Our natural formulas will helps relieve and clear congestion and/or discharge from nasal passages for either bacterial or fungal infections for all ages and sizes. You may find your cat may not be eating very well or has stopped; this is partly due to the reason of loss of smell. A cat must be able to smell their food to eat - even if they are hungry they will not want to eat if they cannot smell their meals. I suggest you put some pink salmon on top of the natural meat diet each time you offer a meal during the day. 1

Cat with Infected Adenoids The two most common problems affecting the tonsils and adenoids are recurrent infections of the nose and throat, and significant enlargement that causes nasal obstruction and/or breathing, swallowing, and sleep problems. Big adenoids can block the nose. This can result in your child breathing only through the mouth and snoring at night. Like humans, cats have tonsils and adenoids. As part of the immune system, they help fight bacteria and viruses. When the adenoids and tonsils of a cat become infected, they swell, causing a variety of health issues. If your cat suffers from infected adenoids, take him to a veterinarian to diagnose and properly treat his condition. Identification - A cat's adenoids consist of two glands, found on the right and left sides of the back of the throat, above the tonsils, which are connected to the adenoids. These glands are the first line of defense against germs that enter the cat's mouth or nasal passages. The adenoids and tonsils are part of the cat's lymphatic system; they react by swelling in response to an infection in the body or if they themselves become infected. Symptoms of swollen adenoids include repeated retching, gagging, vomiting, lethargy, difficulty swallowing and lack of appetite. Diagnosis A veterinarian will diagnose your cat's condition through a complete physical exam and perform blood tests to check for a system wide infection or other underlying medical cause. A thorough examination of the adenoids and a culture will determine what type of bacteria or virus could be causing a local infection. The infection of the adenoids is usually bacteria-based, typically with streptococcus or Escherichia coli. The primary treatment for infected adenoids is administration of antibiotics to kill the bacteria present. Conventional Treatment Considerations Recurrent tonsil and adenoidal infections may necessitate their surgical removal, especially if the swollen adenoids are impairing your cat's breathing. That's a condition more common in brachycephalic breeds such as the Persian. Proper diagnosis of your cat's condition is required to ensure that inflammation of his adenoids is not caused by squamous cell carcinoma; this type of cancer is virulent and may require surgical removal. Holistic Treatment can successful work on resolving infection and inflammation of the adenoids. It can takes months, but each week you will see improvement and wellness. STEAM Therapy Put your cat in shower room on a mate, towel or your cosy dressing gown, several times a day when having showers and run hot water in shower for 5-10 minutes each time. Don't let them get wet at all. 2

Other ACUTE symptoms (that can often include sinus issues) URI go to UPPER RESPIRATORY INFECTION See (AN219) HAMPL Respiratory Viral/bacteria Set of 3 or (AN024) HAMPL Respiratory (bronchitis s) Set of 2. for wheezing or coughing, lung stress and exertion, lethargy, losing weight for lack of appetite etc. LUNG INFECTION If breathing shallow and lethargic and off food then look at also treating for lung infection, as infection can travel down to lungs after awhile, or when a pet has a weak immune system, stressed rescued kittens and cats. AN112) HAMPL Pneumonia set of drops. ASAP. These cavities, located within the skull or bones of the head surrounding the nose, include the: Frontal sinuses over the eyes Maxillary sinuses inside each above the jawbone/cheekbone Ethmoid sinuses just behind the bridge of the nose and between the eyes Sphenoid sinuses behind the ethmoids in the upper region of the nose and behind the eyes Each sinus has an opening into the nose for the free exchange of air and mucus, and each is joined with the nasal passages by a continuous mucous membrane lining. Therefore, anything that causes a swelling in the nose, an infection, an allergic reaction, or an immune reaction can also affect the sinuses. Air trapped within a blocked sinus, along with pus or other secretions may cause pressure on the sinus wall. The result is the sometimes intense pain of a sinus attack. Similarly, when air is prevented from entering a paranasal sinus by a swollen membrane at the opening, a vacuum can be created that also causes pain. 3

