Health Intelligence Division, Public Health Wales Uned Deallusrwydd a Gwyliadwriaeth Canser Cymru Cyfadran Deallusrwydd Iechyd, Iechyd Cyhoeddus Cymru Tableau user guide for all Official Statistics There are 4 dashboards to view using Tableau; incidence, mortality, survival and incidence by stage. Within each dashboard are a number of tabs at the top of the screen that allow the user to view the statistics from a different perspective e.g. by cancer type, by geography level (Wales, health board, local authority), trends. (The cancer incidence by stage dashboard has additional buttons to make navigation even easier). To get back to the (WCISU) website, click on the home page and the WCISU website link. Incidence/mortality dashboard: Data by cancer type Overview These dashboards examine incidence or mortality of the main cancer types by a chosen geographical area and a chosen time period, for men, women or persons. The table on the left hand side lists the cancer types in order of descending counts, along with the crude rates and the European Age Standardised Rate (EASR) per 100,000 population. The bar chart shows the EASR with 95% confidence intervals and ordered by descending EASR. The bubble chart displays the counts of the 10 most common cancer types in 2015, with the size of the bubble being proportional to the count. Hover over the bubbles for further information, if information is not visible on the screen. How to use Use the dropdown buttons on the right hand side to make your selections. Firstly select which sex you would like, then select the geography level and area and finally the time period and year/s. The results will display on the charts, and the table results will be updated. Hover over the charts and table to bring up further information. Incidence/mortality dashboard: Data by health board Overview These dashboards examine incidence or mortality of a chosen cancer type for the seven health boards in Wales and Wales, by a chosen time period, for either men, women or persons. The table on the left hand side lists the health boards, along with the count, crude rates, EASR per 100,000 and the 95% confidence intervals. The map in the middle shows the EASR for each health board depending on the filter choices. The EASR is then charted in the bar chart on the right hand side, along with the 95% confidence intervals in descending EASR order. The chart at the bottom ranks the health boards from lowest to highest depending on the EASR.

How to use Use the dropdown buttons at the top of the page to make your selections. Firstly select which cancer type you are interested in, then select the sex and finally the time period and year/s. The results will display on the chart, and the table results will be updated. Hover over the chart and table to bring up further information. The user may select a health board from any of the top 3 charts which will then highlight that selection in all of the charts on the dashboard and this selection will stay highlighted when scrolling through the years. Incidence/mortality dashboard: Data by local authority Overview These dashboards examine incidence or mortality of a chosen cancer type for the 22 local authorities in Wales and Wales, by a chosen time period, for either men, women or persons. The table on the left hand side lists the local authorities, along with the count, crude rates, EASR per 100,000 population and 95% confidence intervals. The map in the centre of the page shows the EASR for the each local authority. The EASR is then charted in the bar chart on the right hand side, along with the 95% confidence interval in descending EASR order. The chart at the bottom ranks the local authorities from lowest to highest depending on the EASR. How to use Use the dropdown menus at the top of the page to make your selections. Firstly select which cancer type you would like, then select the sex and finally the time period and year/s. The results will display on the chart, and the table results will be updated. Hover over the chart and table to bring up further information. The user may select a local authority from any of the top 3 charts which will then highlight that selection in all of the charts on the dashboard and this selection will stay highlighted when scrolling through the years. Incidence/mortality dashboard: Trends tables Overview These dashboards examine incidence or mortality of a chosen cancer type, by time period, by a chosen geographical area, for men, women or persons. The table shows the number of cases by five-year age bands. Below this table are the corresponding crude rates, EASR and confidence intervals. How to use Use the dropdown menus at the top of the dashboard to make your selections. Firstly select the time period, then the sex, then the geography level you would like, then select the area and finally the cancer type. (Please note that if a local

