3 Module 3 is divided into two parts: Module 3A: (voiceover powerpoint, 19 minutes) Incorporating a Prevention History into the Medical Interview (applied, for students learning to interview patients) Module 3B: (voiceover powerpoint, 8 minutes) Evidence-based Prevention: Applying the USPSTF Guidelines (background/informational)

4 Module 3A: Objectives: 1. Discuss importance of prevention in terms of health outcome and economic impact 2. Describe strategies for incorporating prevention into healthcare settings 3. Describe essential elements of a preventive history 4. Take a preventive history and develop a prevention plan 5. Identify age-appropriate screening activities 6. Explain the role of the US Preventive Services Task Force

7 Design of the Age-Specific Preventive History Charts Plastic, pocket resource cards for students or clinicians Organized in categories that are clinically relevant for history-taking Age in columns, across top; Prevention topics arranged in rows along left Color-coded for screening (purple), counseling (yellow), and immunization/prophylaxis (blue) prevention activities Shading where appropriate to indicate age subset or lighter color for at risk category Footnotes denote source of each recommendations (source where possible was the USPSTF)
