4 Objec>ves To establish a database describing Canadians exposure over a seven day period to foods that may serve as vehicles of foodborne infec2on to inform 2mely and effec2ve enteric illness outbreak response To determine sources of enteric illness in Canada, suppor2ng risk assessments and help to target public health interven2ons to prevent illness To inform the burden of foodborne and waterborne illness es2mates in Canada To use consump2on paperns, consumer behaviour, health-related informa2on, and socioeconomic status indicators to inform food safety educa2on ini2a2ves and health promo2on efforts linked to obesity and determinants of health 4
5 Methodology Popula2on-based telephone survey Food and other exposures in 7 day recall period (subset with 3 day recall period) Sample size ~11,000 Sample distributed across:» 12 calendar months» 4 age groups (0 9, 10 19, 20 64, 65+)» All provinces and territories Interviews conducted in English, French and Inuk2tut; on-demand verbal transla2on offered for some other languages 5
