Activity of the Research Institute for Biological Safety Problems RSE in the implementation of «Convention on the prohibition of the development, production and stockpiling of bacteriological (biological) and toxin weapons and on their destruction» Astana
Basic lines of activities of the RIBSP Basic engineering of viruses, bacteria and fungi, cellular biotechnology, virology aimed at achieving new scientific knowledge for the development of therapeutic and diagnostic preparations; Development of biosafety, anti-epidemic and anti-epizootic measure schemes and action plans in cases of biological terrorism with the use of especially dangerous infectious diseases; Development and enhancement of technologies for manufacturing prophylactic, diagnostic and therapeutic preparations against infectious diseases of human, animals, birds and plants; 2
Structure of physical protection at the RIBSP: The first line of protection outer perimeter of the Institute territory The second line of protection protection system for Microorganism s collection and rooms The third line of protection access control system for refrigerators The Institute is guarded by special guard department of the MIA RK 3
Integrated safety system the first line of protection 4
Integrated safety system the second line of protection Location of pathogens in one storage Sectional depository of different group pathogens Access system, object and fire alarm in locations of Picar storage Video monitoring and perimeter protection systems 5
Integrated safety system the third line of protection Access system for Dozor freezers Automated temperature control in pathogen storages 6
Electronic catalog of microorganism strains 7
Pathogen accounting and control system used at the RIBSP 8
Providing sanitary and biological safety measures during works with pathogens of especially dangerous infections 9
The first BSL-2+, BSL-3 laboratories in Kazakhstan were constructed and set in operation at the RIBSP 10
Совместные достижения в рамках Программы уменьшения биологических угроз: подготовка специалистов для лаборатории НИИПББ At the base of the RIBSP are conducted trainings for research personnel, engineering-technical service and biosafety specialists Research personnel and biosafety specialists have passed trainings in Almaty and Astana
Международное сотрудничество, гранты - Joining the RIBSP into the World Federation for Culture Collections (WFCC); - Entry the RIBSP into the International Consortium for Supervision of Avian Influenza Spread; - Cooperation with WHO and Center for Disease Control (CDC); - Joint projects with the International Scientific-Technical Center (ISTC) and Civil Research and Development Fond (CRDF); - On the territory of the RIBSP is commissioned BSL-3 with funding from the Agency for Biological Threat Reduction within the framework of joint researches between USA and RK. 12