What are the symptoms of sinusitis? The location of your sinus pain depends on which sinus is affected. Headache when you wake up in the morning is typical of a sinus problem. Pain when your forehead over the frontal sinuses is touched may indicate that your frontal sinuses are inflamed. Infection in the maxillary sinuses can cause your upper jaw and teeth to ache and your cheeks to become tender to the touch. Since the ethmoid sinuses are near the tear ducts in the corner of the eyes, inflammation of these cavities often causes swelling of the eyelids and tissues around your eyes, and pain between your eyes. Ethmoid inflammation also can cause tenderness when the sides of your nose are touched, a loss of smell, and a stuffy nose. Although the sphenoid sinuses are less frequently affected, infection in this area can cause earaches, neck pain, and deep aching at the top of your head. Most animals with sinusitis, however, have pain or tenderness in several locations, and their symptoms usually do not clearly indicate which sinuses are inflamed. What are some causes of acute sinusitis? Most healthy people and animals harbor bacteria, such as Streptococcus pneumoniae and Haemophilus influenzae, in their upper respiratory tracts with no problems until the body's defenses are weakened or drainage from the sinuses is blocked by a cold or other viral infection, or in many cases from over-prescribed antibiotics. Thus, bacteria that may have been living harmlessly in the nose or throat can multiply and invade your sinuses, causing an acute sinus infection. Sometimes, fungal infections can also cause acute sinusitis. Although fungi are abundant in the environment, they usually are harmless to healthy pets and people, indicating that the body has a natural resistance to them. Fungi, such as Aspergillus, can cause serious illness in pets and people whose immune systems are not functioning properly. Some pets with fungal sinusitis have an allergic-type reaction to the fungi. Chronic inflammation of the nasal passages also can lead to sinusitis. If your pet gets allergic rhinitis or hay fever, they may develop episodes of acute sinusitis. Vasomotor rhinitis, caused by humidity, cold air, alcohol, perfumes, and other environmental conditions, also may be complicated by sinus infections. Acute sinusitis is much more common in some animals and people. For example, sinusitis occurs more often in people who have reduced immune function (such as those with immune deficiency diseases or Feline AIDS or for human HIV infection) and with abnormality of mucus secretion or mucus movement (such as those with cystic fibrosis). Like acute sinusitis, your pet might develop chronic sinusitis if they have an immune deficiency disease or an abnormality in the way mucus moves through and from the respiratory system (e.g., immune deficiency, Feline AIDs infection, and cystic fibrosis) 4

Mycoplasmal Infections chameleon-like microbes may be causing your chronic or autoimmune disorder. Many people and pets suffering from mycoplasma-associated diseases have several of the following symptoms, 3 which may be present all the time or may come and go. Symptoms of: chronic fatigue, depression, joint pain or reduced mobility, including rheumatoid arthritis, headaches, vision problems, or light sensitivity, cognitive problems, muscle spasms or burning muscles, dizziness or balance disturbance, stuttering or difficulty speaking, breathing problems, cardiac problems, or chest pain or pressure, flatulence, bloating, or diarrhea, lack of bladder control, or frequent urination, stomach cramps, nausea, or vomiting, sinus pain or nasal congestion, genital pain, sore throat, tinnitus, or hearing loss, skin rashes, frequent sores or infections, or fungal (yeast) infections, coughing heavily or frequent thick saliva clearing, allergies, chemical sensitivities, or dry or itchy eyes. Mycoplasma pneumonia as well as at least 7 other mycoplasma species have now been linked as a direct cause or significant co-factor to many chronic diseases including, rheumatoid arthritis, alzheimer's, multiple sclerosis, fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue, diabetes, crohn's disease, ALS, nongonoccal urethritis, asthma, lupus, infertility, AIDS and certain cancers and leukemia, just to name a few. Mycoplasma is the smallest free-living disease agent found in humans and animals and is unclassified as either a virus or a bacteria, but possesses characteristics of both. The microbes have no cell walls and were originally thought to be related only to several strains of pneumonia; however, researchers have now identified at least seven mycoplasma species, which may cause or be co-factors in other serious diseases. Due to their size and lack of cell walls, mycoplasma are capable of doing great damage to the body and treatment with antibiotics is generally ineffective. Herbs are able to eliminate mycoplasma and disabling the opportunistic infections. Cats Claw is also modulates the immune response, therefore ideal for auto immune disorders. Felines fungal infection in lung. Merck Veterinary Manual (pps ) says that 40-45% of chronic, feline upper respiratory diseases are caused by Rhino virus, Herpes virus, Calcivirus, Chlamydia or Mycoplasma. In other words, there are diverse causes of cat-lung problems. HERBAL MEDICINE highly recommended is: (Product code AN250) HAMPLS Herbal Congestion ml 5

