1 Weekly Wellness Highlights Supported by the Lincoln County Wellness Committee

2 Eat healthy. Tips for a Safe and Healthy Life Eat a variety of fruits, vegetables, and whole grains every day. Limit foods and drinks high in calories, sugar, salt, fat, and alcohol. Eat a balanced diet to help keep a healthy weight. Be active. Be active for at least 2½ hours a week. Include activities that raise your breathing and heart rates and that strengthen your muscles. Help kids and teens be active for at least 1 hour a day. Include activities that raise their breathing and heart rates and that strengthen their muscles and bones. Physical activity helps to Maintain weight, Reduce high blood pressure, Reduce risk for type 2 diabetes, heart attack, stroke, and several forms of cancer, Reduce arthritis pain and associated disability, Reduce risk for osteoporosis and falls, and Reduce symptoms of depression and anxiety. Protect yourself and your family. Wear helmets, seat belts, sunscreen, and insect repellent. Wash hands to stop the spread of germs. Avoid smoking and breathing other people s, or (second hand), smoke. Build safe and healthy relationships with family and friends. Be ready for emergencies. Make a plan. Be informed. Manage stress. Balance work, home, and play. Get support from family and friends. Stay positive. Take time to relax. Get 7-9 hours of sleep each night. Make sure kids get more, based on their age. Get help or counseling if needed. Get check-ups. Ask your doctor or nurse how you can lower your risk for health problems. Find out what exams, tests, and shots you need and when to get them. See your doctor or nurse for regular check-ups and as often as directed. Get seen if you feel sick, have pain, notice changes, or have problems with medicine.

3 Lincoln County is excited to partner with Charlotte Radiology s Mobile Breast Center to offer digital screening mammograms on-site! Please schedule your mammogram by Monday, January 25 th to guarantee your appointment! Date: Monday, February 8, 2016 Location: Department of Social Services, Lincolnton Hours: 9:00AM-4:00PM You will experience the same quality, compassionate care, expertise and comfortable atmosphere, including digital mammography and female technologists certified in breast imaging! Billing Options If you are covered under the Blue Cross and Blue Shield plan offered by Lincoln County Government, you will receive 100% coverage for one baseline mammogram between the ages of and annual coverage beginning at age 40. This service is available for only COUNTY EMPLOYEES AND SPOUSES THAT ARE COVERED UNDER THE COUNTY INSURANCE PLAN!!! Please call ext for more information. Scheduling Options Charlotte Radiology provides an appointment line ext for mobile breast center scheduling. Or you may fill out this attached document in full and fax or as indicated on the form. Please have your physician s name and insurance information available at the time of your call. Charlotte Radiology provides confidential results to all patients and their primary care physician(s) of choice. It is important to schedule your appointment before the mobile visit. A minimum of 20 women must be scheduled in order for the mobile unit to visit the DSS location. Individuals will be given their choice of appointment time until the schedule is full. Walk-ins will be accepted on a very limited basis on the day of the event. Charlotte Radiology s eligibility guidelines for screening mammography Must be a woman 35 and older. Physician referral not required but must have a physician s name for reporting purposes. Women under 35 with a family history of breast cancer (mother or sister with breast cancer before age 50) are eligible. Physician referral is required. Must be one year since previous mammogram. Must not be pregnant or breast-feeding. No new breast lumps/concerns. Patient should promptly contact their physician for evaluation if experiencing breast problems. How should I prepare for my exam? Please bring your photo id and insurance card (if applicable) to your appointment. If prior mammogram(s) were performed at a facility other than Charlotte Radiology, please bring those films to your appointment or the name and address of the facility where they were performed. On the day of the examination, do not wear talcum powder, deodorant, lotion or perfume under your arms or on your breasts. These substances can cause artifacts on your mammogram making the images harder to interpret. Deodorant will be available to you after your exam. Wear two-piece clothing so that you only have to remove your top and bra for the examination. Please bring any pertinent history to your appointment: prior surgeries, hormone use, family or personal history of breast cancer. Charlotte Radiology and the American Cancer Society recommend annual mammography for women ages 40 and older. 4 Football Season Healthy Snacking Idea: Rosemary Roasted Almonds for the WIN! Yields: 2 cups Ingredients 1 tablespoon finely chopped fresh rosemary 1 tablespoon extra-virgin olive oil 1 teaspoon chili powder 3/4 teaspoon kosher salt Dash of ground red pepper 1 (10-ounce) bag whole almonds (about 2 cups) Directions Preheat oven to 325. Combine all ingredients in a medium bowl; toss to coat. Arrange nut mixture in a single layer on a baking sheet lined with foil. Bake at 325 for 20 minutes or until lightly toasted. Cool to room temperature.
