1 Immunisation online courses A series of comprehensive online immunisation training courses is now available for free to anyone involved in receipting, administering or managing vaccines in Queensland. The self-paced and interactive courses are easy to use and will help immunisation service providers maintain and enhance their skills in providing immunisation services and to stay abreast with changing vaccination programs and requirements. Certificate and CPD hours The immunisation courses have been developed by immunisation experts from Queensland Health s Immunisation Program and the Cunningham Centre. The Centre is Queensland Health s largest registered training organisation and delivers high-quality education and training across Queensland. 3 Course 1 Vaccine administration Immunisation elearning Self-paced Easy access Free This online course provides a comprehensive overview of the complex and ever changing topic of immunisation for those who receipt, administer or manage vaccines in Queensland. It is the foundation course for subsequent immunisation online courses. You will learn what vaccines are made of and how they work in the immune system, how to prepare and administer vaccines, and how to care for patients post vaccination. The course also explains the National Immunisation Program schedule, the vaccination requirements for special groups and equips you with knowledge to respond to vaccine hesitancy. 4 Who can benefit? This course is of benefit to anyone involved in directly administering or managing vaccines in Queensland, regardless of their levels of skills and knowledge. This includes, for example: immunisation service providers practice staff including practice managers, nurses and admin staff pharmacists School Immunisation Program coordinators Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health workers environmental health officers at councils. Learning objectives Upon completion you will be able to: explain the importance of vaccines understand the immune system, how vaccines work and what components they consist of prepare and administer vaccines document and record vaccination details and report to the Australian Immunisation Register respond to vaccine-hesitant patients understand vaccine development and safety and how to report adverse events following immunisation (AEFI) advise on immunisation during pregnancy and in preterm babies understand the immunisation needs of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders and refugees. 5 Course 2 Vaccine management This online course provides an overview of the importance of correct vaccine management in clinical settings from ordering to receiving vaccines, managing stock, maintaining cold chain and taking immediate actions in a cold chain breach. You will learn about the roles and responsibilities of immunisation service providers in maintaining cold chain and about best practice risk management strategies to protect vaccines from a cold chain breach.