authority is selected, then the table will only display the numbers for all ages and not by age band) Incidence/mortality dashboard: Trends chart Overview These dashboards examine incidence or mortality of a chosen cancer type, by time period, for men, women or persons. The geographies can then be selected and are colour coordinated so that they can be compared. The chart shows the EASR of the selected filters as trend lines along the selected time period (e.g. one-year, three-year or five-year). How to use Use the dropdown menus at the top of the dashboard to make your selections. Firstly select the sex, then the cancer type, then the time period you would like, then select the geography level(s) and finally select which areas you would to be displayed (Please note that the more areas selected, the less clear the chart will become). Survival dashboard: Data by cancer type Overview This dashboard examines one year or five year net survival of the main cancer types by diagnosis period, for either men, women or persons. The table on the left hand side of the dashboard lists the cancer types in descending order of relative survival rate (%), along with the upper and lower 95% confidence limits. This information is then displayed in the bar chart on the right hand side of the dashboard in descending relative survival order. How to use Use the dropdown menus at the top of the page to make your selections. Firstly select which sex you would like, and then select the geographical area. Select one or five year net survival and finally the years of diagnosis. The results will display in the chart, and the table results will be updated. Hover over the chart and table to bring up further information. Survival dashboard: Trends Overview This dashboard examines the trends for net survival between 1995 and 2014 for men, women and persons by the chosen method, period and cancer type. The chart shows the trend lines over time and the table below shows the coinciding figures, including upper and lower 95% confidence levels. How to use Use the dropdown menus at the top of the page to make your selections. Firstly select which method you would like. Select one or five year net survival and

finally the cancer type. The results will display in the chart, and the table results will be updated. Hover over the chart and table to bring up further information. Incidence by stage: Bar chart by selected cancer type Overview This dashboard examines incidence by stage at diagnosis for Wales of a chosen cancer type by either sex, age or deprivation, and by a chosen year/period of diagnosis. The bar chart shows the proportion of cases in each stage group for the chosen cancer type and year/period of diagnosis, by either age bands 0-64, and 75+, or for men, women and persons, or for deprivation quintiles 1, 2, 3, 4 or 5. How to use Use the dropdown buttons situated above the bar chart to make your selections. Firstly select the cancer type, then select either sex, age or deprivation, and then select the year/period of diagnosis. The results will display on the chart. Hover over the chart to bring up further information. Please note that for anal, mesothelioma, thyroid & endocrine, testicular, cervical, laryngeal and oral & oropharyngeal cancers, individual years cannot be selected, only the whole period. This is all due to the small number of cases. Incidence by stage: Data by cancer type Overview This dashboard examines incidence by stage at diagnosis of the main cancer types for either men, women or persons by a chosen geographical area, a chosen time period, and if Wales is selected, then a chosen deprivation quintile or a chosen age band. The table on the left hand side lists the cancer types in alphabetical order, along with the proportion of cases diagnosed in each stage group. The stacked bar chart shows visually the proportion of cases in each stage group by cancer type. How to use Use the dropdown buttons situated above the table and bar chart to make your selections. Firstly select which sex you would like, then select the geography level and area, and then select the year/period of diagnosis. If Wales has been selected, you can then select either a deprivation quintile or an age band. The results will display on the chart, and the table results will be updated. Hover over the chart and table to bring up further information. Please note that for anal, mesothelioma, thyroid & endocrine, testicular, cervical, laryngeal and oral & oropharyngeal cancers, individual years cannot be selected, only the whole period. Also, fewer cancer types will be shown if a health board or local authority is selected. This is all due to the small number of cases.

