The purpse f this plicy is t clearly utline fr parents, carers, users and prfessinals wrking internally and externally in this childcare facility, hw Little Angels Schlhuse intends t effectively take steps t prmte and prtect the gd health f children in ur care and the actin that we take when a child r an adult is ill. This plicy stresses that the gd health and well-being f all children in ur care is paramunt. Little Angels Schlhuse addresses bth the shrt and term situatins brught abut by sickness and illness in an pen and psitive way t ensure that best practice is maintained. Terms f reference Health Prtectin Agency: Lcal Health Prtectin Team: HPA HPT 1. Methd Little Angels Schlhuse will ensure that 1.1. All practitiners are aware f current and up t date guidance surrunding all types f illness and cnditins This infrmatin is up t date thrugh clse cntact with the HPA and HPT We wrk in clse partnership with parents and carers t makes sure that infrmatin frm the setting t hme and vice versa is prperly cmmunicatin and shared A cmprehensive list f illnesses and cnditinsalng with any recmmendatins frm the HPA and recmmended child absence perids is clearly displayed fr all visitrs t see All children wh suffer frm any illnesses r cnditins are treated with respect, dignity and equally in accrdance with ut Equal Opprtunity Plicy, Inclusin Plicy and relevant Gvernment guidance. Infectin Cntrl Guidelines Listed belw is a cmprehensive list f illnesses and cnditins, alng with advice length f time, if any, that children must be kept away frm the Schlhuse. This infrmatin has been taken directly frm the HPA website and the riginal text can be fund n the Parent and Carer Infrmatin Bard.
2 Rashes and skin infectins Infectin Cntrl Guidelines fr Little Angels Schlhuse Cnditin Recmmended perid t be kept away frm the Schlhuse Cmments frm HPA Athlete s ft Nne Athlete s ft is nt a serius cnditin. Treatment is recmmended. Chicken Px Whilst t ill t attend and nt less than 5 days after nset f rash. Chickenpx can affect the pregnancy f a wman wh has nt already had the infectin. If expsed early in pregnancy (the first 20 weeks) r very late (the last 3 weeks) the G.P and Midwife shuld be infrmed. A bld test may be carried ut t check immunity. Shingles is caused by the same virus as chicken px virus and therefre anyne wh has nt had chickenpx is ptentially vulnerable t the infectin if they have clse cntact with a case f shingles. Cld-sres Nne Avid cntact with the sres. Cld sres are usually mild and selflimiting German Measles (Rubella) Six days frm nset f rash This illness is preventable by immunisatin This illness is ntifiable Hand, ft and muth Nne Cntact HPU is a large number f children are affected. Cntact Ofsted if this is the case Impetig Until lesins are crusted ver and healed r 48 hurs after cmmencing antibitic treatment Antibitic treatment speeds up what healing prcess and reduces the infectins perid Measles Fur days frm nset f rash This is a ntifiable

Infrm whever is giving ante-natal care as this must be investigated prmptly Shingles Exclude nly if rash is weeping and cannt be cvered Can cause Chickenpx in thse wh are nt immune i.e have nt had Chickenpx. It is spread thrugh clse cntact and tuch. Warts and Verrucae Nne Verrucae shuld be cvered in swimming pls, gyms and changing rms Diarrhea and Vmiting Illnesses Cnditin Recmmended perid t be kept away frm the Schlhuse Cmments frm HPA Diarrhea and/r vmiting 48 hurs frm last episde f diarrhea r vmiting Nne

The Manager r Persn in Charge will make a decisin n when t permit a child back t the Schlhuse n a case by case basis. This guidance may als apply t thse cntacts wh may require micrbilgical clearance. The Manager r Pern in Charge f the setting will take advice frm the HPA. All f the abve must be reprted t Ofsted and the HPT. Exclusin frm swimming is advisable fr tw weeks after the diarrhea is settled. Respiratry Infectins Cnditin Recmmended perid t be kept away frm the Schlhuse Cmments frm HPA Influenza Until recvered Nne Tuberculsis Manager f Persn in Charge f the setting must cntact the HPU This illness must be reprted t Ofsted and t the HPA Whping Cugh Five days frm cmmencing antibitic treatment r 21 days fr nset f illness if n antibitic treatment. This illness must be reprted t Ofsted and t the HPA. Preventable by vaccinatin. After treatment, nn-infectius cugh may cntinue fr may weeks.
5 Cnjunctivitis Nne If an utbreak ccurs, the Manager r Persn in Charge f the Setting shuld cntact the HPA and Ofsted. Diphtheria Exclusin is very imprtant. The Manager r Persn in Charge f the Setting must cntact the HPU fr additinal advice. This is a ntifiable illness and must be reprted t Ofsted and t the HPA. It is preventable by immunisatin and the HPU will cntact all families invlved. Glandular Fever Nne Abut 50% f children acquire the disease by the time that they are five years ld. Many adults cntract the illness withut realising. Head Lice Nne Treatment is nly recmmended in cases where live head lice and definitely been seen. Clse cntacts shuld Hepatitis A Exclusin may be necessary. The Manager r persn in charge f the setting must cnsult with the HPT. Gd persnal and envirnmental hygiene will minimise any pssible danger f spread f Hepatitis. This is a ntifiable cnditin Hepatitis B Only if acutely unwell This is a ntifiable cnditin unless child is a carrier. HIV/AIDS Only if acutely unwell HIV is nt infectius thrugh casual cntact. N reprted cases f spread with a schl r nursery. Gd hygiene will minimise the pssible danger f spread f HIV Meningcccal meningitis/septicaemia Until recvered This is an illness that must be reprted t the HPU and Ofsted but the Manager f persn in charge f the setting. Meningitis C is preventable by vaccinatin. There is n reasn t include
6 siblings r ther clse cntacts f a case. The HPU will advise n any actin needed and identify cntacts wh may require antibitics. Meningitis due t ther bacteria Until recvered This is an illness that must be reprted t the HPU and Ofsted but the Manager f persn in charge f the setting. Hib Meningitis and Pneumcccal Meningitis are preventable by vaccinatin. There is n reasn t exclude siblings r ther clse cntacts f a case. The HPU will advise n any actin needed and identify cntacts that may require antibitics. Meningitis (viral) Until recvered This is a milder illness. This is an illness that must be reprted t the HPU and Ofsted but the Manager f persn in charge f the setting. Hib Meningitis and Pneumcccal Meningitis are preventable by vaccinatin. There is n reasn t exclude siblings r ther clse cntacts f a case. There is n reasn t ffer antibitics t clse cntacts f case. MRSA Nne Gd hygiene, in particular hand washing and envirnmental cleaning are imprtant t minimise the danger f spread. HPU will prvide mre advice.
