The science behind KerraPro A pressure ulcer can occur at the point where the skin is in constant contact with a surface (such as a patient s bed or chair), or with another part of the body (for example where the knees or ankles rest together). The high pressure that builds up can disrupt the flow of blood and oxygen, causing the skin to break down. KerraPro effectively redistributes this pressure, dissipating it over the pad to protect the skin from pressure ulcers. Mass received at simulated bony prominence (g) Mass transferred to simulated bony prominence without KerraPro Mass transferred to simulated bony prominence with KerraPro 1 97% of pressure dissipated Mass applied to simulated bony prominence (g) The clinical efficacy of KerraPro was tested on a female (nursing home patient) with a Waterlow score of 31. KerraPro Heel was placed on the patient s right heel and Aderma Heel placed on the left heel. After 4 weeks, the skin on the right heel using KerraPro showed an underlying improvement in the skin's condition by 41%. This improvement had almost returned the skin to its normal skin condition, compared to only 15% improvement with Aderma. 2 % improvement in underlying skin condition KerraPro v Aderma after 4 weeks % Aderma 41% KerraPro

Order Information KerraPro is available on prescription in 6 shapes & sizes and can be ordered through your pharmacy. Product Pads per box Ref Sacrum/Ankle 1 KPRO40 Heel 2 KPRO30 Sheet 10 x 10 x 0.3cm 5 KPRO10 Sheet 10 x 10 x 1.2cm 5 KPRO20 Strips 30 x 5 x 0.3cm 5 KPRO50 Strips 50 x 2.5 x 0.3cm 5 KPRO60 The health economics There are many clinical and practical reasons to choose KerraPro for your patient, but the financial arguments are equally compelling. The overall cost per annum of treating pressure ulcers has been estimated at between 1.4billion and 2.1billion. In terms of actual patient numbers, every year, around 412,000 people are likely to develop pressure ulcers, 3 with 31% of pressure ulcers classed as EPUAP Grade 3 or 4. 4 These are extremely painful for the patient and difficult to treat. The average cost of treating one Grade 4 ulcer is 10, By helping to prevent pressure ulcers, KerraPro will significantly reduce treatment costs and reduce the pressure on valuable nursing time. Crawford Healthcare is a rapidly-growing international company dedicated to developing innovative treatments and effective dermatological, woundcare and diagnostic products for the care and repair of skin. 3 NEW Protection through prevention

How KerraPro protects NEW KerraPro Pressure Reducing Pads help protect the skin in at-risk patients as part of a pressure ulcer prevention programme. Our shaped pads are made from silicone. Silicone is flexible, hardwearing and has the ability to redistribute pressure to protect the skin on bony prominences such as the heel or sacrum. KerraPro pads are comfortable, yet hardwearing, shown to withstand autoclave temperatures of 121 C without losing their properties. However, we simply recommend that you wash KerraPro with soap and water enabling them to be reused on the same patient and helping to reduce the cost of pressure ulcer prevention even further. Where the skin rests against the bed or other skin, pressure builds. With KerraPro in place, the pressure is absorbed. Up to 97% of the pressure is dissipated. 1

The range KerraPro is available in a range of shapes and thicknesses for a variety of applications. KerraPro should only ever be used on intact or recently healed skin to protect it from pressure ulcers. The superpowers of silicone Silicone is incredibly stable, resists compression extremely well and is odourless, making it the ideal material for KerraPro Pressure Reducing Pads. 10x10cm Sheet 0.3 or 1.2cm thick KerraPro Sheets can be used flat or folded, and easily cut to the required shape and size for a variety of applications: cushion the head and shoulder blades; reduce pressure between knees and ankles; and protect wrists and hands. Shoulder Blades Knees & Ankles Wrists

Heel KerraPro Heel can be used with the silicone shaped pad directly underneath the heel 1 or with the shaped pad at the back of the heel 2. It is also effective in areas such as shoulders, knees and elbows. Heel 1 Heel 2 Elbow Sacrum/Ankle Perfectly shaped to reduce pressure in the sacral area, KerraPro Sacrum/Ankle provides comfort and protection in particularly bony areas such as the shoulders, shoulder blades, hips and ankles. Sacrum Ankle Shoulder 0.3cm thick Strip 50x2.5cm or 30x5cm KerraPro Strips can be cut to the required length to provide protection when using healthcare equipment such as face masks and tubes. Versatile and flexible, they can also be used as hand, finger, wrist, foot, toe and ankle wraps. Head Wrists Hands
