Cefprozil apollo Cefprozil apollo Cefprozil CAS Number : Molecular Weight : g/mol Molecular Formula : C18H19N3O5S Systematic (IUPAC) : (6R,7R)-7-[(2R)-2-amino-2-(4- hydroxyphenyl)acetamido]-8-oxo-3-(prop-1-en-1-yl)-5- thia-1-azabicyclo[4.2.0]oct-2-ene-2-carboxylic acid Type : small molecule Description : Cefprozil is a cephalosporin antibiotic. It can be used to treat bronchitis, ear infections, skin infections, and other bacterial infections. Categories Anti-Bacterial Agents Cephalosporins

Pharmacology Indication : For the treatment of the following infections (respiratory, skin, soft tissue, UTI, ENT) caused by; S. pneumoniae, H. influenzae, staphylococci, S. pyogenes (group A beta-hemolytic streptococci), E. coli, P. mirabilis, Klebsiella sp, coagulase-negative staph Pharmacodynamics : Cefprozil, a semisynthetic, second-generation cephalosporin, is used to treat otitis media, soft-tissue infections, and respiratory tract infections. Mechanism of action : Cefprozil, like the penicillins, is a beta-lactam antibiotic. By binding to specific penicillin-binding proteins (PBPs) located inside the bacterial cell wall, it inhibits the third and last stage of bacterial cell wall synthesis. Cell lysis is then mediated by bacterial cell wall autolytic enzymes such as autolysins; it is possible that cefprozil interferes with an autolysin inhibitor. Absorption : Oral bioavailability is approximately 95%. Volume of distribution : 0.23 L/kg Protein binding : 36% Metabolism : Cefprozil is eliminated primarily by the kidneys Half life : 1.3 hours Clearance : 3 ml/min/kg [fasting subjects] Toxicity : Single 5000 mg/kg oral doses of cefprozil caused no mortality or signs of toxicity in adult, weaning or neonatal rats, or adult mice. A single oral dose of 3000 mg/kg caused diarrhea and loss of appetite in cynomolgus monkeys, but no mortality.

Affected organisms : Enteric bacteria and other eubacteria Drug Class And Mechanisms Cefprozil is a semi-synthetic (partially man-made), oral antibiotic of the cephalosporin family. The cephalosporin family includes cephalexin (Keflex), cefaclor (Ceclor), cefuroxime (Zinacef),cefpodoxime (Vantin), cefixime (Suprax), and many other injectable antibiotics. Like other cephalosporins, cefprozil stops bacteria from multiplying by preventing bacteria from forming the walls that surround them. The walls are necessary to protect bacteria from their environment and to keep the contents of the bacterial cell together. Bacteria cannot survive without a cell wall. Cefprozil is active against a very wide spectrum of bacteria such as Staphylococcus aureus, Streptococcus pneumoniae, Streptococcus pyogenes (the cause of strep throat), Hemophilus influenzae(the cause of otitis media, middle ear infection), Moraxella catarrhalis, E. coli, Klebsiella, Proteus mirabilis, Salmonella, Shigella, Clostridium perfringens and difficile, and Neisseria gonorrhoeae. The FDA approved Cefprozil in December Dosing Cefprozil is taken once or twice daily, depending on the nature and severity of the infection. The recommended adult dose is mg twice daily for 10 days. Some infections may be treated with 500 mg once daily. Drug Intersactions Probenecid (Benemid) may increase the blood concentration of cefprozil by decreasing excretion of cefprozil by the kidney. This interaction is sometimes used to enhance the effect of cephalosporins.

Combining cefprozil with aminoglycosides (for example, tobramycin) produces additive bacterial killing effects but also may increase the risk of harmful effects to the kidney. Uses Cefprozil is used to treat a wide variety of bacterial infections. This medication is known as a cephalosporin antibiotic. It works by stopping the growth of bacteria.this antibiotic treats only bacterial infections. It will not work for viral infections (e.g., common cold, flu). Unnecessary use or overuse of any antibiotic can lead to its decreased effectiveness. How To Use? Take this medication by mouth usually once or twice daily, or as directed by your doctor. You may take this medicine with food if stomach upset occurs. Dosage is based on your medical condition and response to therapy. In children, the dosage is also based on weight.antibiotics work best when the amount of medicine in your body is kept at a constant level. Therefore, take this drug at evenly spaced intervals.continue to take this medication until the fullprescribed amount is finished, even if symptoms disappear after a few days. Stopping the medication too early may allow bacteria to continue to grow, which may result in a relapse of the infection.inform your doctor if your condition persists or worsens. What are the possible side effects of cefprozil (Cefzil)? Get emergency medical help if you have any of these signs of an allergic reaction: hives; difficulty breathing; swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat.

