8 Historic flooding on Susquehanna River and its tributaries caused enormous mosquito nuisance problems (September 2011) Swatara creek: flood stage is 7, highest recorded level was 17, crested at 27 Bison at Hershey Park: one drowned, other euthanized

10 Flooding Response Set 843 CDC Light traps, mostly along Susquehanna river basin Performed 112 adult mosquito control events Treated 45,000 acres aerially with Dibrom in worst affected area Wilkes-barre (near Scranton) Pre-spray trap counts in Wilkes-barre area dropped from 248/trap to less than 1 per trap after aerial treatment

13 Black Fly Suppression Program Program Goal To reduce adult black fly populations below pest level, using environmentally compatible methods, during the spring through fall recreational season in participating counties across the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. >3,000,000 citizens benefit from program each year