7 Mumps Five days frm nset f swllen glands. Preventable by vaccine. This is an illness that must be reprted t the HPT and Ofsted by the Manager r persn in charge f the setting. Threadwrms Nne Treatment is recmmended fr child and husehld cntacts. Tnsillitis Nne There are many causes, but bth are viral and d nt need antibitics Tuberculsis On the advice f the HPT This is a ntifiable cnditin Whping Cugh 5 days after start f antibitic treatment r 21 days frm nset f illness if n antibitics were prescribed Actin taken when a child becmes unwell in the Schlhuse 2.1 If yur child develps any symptms f the abve illnesses (excluding sickness and diarrhea, see: 3. Cases f vmiting and diarrhea) the key practitiner r anther member f yur base rm team, will cntact yu t advise yu f their cnditin. 2.2 The Manager r persn in charge f the setting may authrise a telephne call t be made t NHS 111 t seek further advice frm medical prfessinals. This advice is then fllwed and a recrd is made f bth the decisin made and actin taken. This recrd, prepared n an Incident Recrd sheet, is then shared with the parent and carer upn cllectin wh is asked t sign t cnfirm that they have read it. 2.3 The Manager r the persn in charge f the setting will make a decisin, in the best interest f the child and the ther children, as t whether yur child must be cllected. 2.4 Yur child will be made cmfrtable and cnsled by their key practitiner r anther member f staff wh is clse t them until they are picked up. It may be necessary t keep yur child away frm their peers t minimise the risk f infectin being passed t ther children. 2.5 If yu cannt cllect yur child, yu must arrange fr smene else t immediately cllect them.
8 2.6 Yu shuld always seek further medical advice frm yur G.P r an alternative medical prfessinal if yur child is unwell. 3. Cases f vmiting and/r diarrhea 3.1 If yur child vmits then yu are cntacted and asked t immediately cllect them r arrange fr smene else t cllect them. If yur child is sick at hme the previus evening, we ask that yu d nt bring them t the Schlhuse fr 48 hurs frm the last time they are ill. 3.2 If yur child has three episdes f diarrhea f very lse stls in any 24 hur perid, yu will be cntacted and asked t immediately cllect them r arrange fr smene else t cllect them. This means if a child has ne incident f diarrhea in the afternn f ne day, ne at hme and ne the next day at am, fr example, yu will be cntacted and asked t cllect yur child. If yur child has three episdes f diarrhea r very lse stls during the evening after they leave the Schlhuse, we ask that yu d nt bring yur child t the setting fr 48 hurs after the cessatin f symptms. It may be necessary t keep yur child away frm their peers t minimise the risk f infectin being passed t ther children. 3.4 A letter explaining ur plicy will be prvided t any parent r carer whse child has develped diarrhea r has vmited whilst in the setting. 3.4 Yu shuld keep yur child away frm the Schlhuse until their symptms have ceased fr 48 hurs. 3.5 We accept that parents and cares have very busy lives and ften have imprtant prfessinal and/r educatinal cmmitments that mean it is incnvenient t either cllect their child frm the setting r t keep their child at hme, but we ask fr yur understanding and cperatin in rder that we prtect all f ur very special children. 4. Actin taken when a child develps a temperature in the Schlhuse 4.1 Please see Prcedure fllwed when a child develps a temperature attached t this plicy Only ne dse f temperature cntrl r pain relief medicine will be administered in ne Nursery day. Any child wh develps a temperature that is reduced by temperature cntrl medicine and then rises again must be immediately cllect (see 2.5) 4.3. Parents shuld be reminded that administratin f Calpl r Ibuprfen culd mask systems f illness and if a child has a cnsistently high temperature apprpriate medical advice shuld be sught. 5. Cmmunicating utbreaks f illnesses in the Schlhuse
9 5.1 When there is an utbreak f any type f infectius illness, the Manager r persn in charge f the setting will always cmmunicate this infrmatin t parents and carers thrugh a letter that practitiners will ensure all families receive. 5.2 As much infrmatin will be passed t parents and carers abut the illness, ensuring that the child(ren) s identity is withheld and that ur Data Prtectin Plicy is upheld at all times. 6. Medical Cnditins 6.1 Any ther medical cnditin that is nt recrded as being transferable frm persn t persn cntact in an early years setting will nt be cmmunicated t parents and carers. 6.2 Advice n cmmunicating infrmatin abut as stated in 6.1 will be taken frm the HPU and acted upn as necessary. 7.Ntifiable Illnesses 7.1 Certain diseases must be reprted t the HPT and t Ofsted by the Schlhuse. 7.2 This statutry requirement is referred t in the Infectin List abve. 7.3 When this ccurs, the Manager r persn in charge f the setting will take any advice frm this agency and act upn it as necessary.