Incidence by stage: Data by health board Overview This dashboard examines incidence by stage at diagnosis for each of the seven health boards in Wales (and for Wales) by a chosen cancer type for either men, women or persons, and by a chosen year/period of diagnosis. The table on the left hand side lists the health boards and Wales in alphabetical order, along with the proportion of cases diagnosed in each stage group. (A red proportion indicates that the proportion is statistically significantly higher than Wales at a 95% confidence level, whereas a blue proportion indicates a statistically significantly lower proportion than Wales.) The stacked bar chart shows visually the proportion of cases in each stage group by the seven health boards and Wales. How to use Use the dropdown buttons situated above the table and bar chart to make your selections. Firstly select a cancer type, then either men, women or persons, and then select the year/period of diagnosis. The results will display on the chart, and the table results will be updated. Hover over the chart and table to bring up further information. Please note that only the following sites can be displayed at health board level: bladder*, bowel (colorectal), colon, female breast, head & neck*, kidney*, lung, melanoma, oesophagus*, pancreas*, prostate and rectum (*only the period can be displayed). Incidence by stage: Data by local authority Overview This dashboard examines incidence by stage at diagnosis for the period for each of the 22 local authorities in Wales (and for Wales) by a chosen cancer type for either men, women or persons. The table on the left hand side lists the local authorities and Wales in geographical order, along with the proportion of cases diagnosed in each stage group. (A red proportion indicates that the proportion is statistically significantly higher than Wales at a 95% confidence level, whereas a blue proportion indicates a statistically significantly lower proportion than Wales.) The stacked bar chart shows visually the proportion of cases in each stage group by the 22 local authorities and Wales. How to use Use the dropdown buttons situated above the table and bar chart to make your selections. Firstly select a cancer type and then either men, women or persons. The results will display on the chart, and the table results will be updated. Hover over the chart and table to bring up further information. Please note that only the following sites can be displayed at local authority level: bowel (colorectal), female breast, lung, melanoma and prostate.

Incidence by stage: Trends data Overview This dashboard examines the incidence trend by stage at diagnosis for Wales, for a chosen cancer type, by either age, sex or deprivation. The area charts show visually the proportion of cases in each stage group by year of diagnosis for either age bands 0-64, and 75+, or for men, women and persons, or for deprivation quintiles 1, 2, 3, 4 or 5. How to use Use the dropdown buttons situated above the area chart to make your selections. Firstly select a cancer type, and then select either age, sex or deprivation. The results will display on the charts. Hover over the charts to bring up further information. Please note that only the following sites can be displayed by either age, sex or deprivation: bladder, bowel (colorectal), colon, female breast, head & neck, kidney, liver, lung, melanoma, oesophagus, ovary, pancreas, prostate, rectum, stomach and uterus. Downloading from the dashboard The button circled below can be used to download a pdf/image of the page in view or to download the selected data behind the charts in view. This button can be found underneath the dashboards at the bottom right of the page. IMPORTANT - We advise users not to download the data for the bar charts as dummy data is used to display the confidence intervals - there are rows of additional data added for these chart types. All other charts contain data that can be downloaded. Downloading as a pdf/image Select the button circled above and then choose pdf or image. This will allow the user to have a downloaded file which is a print screen of the dashboard currently in view. Downloading the selected data for each chart In order to select the data behind each chart, you must first click on the title of the chart (if the option to download cross tab doesn t appear after this then select somewhere inside the chart without highlighting anything). Once this has been done, select the download button (circled above) and then select cross tab (NOT DATA). This will

download as a csv which can be opened in excel and will be in a long file format with the headings of the filters at the top and the selected data below. Trouble shooting 1. If the table and chart disappear once the selections have been made, please check your selections as these are likely to be incompatible. For example, trying to display male figures for cancer of the ovary, trying to display figures for the year 2004 but three year time period selected, health board geography level chosen but area says Wales, trying to display 5 year relative survival figures for the diagnosis period etc If a sex specific cancer is chosen (i.e. ovarian cancer, cancer of the uterus, testicular cancer, cervical cancer and prostate cancer) then there will only be two options available in the dropdown button for sex selection. For example, if prostate cancer is selected, the options of the dropdown button for sex will be men and persons. 3. When using the Tableau dashboards only use the filters and do not use the options within the charts. E.g. Keep only, Exclude, View data.
