7 TISTR TISTR Culture Collection Microbiological resources centre (Bangkok MIRCEN) 1976 The TISTR Culture Collection or Bangkok MIRCEN is the one of main service collection in Thailand. It was established in 1976 at Thailand Institute of Scientific and Technological Research (TISTR) with funding support from the Royal Thai Government, UNESCO and UNEP. The aim of establishing a holding center is for agriculturally and industrially useful microbial strains. Since then, the collection has been devoted to collection, preservation, and distribution of microorganisms. Our activities cover the aspects of culture collection work, research relevant to the interest of the collection as well as applied research in the fields of biotechnology, biofertilization, microbial control, environmental pollution and utilization of agricultural wastes and by-products. In its role as microbial resources centre, also provides technical training of personnel.
