1 Emory Autism Center Monarch Program Annual School Inclusion Workshop July 25 & 26, 2013 From Early Childhood to High School & Beyond: Educating Students with ASD Atlanta Marriott Century Center Emory University - Emory Autism Center - Monarch School-Age Program For the first time, this year s annual workshop includes all ages from toddlers, preschool and pre- K, to elementary, middle, and high school students to college students. We will begin our workshop with a keynote speech from one of the world s leading experts in early identification of autism and then head into concurrent sessions that are relevant to daily classroom teachers and staff. This annual workshop not only provides the latest research in ASD but also targets practical and specific teaching tools to take into your classroom. Who should attend? 2 Research News: Keynote Speaker Ami Klin, Ph.D. Bringing science to the community: A new system of healthcare delivery for infants and toddlers with autism spectrum disorders Ami Klin, Ph.D. is a professor and the Chief of Autism and Developmental Disabilities at Emory University s School of Medicine and a Georgia Research Alliance Eminent Scholar at Emory University. He is also the director of the Marcus Autism Center at Children s Healthcare of Atlanta, and the former director of Yale University s Autism program. Dr. Klin s main research focuses on the social aspects of both the mind and brain and developmental aspects of autism throughout one s life. He has co-edited several textbooks including Asperger Syndrome and Autism Spectrum Disorders in Infants and Toddlers (Guilford Press) and Handbook of Autism and Pervasive Developmental Disorders, Third Edition (Wiley), and he has also co-edited several issues of professional journals on autism. FREE PARKING Emory Autism Center Monarch Program The highly successful Monarch School-Age Program, a component of the Emory Autism Center at Emory University, has made it possible for many K-12 students with Autism Spectrum Disorders in Georgia s schools to access increased opportunities for successful inclusion in their neighborhood schools. On-going collaboration with the Monarch Program provides school systems with a network of support from the classroom to school administrators. Training derived from research based, best-practices is a highlight of the Monarch Program. Over the past 22 years, the Monarch program has worked with numerous school districts throughout Georgia, positively impacting hundreds of students with autism and providing teachers with educational opportunities and expanding the knowledge base of this disorder amongst professionals in the school and community. CEU Information: 0.6 CEUs (for one day attendance) are available for a $15 fee, or 1.2 CEUs (for two day attendance) are available for a $25 fee. IACET (International Association for Continuing Education and Training) CEUs are offered for this workshop. Individuals wishing to earn CEUs are advised to check with their certification body, licensure agency, and/or employer to determine if IACET CEUs can be used to satisfy specific requirements. When ASHA asks if you have completed all necessary CEUs, please include all IACET CEUs on your report form. Keep your IAC- ET certificate in case of ASHA audit, as proof of attendance.
