10 Ultrafiltration HOW DOES IT WORK? Membrane filters available from 3K to 1,000K MW cut-off. Mechanism: Solution of the sample is placed on the membrane. Compounds with MW s above the membrane cut-off cannot pass through. Low MW compounds pass through as filtrate. Resulting sample can be relatively clean. Process can be automated off-line followed by on-line analysis. Advantages Rapid Usually good enough for LC/MS Simple and can be automated continued...
