Your information will be processed by each organisation in accordance with their respective privacy policies, found at and respectively. If you require you may access the information we hold about you by writing to GlaxoSmithKline Australia, PO Box 18095, Melbourne, Victoria 8003 or The Privacy Officer, Pretium, Level 14, 3 Spring Street, Sydney NSW 2000.
2 This Active Learning Module (ALM) consists of four components: Component 1: Completion of the Predisposing Activity This questionnaire is designed to assist General Practitioners (GPs) in identifying their learning needs in relation to this ALM. GPs are able to reflect on their current knowledge and understanding of the issues related to asthma inhaler device technique. The predisposing activity questionnaire must be completed and submitted to the Pretium Program Liaison or faxed directly to Pretium. Component 2: Review of the Education Module GPs will be provided with an education module for reading in their own time. This activity uses the content from the Category 2 (1 hour) education module. This module should be reviewed ahead of component 3. Component 3: In Practice Activity GPs will identify at least 10 patients who meet the eligibility criteria i.e. adult asthma patients on a preventer delivered by one of the following devices: Accuhaler, Turbuhaler, Ellipta and MDI. Patients can be included in the program in two ways: 1. When the patient presents at the practice, the GP or practice nurse (PN) can assess their inhaler device technique 2. Identification of patients who meet the eligibility criteria through a database search of the practice software The GP will assess the generated patient list and confirm with the PN which patients to contact Patient recall (by phone or mail) and scheduling patient appointments will be done by the practice staff. Patient Assessment: GPs and PNs will conduct device specific inhaler technique baseline assessment utilising a checklist (adapted from the NAC 2016) Demonstration of the proper device technique will be provided by the GP or practice nurse using the specific placebo device
3 GPs will correct inhaler technique based on the appropriate device checklist GPs will have the opportunity to educate patients on the importance of proper device use and its impact on asthma control Component 4: Reinforcing Activity This questionnaire is designed for GPs to reflect on their experience and to identify what they have learned from participating in the ALM. They will also have the opportunity to identify changes they have made in their practice as a result of their learnings. This active learning module is endorsed by the RACGP QI&CPD Program for 40 Category 1 points for the triennium. Inquiries: ADEPT Program Manager Phone: education@pretium.com.au
4 Introduction This predisposing activity is designed to assess your current knowledge of patient inhaler technique assessment and assist in identifying your personal learning goals for this active learning module. This predisposing activity will take approximately 30 minutes to complete. To complete these questions you will need to draw upon your own clinical experience. These questions must be completed at the start of your involvement in the education activity and prior to reviewing the slide presentation in component 2. This questionnaire will be repeated as the last step of the ALM as a reinforcing activity. Section A - Multiple Choice questions (Please choose the correct response. There may be more than one correct answer).
