1 REPORTABLE COMMUNICABLE DISEASES IN BC Rev. Jan 2017 STANDARDS All physicians must urgently reprt certain cmmunicable diseases t Public Health by telephne n the day f identificatin (see list belw). Labratry physicians must reprt certain cmmunicable diseases t Public Health nce cnfirmed (see list belw). Reprtable Cmmunicable s in British Clumbia Rutine Reprting The List f Reprtable Cmmunicable s in British Clumbia (attached) is part f the Health Act Cmmunicable Regulatins f B.C. s Public Health Act. Thse listed under Schedule A are reprtable frm all surces (i.e. labratries, physicians, nurse practitiners, midwives, infectin cntrl practitiners etc.) while thse under Schedule B are reprtable nly frm labratries.. Urgent Reprting Sme diseases must be reprted urgently, by telephne n the day f identificatin (list attached). These are diseases fr which timely public health fllw-up, i.e. prvisin f vaccinatin r antibitics, can prevent disease in cntacts r reduce further transmissin. Certain diseases must be reprted at the suspect stage, prir t labratry cnfirmatin, because f their severity and the urgency f public health fllw-up. N list can be exhaustive; if yu encunter a case that yu feel requires urgent public health fllw up, please ntify Infectin Preventin and Cntrl Service (IPACS). Outbreak Reprting Outbreaks f influenza-like illness (2 r mre health care assciated (HCA cases amng patients and/r staff within 1 week); gastrenteritis (3 r mre HCA cases amng patients and/r staff within 4 days) in hspital wards r ther health care facilities shuld als be reprted by phne as sn as identified.