Aspergillosis in Pets Aspergillosis is an opportunistic fungal infection caused by the Aspergillus, a species of common mold found throughout the environment, including dust, straw, grass clippings, and hay. An opportunistic infection occurs when an organism which does not generally cause disease becomes an infectious agent once it has entered into an animal's body. In the case of Aspergillosis, it becomes an infectious agent when the body's immune system is weakened from some other disease or illness. Symptoms of Nasal Aspergillosis include sneezing, nasal pain, bleeding from the nose, reduced appetite, visibly swollen nose, and long-term nasal discharge from the nostril(s), which may contain mucus, pus and/or blood. In some cases, loss of pigment or tissue on the surface of the skin may also occur. There are two (2) types of Aspergillus infections. 1. The first is the nasal form, where the infection is localized in the nasal passages and front sinuses. It is believed that this develops from direct nasal contact with the fungus. For example, if a cat is outside and around dust and grass clippings, the fungus may enter via the moist lining of the nose. Both types can affect cats, and while no particular breed is more prone than another, Persians show a slightly higher incidence. The most commonly associated symptoms are nasal discharge and noisy breathing during inhaling. 2. The second type of Aspergillus infection is disseminated, (systemic infection) meaning it is more widespread in the body, not only in the nasal area. It is not certain how this form enters the body. Disseminated aspergillosis is most commonly associated with nonspecific signs, such as lethargy, depression, vomiting, and diarrhea. Other symptoms may include protruding eyeballs. Additional Info: Resolving of Aspergillus (Aspergillosis) which is a fungal infection that develops in the nose and sinuses of dogs/ cats (showing symptoms in nasal discharges). Immunocompromised cats such as those infected with FeLV or FIV are especially vulnerable to infections such as cryptococcosis. Infected cats do not pose a risk to humans. Infection is acquired by inhalation of the fungus and not spread from animals or humans. Once inhaled, the organism typically colonises in the upper respiratory tract (usually the nasal passages) 6

Other "fungal infection" often diagnosed as either: Aspergillus infection, Enterobacter Cloacae infection or Nocardiabacterial Infection. which is responsible for bacteremia, endocarditis, osteomyelitis, septic arthritis as well as infections in the skin, respiratory tract (sinus discharge or breathing distress) and urinary tract. Some times there is a notable bad breath from an infection in the nasal passage. We have also added the homeopathic nosode Pasteurella Multocida nosode 12X, 30X, 10M treatment in homeopathic formula HAMPL Sinus 27-1 drops. Example: a number of pets have been tested positive to Pasteurella is a gram negative bacteria. Pasteurella multocida found in the mouths of approximately 75-80% of all cats. Cats with tartar build up and gingival disease have a higher rate of infection than cats with clean teeth. Symptoms are usually a swelling and local infection around the wound, which may lead to an abscess. More serious systemic symptoms can include sinusitis, pneumonia and brain abscess. So we have included (nose) nasal polyps homeopathic remedies like... Calc Carb, Sanguinaria - for nasal polyps, loss of smell, offensive discharge, Teuc Mar - mucous polyps in the nose. Mold exposure? Sickness includes memory loss, headaches, nose bleeds, nausea, diarrhea, bronchitis, sinus infection, asthma type trouble breathing, heavy metal Detox (vaccines) etc Add 1/4 of capsule of Neem powder in meals three times a week with a pinch of activated charcoal as well. Continue for a month. If its too strong do only once a week or very second week. * NEEM POWDER - Sickness includes memory loss, headaches, nose bleeds, nausea, diarrhea, bronchitis, sinus infection, asthma type trouble breathing, heavy metal Detox (vaccines) etc Add 1/4 of capsule of Neem powder (Organic India Neem leaves, flowers capsules in meals three times a week with a pinch of activated charcoal as well. Continue for a month. If its too strong do only once a week or very second week. Fungal Lung Infection? 1. Nasal Aspergillosis or 2. Systemic Aspergillus infections Fungal infection that usually affects the lungs, but can also settle in the ear canal or the sinuses. Note: If your animal or pet has the second type of Aspergillus infection is disseminated, (systemic infection) Also see the HAMPL Systemic Aspergillus 29-2 (B-2) 100ml (1.7oz) herbal medicines. ** If not treated correctly with effective natural medicines, it can end up fatal down the track. 7

What are the symptoms of Cryptococcosis in cats? Common symptoms of cryptococcosis include: Sneezing & snuffling, Raspy breathing, Nasal discharge, Hard nodular skin swellings, most often over the bridge of the nose Skin lesions on the head, Swollen lymph nodes, Lethargy, Loss of appetite. Other symptoms may be present depending on what organ systems are involved... These may include both neurologic abnormalities (seizures, in coordination, behavioral changes) and/or eye disorders (chorioretinitis; inflammation of the choroid and retina of the eye). NOTE: If you cat or dog has been diagnosed with Cryptococcosis nasal fungal infection use this non-drug remedy as well as formula set called: Cryptococcal Fungal Infection (i.e. meningitis brain inflamed) (AN211). CANINES Leishmaniasis parasitic infection Refer to treatment: AN176 HAMPL Leishmaniasis formula (Set of 6) Refer to protection: AN276 HAMPL Leishmaniasis nosode 30ml INFANT AND NEWBORNS If you have an infant, newborn or animal or pet has nasal discharge only then this remedy is fine, if the (AN027-2-a) HAMPL Herbal Sinus formula is not strong enough, try the herbal virus antibiotic called HAMPL Herbal Congestion 250 formula or maybe there is also a fungal infection too in which combining treatment with (fungal infection) HAMPL Fungal ml - combined or separate. Watch out for secondary infection in the lungs (pneumonia) which is a common in infants (fading syndrome) We suggest registered breeders have the Pneumonia Set formulas (AN112) just in case. 9

FELINES If symptoms are not resolved there maybe other types of virus' and infections and your pet may need the homeopathic Upper Respiratory Infection formula * Refer to: HAMPL Upper Respiratory 219 Set of 3 which has a broad spectrum of bacteria nosomucusd mucous dissolving treatments. The bacteria called Klebsiella and Proteus sometimes cause Pneumonia, ear or sinus infections and urinary tract infections, also added this to the formula just in case. PLEASE NOTE A Feline will not eat if they cannot smell their food. Put a pinch of PINK SALMON or chicken Pate paste, on top of their raw meat meals which both have a strong desirable smell. However, once formulas are used, food and health will improve quite dramatically. If for any reason acute symptoms have not changed with 2-3 days, please contact us. NATUROPATHIC SUPPORT for healing * Highly recommend using in conjunction with Liposomal vitamin C Liposomal Vitamin C Pneumonia, chest infection, cold, flu or other infections, use the Liposomal Vitamin C gel (capsules or satchels). It is an amazing form of vitamin c that can find infected mucous tissue organs and cells and resolve it. No other type of vitamin C can do this, as the others go through blood stream and then excess is urinated out. Liposomal Vitamin C (if you have been able to get this type of vitamin C straight away thats good) This amount is good to get you started for fast healing response. Vitamin C is a ~ antibiotic ~ anti-toxin ~ anti-oxidant ~ anti-histamine ~ anti-viral ~ antidepressant Vitamin C is an exciting new vitamin c supplement utilizing Liposomal Encapsulation Technology for maximum Bioavailability. This has a much higher absorption rate with over 90% of the cells being bathed in vitamin C. Experts suggest that liposomal vitamin C is vastly superior to IV vitamin C an expensive but effective procedure that is done quite often in hospitals and alternative health clinics. This combination produces an advanced form of vitamin C which releases slowly over a period of time producing maximum cellular absorption of vitamin C. Clinical trials have showed that this form of vitamin C, being coated with phospholipids allows up to 90% of the vitamin C to be absorbed by cells, due to the fact that the phospholipid coating resembles the body fats within the cell walls. This compares very favorably to about a 20% absorption rate of intravenous vitamin C into cells. The cell membrane blocks much of the vitamin C that is in the bloodstream from getting into the cell. 10

The liposomal membrane is able to fuse with the same material and configuration that resides on cell walls. This results in a lower minimal necessary dosage and saves a tremendous amount of money and stress to the consumer. Will not cause upset stomach or diarrhea (unlike other vitamin C's when having to take high doses). Liposomal Vitamin C is able to produce serum levels of Vitamin C nearly double those thought theoretically possible with any oral form of Vitamin C. Domestic Pets, farm animals.. other small animals GUIDELINE DOSAGE SUGGESTION This is just a guideline or suggestion, please give more if not getting the results within 24 hours improvement. This is the type of VITAMIN C is a gel type consistency. ** Therefore, it is NOT water soluble, it is a type of natural gel (can t dissolve in water at all, so don t expect it to dissolve or fully blend in) ** Its not ideal dosing method that we do for small pets, but it can be done. Before each dose, stir gently in the water, then draw up some of the vitamin C gel with water each time as it needs water to be dispense in so it does not stick to the sides of bowl or glass or other objects. Do the best you can, so just a little stir and when drawing up it with the oral syringe make sure you draw up the gel and water each time. For humans, the full amount of the gel is swallowed whole with one sip the water just suspends it so it does not touch the sides of the glass (so no sticking the cup or glass) Rabbit, Cat - Kitten Toy Dog; Add 1 satchel (or 2 capsules) - of gel.. into 20ml or 30ml of water (and can add a little Cat milk to it) Using a oral syringe, draw up the gel with some water. * give approx. 3ml - 5ml - repeating 3 to 6 times a day. SMALL SIPS. Give small squirts side of mouth, until 3 to 5 ml is taken. Small dog: Adding - 2 satchel (or 3 capsules) - of gel.. into ¼ cup of water (which is approx. 60ml or 4 tablespoons of fluids) Using a oral syringe, draw up the gel with some water. * give approx. 5ml - 10ml - repeating - 3 to 6 times a day. SMALL SIPS. Give small squirts side of mouth, until 5 to 10ml is taken. Med-Large: Adding- 3 satchel (or 4 capsules) - of gel. Into ½ cup of water (which is approx. 8 tablespoons or 120ml of fluids). Using a oral syringe, draw up the gel with some water. * give approx. 10ml - 20ml - repeating - 3 to 10 times a day. SMALL SIPS. Give small squirts side of mouth, until 10 to 20ml is taken. 11

Large Dog or Animal: Adding - 3 satchel (or 4 capsules) - of the gel... into ½ cup of water ( which is approx. 8 tablespoons or 120ml of fluids) Using a oral syringe, draw up the gel with some water. * give approx. 20ml - 30ml repeating - 3 to 10 times a day. SMALL SIPS. Give small squirts side of mouth, until 20ml to 30ml is taken. If you need to do more dosing per day, to initially improve health, this is fine of course, you can not give too much, it will fail however, if not given enough of the Vitamin C to get to all the places it needs to heal the body. IT IS STICKY SUBSTANCE, THIS IS WHY WE TAKE WITH SOME WATER TO DRINK IT DOWN. SO ADD A LITTLE WATER SO PET CAN SWALLOW IT WITHOUT IT BEING TOO THICK AND GLUGGY. Dr Mercola - Liposomal Two capsules = 1,000mg vitamin C (ascorbate acid) LivOn Liposomal - One satchel = 1,000mg vitamin C (sodium ascorbate) Healthium Liposomal - One teaspoon = 1,000mg vitamin C (sodium ascorbate) FURTHER INFORMATION on Liposomal Vitamin C Dr Andrew Saul His personal story of recovery from pneumonia in just 3 hours is remarkable to say the least. Is seen on Utube Interview. When struke down with acute viral pneumonia. As antibiotic drugs can only treat bacterial infections, he new about vitamin C. So he took 2,000mg in a glass of water every 6 mins. He timed it. So he averaged taking 20,000 mg of Liposomal Vitamin C in one hour. Before long he forgot how sick he was. Dr John Gray Says he took Liposomal C to help treat is Parkinson s Disease. He no longer has this. See his Utube story and website. Dr Thomas Levy Says Virtually all disease is caused by oxidized stress of low grade infections. (and commonly starts in the mouth). Using Liposomal Vitamin C and Ozone therapy can eliminate or wipe out all infections. Oxidative-Stress causes all diseases at a molecular level. Dr. Levy has reviewed extensive amounts of literature on vitamin C and says viral pneumonia, diphtheria and other diseases and toxins have all responded well to treatment with vitamin C. You find me a toxin, I ve got the cure, he says 12

Vitamin C recommendations: What the doctors have to say Based on his experience, Dr. Klenner recommended adults take at least 10 grams of ascorbic acid daily and children under 10 years of age take at least 1 gram for each year of life to maintain health. Dr. Levy says sodium ascorbate or ascorbic acid can be used as a cost-effective, well-tolerated form of vitamin C for keeping the gut mostly detoxified. But to achieve near-complete absorption, he suggests vitamin C products utilizing liposomal encapsulation technology as an additional option. In the case of acute infections and toxic states, Dr. Levy recommends intravenous sodium ascorbate, typically at doses of 50 grams or more, over several hours for most individuals. At the same time, he recommends also administering the liposome-encapsulated form of vitamin C orally. In the absence of intravenous sodium ascorbate. Dr. Levy recommends sodium ascorbate or ascorbic acid at levels up to bowel tolerance, and then the liposome-encapsulated form of vitamin C at the rate of several grams hourly. Subsequent dosing should be guided by symptoms and clinical response. References

April 11, by Dr. Thomas Levy Then the flu hit me, as hard as I had ever been hit. I had recently closed my clinic, and I no longer had the availability of the intravenous vitamin C upon which I had relied for so long. So, I took vitamin C powder until the diarrhea was continuous. And then I remembered the liposome vitamin C product. The only thing that stuck in my mind was that I was told it did not have the bowel / diarrhea effect of high doses of regular vitamin C. So, I figured that was going to be the only way to get more vitamin C "on board," which I knew was what I needed. I took about five or six grams (6-7 satchels) of the LivOn liposome product all at once in juice. (if taking Dr.Mercola Capsules Liposomal, it would have been 10 capsules) Within 45 minutes to an hour, I was having a difficult time remembering how sick I had felt, as I was starting to feel so good. My clinical opinion is that one gram of properly-produced and orally-ingested liposomeencapsulated vitamin C is as or more effective than 5 to 10 grams of vitamin C given intravenously, for an acute viral syndrome. When someone is ill, my advice is still to use as many forms of vitamin C as available, and dosed as highly as is feasible. Liposomes predominately get taken up by the lymphatic system in the gut, not the portal circulation. There is no significant "one-pass" liver metabolism that takes place with a quality liposome preparation. On the other hand, the liposomes, especially in the case of those containing vitamin C, rapidly load up the immune cells in the lymphatics of the gut, achieving high intracellular levels of this nutrient. Colloquially speaking, one could say this "supercharges" the immune system cells. The amount of liposome-encapsulated vitamin C that eventually reaches the bloodstream via the thoracic duct is already lessened in amount by this immune cell loading, and what finally reaches the blood quickly gets taken up inside other cells throughout the body. Relative to un-encapsulated, regular vitamin C in the blood, little encapsulated vitamin C gets excreted via the urine. So, a blood level of one versus the other really gives little meaningful information in comparing potential clinical impact, or in comparing how much vitamin C is actually reaching where it needs to go. When a liposome vitamin C "blood level" declines, it means it's leaving the blood and entering cells, not being excreted by the body. 14

