5 Winter Wellness: Bolster Your Body s Defenses Christine Brinker Basic Immune Function The immune system protects you in three different ways: 1. It creates a barrier that prevents bacteria and viruses from entering your body. 2. If a bacteria or virus does get into the body, the immune system tries to detect and eliminate it before it can make itself at home and reproduce. 3. If the virus or bacteria is able to reproduce and starts causing problems, your immune system is in charge of eliminating it. Did you know Children raised in highly sterile homes have more problems with allergies, asthma, colds & flu their immune systems are weaker? The overuse of antibacterial products causes germs to develop resistance faster than controls can be discovered? Children will receive at least 27 dosages of 14 vaccines, before the age of 2, with up to 6 shots given at a time? (Sources Center for Disease Control, What Your Doctor May Not Tell You about Children s Vaccinations Stephanie Cave,MD and St. Jude s Research Hospital October 2009 study on antibacterial products) 5

6 Did you know There is an obvious link between the epidemic of developmental delays, autoimmune disease and the increasing number of mandatory vaccines given to children? The place with the highest risk for catching an infection is a hospital? (Sources Center for Disease Control, What Your Doctor May Not Tell You about Children s Vaccinations Stephanie Cave, MD and St. Jude s Research Hospital October 2009 study on antibacterial products) Elderberry Facts During a 6 day study, Dr. Madeline Mumcuoglu of the Hadassah Hebrew University found that elderberry disarmed the neuraminidase enzyme, which flu viruses use to penetrate healthy cells. WITHIN 24 HOURS WITHIN 48 HOURS WITHIN 3 DAYS 20 PERCENT 70 PERCENT 90 PERCENT Note: Subjects receiving the placebo required six days to recover. How Elderberry Works Flu viruses are covered by tiny protein spikes, which are used to attach to and then infect a healthy cell. The key active constituents of elderberry literally disarms these spikes (primarily made up of the neuraminidase enzyme), which stops the first step of viral infection! Elderberry has been proven to be resistant to over 8 strains of influenza, which is greater than any antiviral vaccine!! 6

13 VS C Proven Formula VS C was developed by Dr. Wenwei Xie, a traditional Chinese Medical doctor. His formulation is based on centuries old Chinese herbal philosophy Dr. Wenwei Xie, a traditional Chinese medical doctor from Beijing China came to the United States as part of a research project on Chinese remedies for the herpes simplex virus. He formulated this product and tested it in the lab. It reduced viral counts more than 50% with no toxicity! Nutritional Herbology by Mark Pedersen (Warsaw, IN: Wendell W. Whitman Company, 1994). Information provided personally from Dr. Wenwei Xie in the files of Steven H. Horne. VSC VS C Proven Formula The researchers were unable to find any active compounds in the herbs that could be developed into drugs, so the project was abandoned. As a result, he introduced the formula to Nature's Sunshine, who made it commercially available. When looking for a company with which to share his formula, Dr. Xie picked Nature s Sunshine above all the rest. NSP VS C is available in both capsule and liquid form. Nutritional Herbology by Mark Pedersen (Warsaw, IN: Wendell W. Whitman Company, 1994). Information provided personally from Dr. Wenwei Xie in the files of Steven H. Horne.
