are spoken of as CEU credits same as hours in attendance. Our maternal bodywork offers 25 hours; Ayurvedic infant massage totals 8 hours, and some other classes may qualify you for your board s theory of bodywork, nursing or other practices. We are happy to provide you certificate of attendance and it is up to you to take it to your board for approval for these. Class hours included for credit may count from up to 3 hours of homework or tests for every 12 live hours, or the full 15 hours may be in class.

21 Course Descriptions This section is your resource for course descriptions. Please refer to our online calendar for current dates, hours, locations, whether the course is offered for live distance learning or recording. Costs are in the grid of classes at the back of the catalogue. For a most current calendar view, please look online at the sacredwindow.com website. These comprehensive course offerings were designed to develop practical skills in Ayurvedic methods for caring for the mother and her infant in the hours, days, weeks and months after childbirth. It fills a gap which occurs in both the natural health care communities and modern obstetrics, both of which tend to emphasize pregnancy, labor and delivery. Modern research indicates the impact on the genetic level may last for decades for baby. By nurturing the nurturer (the newly birthed mother) through unique cleansing and rebuilding diets, special external and internal medicated warm oil applications (for both mother and infant), herbs, aromatherapy, education for husband, other relatives and caretakers, gentle yoga and bodywork perspectives, and consulting; most of the complications of the postpartum period can be avoided entirely, and healthy recovery can be speeded. Ayurved observes that care in the first 6-8 weeks after birth impacts mother and baby significantly for decades. Ayurved also serves the broader field of pediatric and women s health very well, and we are honored to be gradually expanding our offerings for this purpose. Prerequisites will be determined with the prospective student interview and career consultation, to accommodate entry from multiple career paths, and honor appropriate scopes of practice depending upon one's chosen program and licensure. All certificate programs include supervised internship.

37 Program Testimonials Ysha, it is a pleasure to learn from you! I am always amazed by the depth and purity of your knowledge. When I was deciding where to study Ayurved I was disappointed by many schools that offer quite watered down Ayurved, for example not addressing food combinations or recommending brown rice because they've bought into the whole modern fiber issue, rather than pure Ayurved. So thank you for that too! - Julia Jones, Correspondence Student, Mother, Ayurvedic Student - Australia Ysha has my highest respect for the important work she is doing in empowering women through childbearing, labor and mothering. This work will also engender a much-needed culture of holistic care for these women. Mainstream health services should take note of what Ysha, her colleagues and her students are doing for our women - there is a lot of knowledge and wisdom there. - Gerald Lopez, Chairman, Natural Health Council (NZ); President, New Zealand Ayurvedic Association, Clinical Ayurvedic Practitioner Thank you so much for your comments, corrections and feedback! I really appreciate your detailed corrections. Being clear and also understanding some of these subtle distinctions are very important as I move forward in this work! - Annette Figueredo, LMT, Florida Ysha Just wanted to tell you again how much I loved the class. I feel like God has opened a path for me to do this. I called my (expectant) daughter this morning and she is excited about it too. - Larchana Behrends, Retired Midwife and Grandmother, Colorado It has been my direct experience that our modern approach to childbirth and postpartum care is enormously stressful for mothers, babies, and families. It leaves lasting physical and emotional imprints that have a profound effect on health and relationships. The training that Sacred Window offers develops practitioners who create a very different birth and postpartum experience which leaves lasting imprints of love, nourishment, and connection instead. - Jacob Griscom, Everyday Ayurved President (Sacred Window partner) I too loved being in class with you, you are a real treasure and joy and your grace has touched my heart very deeply. Thank you again!! Also, the Saturday of our last class I received a phone call from my sister... she is pregnant! I am really looking forward to working with her prenatal and especially postpartum. - Ashlee Sakaishi-Griffiths, CAP, RMT, California I m glad that the NMT and some of the techniques you ve received at Crystal Mountain have been effective for you and those who are fortunate enough to be touched by you. She has fought me on so many other natural cures. - Pauline Dillard, Postpartum Researcher and Counselor I really enjoyed last weekend, Ysha -- the information and the company was great! 39 I feel I'm carrying along your beautiful spirit of collaboration, you have sent such a tradition of this, one that is also to me, very near and dear. I really am so happy to carry along this spirit in your honor! - Amy Thompson, Clinical Ayurvedic and Panchakarma Practitioner, PAD, LMT On a professional note I am eager to introduce these practices into my healing - treatment offerings. It s just what women need, especially here in a cold country. - Jayashree Noel, Ayurvedic Practitioner, Sweden I just want to say (as you know) how much it touches me to have a very active voice in this town for the establishment of community, something that really lacks in this country and what a sense of fullness and richness it ads to life to be a part of a community. I really hope that this (Ayurvedic postpartum work) takes off and spreads across this town. - Mira Murphy, Ayurvedic and Postpartum Chef, Arizona Please, Ysha, know that you have already helped so many people, so graciously, and I know that you will continue to do that. Your books will be a great legacy, as well as the classes that you teach. So please just relax into the truth - which is that you could retire, today, and you will already have done enough. - Vicki Opfer, National Aromatherapy Trainer and Grandma, Colorado It was a really helpful talk. Framing the material as you did was helpful to me. - Beeara, LMT, Birth Doula Nice to hear your postpartum spiel last night. I was taking notes, though I know it's all in the materials. It was review, but good to reset the brain.- Saroj Earl, Yoga Teacher, PAD, LMT, Florida Initial doubts about the time and cost investment went quickly in mind and heart. Ysha's warm and loving style has motivated and encouraged; it has been an honor and pleasure to work under her supervision. She was very patient (I am hearing impaired), and her incredible knowledge of so many subjects made it a fascinating training! The hands-on learning was a big advantage. It has given me a loving day time career, and my husband is very grateful! - Marcia Glick, CD (Birth Doula), PAD, Florida Thank you for all of the guidance, support and respect that you have given me this past year as a student and intern. You have taught me so much and I value all that I have learned from you. - Sonya Bastow, PAD, Colorado We also see immediate improvements with swelling and a shift in a woman's nervous system after just one Ayurvedic warm oil home spa session. I discovered the benefit essential oils have on many of the mothers I have worked with, especially with different types of soreness and anxiety, the turnaround is very profound.