Call your doctor at once if you have any of these serious side effects: diarrhea that is watery or bloody; fever, chills, body aches, flu symptoms; unusual bleeding; seizure (convulsions); pale or yellowed skin, dark colored urine, fever, confusion or weakness; jaundice (yellowing of the skin or eyes); fever, sore throat, and headache with a severe blistering, peeling, and red skinrash; skin rash, bruising, severe tingling, numbness, pain, muscle weakness; or increased thirst, loss of appetite, swelling, weight gain, feeling short of breath, urinating less than usual or not at all. Less serious side effects may include: nausea, vomiting, stomach pain, mild diarrhea; stiff or tight muscles; dizziness, feeling restless or hyperactive; unusual or unpleasant taste in your mouth; diaper rash in an infant taking liquid cefprozil; mild itching or skin rash; or vaginal itching or discharge. What is the most important information I should know about cefprozil (Cefzil)? Do not take this medication if you are allergic to cefprozil, or to similar antibiotics, such as Ceftin, Keflex, Omnicef, and others. Before taking this medication, tell your doctor or if you are allergic to any drugs (especially penicillins). Also tell your doctor if you have kidney disease or a history of intestinal problems.

Take this medication for the entire length of time prescribed by your doctor. Your symptoms may get better before the infection is completely treated. Cefprozil will not treat a viral infection such as the common cold or flu. Antibiotic medicines can cause diarrhea, which may be a sign of a new infection. If you have diarrhea that is watery or has blood in it, call your doctor. Do not use any medicine to stop the diarrhea unless your doctor has told you to. The cefprozil suspension (liquid) may contain phenylalanine. Talk to your doctor before using this form of cefprozil if you have phenylketonuria (PKU). efprozil is used to treat certain infections caused by bacteria, such as bronchitis and infections of the ears, throat, sinuses, and skin. Cefprozil is in a class of medications called cephalosporin antibiotics. It works by stopping the growth of bacteria. Antibiotics will not work for colds, flu, or other viral infections. How should this medicine be used? Cefprozil comes as a tablet and a suspension (liquid) to take by mouth. It is usually taken every 24 hours (once a day) or every 12 hours (twice a day) for 10 days. To help you remember to take cefprozil, take it around the same time every day. Follow the directions on your prescription label carefully, and ask your doctor or pharmacist to explain any part you do not understand. Take cefprozil exactly as directed. Do not take more or less of it or take it more often than prescribed by your doctor. Shake the liquid well before each use to mix the medication evenly.

The tablets should be swallowed whole and taken with a full glass of water. Take cefprozil until you finish the prescription, even if you feel better. Stopping cefprozil too soon may cause bacteria to become resistant to antibiotics. Other uses for this medicine This medication may be prescribed for other uses; ask your doctor or pharmacist for more information. What special precautions should I follow? Before taking cefprozil, tell your doctor and pharmacist if you are allergic to cefprozil, penicillin, cefaclor (Ceclor), cefadroxil (Duricef), cefamandole (Mandol), cefazolin (Ancef, Kefzol), cefdinir (Omnicef), cefditoren (Spectracef), cefepime (Maxipime), cefixime (Suprax), cefmetazole (Zefazone), cefonicid (Monocid), cefoperazone (Cefobid), cefotaxime (Claforan), cefoxitin (Mefoxin), cefpodoxime (Vantin), ceftazidime (Ceptaz, Fortaz, Tazicef), ceftibuten (Cedax), ceftizoxime (Cefizox), ceftriaxone (Rocephin), cefuroxime (Ceftin, Kefurox, Zinacef), cephalexin (Keflex), cephapirin (Cefadyl), cephradine (Velosef), loracarbef (Lorabid), or any other medications. tell your doctor and pharmacist what prescription and nonprescription medications, vitamins, nutritional supplements, and herbal products you are taking. Be sure to mention any of the following: anticoagulants ('blood thinners') such as warfarin (Coumadin), diuretics ('water pills'), other antibiotics, and probenecid (Benemid). Your doctor may need to change the doses of your medications or monitor you carefully for side effects.

tell your doctor if you have or have ever had kidney disease, phenylketonuria, colitis, or stomach problems. tell your doctor if you are pregnant, plan to become pregnant, or are breast-feeding. If you become pregnant while taking cefprozil, call your doctor. What special dietary instructions should I follow?return to top Unless your doctor tells you otherwise, continue your normal diet. What should I do if I forget a dose? Take the missed dose as soon as you remember it. However, if it is almost time for the next dose, skip the missed dose and continue your regular dosing schedule. Do not take a double dose to make up for a missed one. How do I store and/or throw out this drug? Store tablets at room temperature. Protect tablets from water. Do not store in a bathroom or kitchen. Store liquid (suspension) in a refrigerator. Throw away any part not used after 2 weeks. apollo asia Division APOLLO Pharmaceuticals API Manufacturer INDIA [P] Ltd. asia Division Mr.Vipin Saxena CEO Cellular: Cellular: Direct : FAX : Wireline Purchase HELPDESK:
