2 Miscellaneous News Rounds Shot at PGC- Below is a summary for all rounds shot in 2018 (provided by Scott Fahlstrom, our treasurer) Improvements to the Club (Provided by Randal Baker) -New storage shed -Added dry and secure storage onsite -New security fence -Barrier fence and signage to discourage neighbors from wandering onto our property...especially during shooting hours -Removal of the trap field pile of targets and wads -Improved beauty of the property -Repositioned skeet field Improved shot trajectory Leveled the field for proper angles of targets...all stations at the same elevation Positioned the high house and each station in the proper location...regulation skeet field Added distance stakes for proper target speeds Added walkways for safety and the ability to walk on clean dry surfaces -New Canterbury trap target calling system Significantly reduce the frustration of "no targets" Page 2

Quarterly Spotlight Interviews- This quarter, I interviewed Gene Bouley who has been a member of the PGC for the past 20+ consecutive years (Gene was a member before that but took a break).

3 Quarterly Spotlight Interviews- This quarter, I interviewed Gene Bouley who has been a member of the PGC for the past 20+ consecutive years (Gene was a member before that but took a break). I thoroughly enjoyed this interview. I want to share some of these stories with all of you and I hope you enjoy them as much as I did. I wrote a larger spread on Gene then I ve done on other members so apologize if this causes any ill feelings. I didn t have to ask that many questions because Gene told so many great stories at the club! I hope I got most of Gene s story told correctly. My pencil could only write so fast! Q. When did you first shoot here at the PGC? A. Gene told me that in 1958, he came here to the PGC and shot a round of skeet with his relatives that shot here. Prior to that, he had shot skeet in the army. The infantry had division teams there. Q. I thought that was pretty cool that Gene shot skeet in the army so I asked how that came to be. A. While in the army and in Germany, he had his wife (then his girlfriend), send him his bows & arrows. One day, Gene was out and heard a pop, pop, pop sound. He walked out by the airstrip and he saw them shooting (skeet shooting). This guy asked Gene if he wanted to shoot a round and Gene said sure..gene shot a 25 straight! Gene went back to his barracks and his phone was ringing. It was his company commander and he told Gene Get your ass out on that field. Gene told him he had no way of getting out there and his commander told Gene that they were sending a Jeep to pick him up and that s what they did. So, when Gene went out there, he shot with the major (now in uniform). Gene explained to me that the major wasn t in uniform before when he asked Gene to shoot so Gene didn t even know he was a major. The major told Gene that they were going to take him down to the Gunsmith and build the same Model 12 as he shot yesterday (when he shot the perfect 25). Once he got his Model 12, he and the Major ended up being the top on the team. Gene even went on to win all of Europe on the Skeet Team! Q and A. I think I ended up asking Gene what he did in the army (military operational specialty, arms room) because from the stories I learned, he did a lot of sports. Besides skeet shooting, Gene played baseball (wow, is THAT another great story below) and football (he was a fullback and kicker and their team won all of Europe). Page 3

4 Did I mention Boxing? Gene boxed in the army and afterwards too. While he boxed, he said he was never once hit hard enough to see stars! Towns would do fundraising and he would box one time even winning $500. Gene told a group of us at the club that he even boxed against Sugar Ray Robinson one time! Gene said he was like a machine gun. He stayed with him for 3 rounds! Did I mention Baseball? Wow, after high school, Gene was drafted by the Baltimore Orioles! Well, actually the NY Yankees picked him first but then Gene broke his wrist and it had to heal so then the Browns signed him and then they sold Gene to the Orioles. However, he didn t like it because it was all business no fun to it. He played there for 2 years and then he signed up for the draft in March of 56. Q. If you could change one thing about the PGC, what would you change? A. Gene said put it back to the old days. He told me that years ago, the PGC used to have lots more merchandise shooting. He said there was also more availability to shoot. Members could get on and shoot. Other interesting facts about Gene Gene grew up in Hamel -He has been married to his wife, Margie, for 60 years. They have 3 kids, 7 grandkids. Gene told me Margie used to shoot trap. She also bought Gene his first over and under. Gene said in the interview that he never should have left the Model 12 because that s what he won everything with. -He shot his 1 st deer in 1950 or 51 right here on the point of the gunclub.that was another interesting story but I m running out of space! -He likes trap better than skeet. He said skeet is too simple. Gene said that with trap, you have all the angles and don t know what s coming. Page 4

5 Dave Swenson-One of our newer members! Q. How long have you been shooting here and what made you decide to become a member? A. Dave said he s been shooting here at the PGC for 4 years and he said that I (Karinn) talked him into becoming a member. Karinn s note: I had completely forgotten about this until Dave mentioned it! I just remember that Dave was at the club often and he enjoyed shooting yet he had never signed up to be a member. Q. How did you get introduced to shooting? A. Dave told me his father introduced him to it. He hunted with his dad when he was a kid. He walked right out his door to hunt when he got home from school. Dave said he s better with a bow and arrow though then a shotgun. Q. Where did you grow up? A. South of Estes Park, Colorado.in the foothills. He had the national forest right outside his back door. His father worked for IBM and started in Rochester. Then they moved Dave s dad out to Colorado (where Dave grew up) and then they transferred back to Minnesota when Dave was in college. Q. What do you like about the PGC? A. Dave said, All the characters. They make you feel like family. Q. What would be something people would be surprised to learn about you? A. During Dave s sophomore, junior and senior year in high school, he was the No. 1 singles player on the Varsity Tennis Team at Niwot High School, Colorado. It was a larger high school equivalent to a Wayzata or Edina. Other interesting facts about Dave Dave has been married to his wife, Anne, for some odd years (at least 20). -He lives out in Greenfield. -He flies remote control airplanes-r/c. -Dave enjoys fly-fishing down in southeastern MN for trout and anywhere for bass. -He said he plans to shoot even more when his son, Barrett, leaves for college. -Dave told me it s been amazing to see his son grow up here. His wife has been extremely forgiving with Dave and Barrett for shooting so much and being here. Page 5