Colostrum Powder Canine: highly recommend adding a teaspoon of pure Colostrum powder twice a day to meals. Feline / Toy dog: add 1/4 teaspoon twice a day in meals. Colostrumhealth 100% pure Colostrum Powder Order on-line. Feline - Toy dog: Add a pinch of powder or each into every meal given. Double the amount for larger pets. and Zinc (mineral) Supplement How important is Zinc? Very important..if you cat, kitten, puppy or dog have some or many of the below issues then now is the time to add some Zinc into daily meals. RESPIRATORY - Mouth ulcers, diarrhea, low immunity, chlamydia bacterial infection (internally or eyes), sinus or flu, bronchitis, emaciation, vomiting, debility, poor health in general, retarded growth, and tendencies to have allergies, abscess type sores, or little scabs here and there, slow healing sores and recovery from illness, prostate problems in older canines. ALLERGIES - tendencies to have allergy reactions to foods, grass or other inhalants etc EYES - conjunctivitis or corneal inflammation SKIN - Mange (skin mites), ringworm, unhealthy looking skin, dry skin poor coat, skin sores, skin allergies issues, extra zinc is required until skin is healing and good health has resumed. Then reduce to zinc a couple times a week for a little longer. BACTERIAL INFECTION- e.g. Chlamydia bacterial infection is usually harmless unless you or your pet are Zinc (mineral) deficient. As this infection seems a common occurrences with infant kittens and teenager cats, this would be pointing the fact that this maybe a common deficiency amongst our feline friends. Especially the malnutrition cats and kittens that have had a lot of stress breeders, rescue centers and other life saving pet rescue groups. This mineral helps in fighting off infections and also helps in the production of cells in the body. It boosts the body s immunity and helps to heal wounds and injuries faster. It helps the kitten or puppy to grow. e.g. runt of the litter. E.g. Malnutrition mum and kittens, frequent infections, and appetite and weight loss. 15

Prolonged deficiency then starts to show more serious signs. In the skin, deficiency causes a disruption to normal cell division, and the skin becomes dry and flaky. As it progresses, the skin can become grossly thickened and scaly looking (hyperkeratosis), similar to human psoriasis. Hair growth is also retarded, and eventually hairloss spreads over the body (alopecia). In conjunction with the skin changes, the entire animal s immune system is severely depressed, and secondary bacterial skin infections and pustular dermatoses occur, along with increased susceptibility to all manner of bacterial and viral infections. Poor wound healing is also a notable sign, as is damaged and brittle nails, and thickened and crusty nasal pads and digital pads. Deficiency of zinc during pregnancy and foetal development can lead to severe growth retardation, limb abnormalities, swollen joints, and poor skeletal formation. Brain development is retarded, and learning and cognitive functions are inhibited. Long term deficiency can result in premature ageing, senility (cognitive), vision loss (especially night blindness), and hearing loss. DIET - Diets high in fresh meats should not require additional zinc supplements. Zinc is important because it is heavily involved in enzyme function and protein digestion. Most premium commercial pet foods have zinc added to the ration, however, the damage/loss during heat processing may have very little minerals and vitamin in it. For home prepared diets, additional zinc, in the form of Zinc Picolinate, can safely be added at a rate of 10mg per 25kg bodyweight daily which is below the therapeutic amount for healing. It is important to add Magnesium drops or powder as well, so the Zinc is not an issue we a pet has alot of hidden stored calcium (that is not being absorbed or distributed through the body) this calcium issue happens when we don t get enough of the mineral magnesium. Magnesium helps balance out and absorb calcium deposits. However, cats and kittens who lived in the city and had to survive by eat old contaminated scraps of food with no protein (without protein cats and kittens will not survive or thrive lack of taurine in protein is critical). Taurine deficiencies - Shortness of breath, Loss of appetite, Lethargy, Poor vision- blindness, Rough looking coat, Dental problems, Poor growth. Felines need to eat quality protein (fresh meat) will need to be supplement with minerals. All dry foods aren't because they often rely on plant-based sources to comprise much of the protein in the food. In foods that have primarily plant-based protein sources, a chemically derived taurine supplement. We have found this through experiences, many are deficient in vital minerals to help them grow and stay healthy. If you are a rescue shelter or have a rescued kitty or cat, then look into supplementing your cat or kittens diet, even though they maybe getting a fresh meat diet now, it will help, but they need that extra support with this mineral now. 16

Types of Zinc Supplements There are several types of zinc supplements, some better than others, that can be purchased most anywhere. Some types of zinc supplements include: Zinc sulphate (which can cause stomach irritation), Zinca chelate Amino acid (which may be a little expensive), Zinc gluconate (which is a good type). Some types of zinc that are best absorbed include: zinc citrate capsules, zinc acetate capsules, zinc picolinate capsules, zinc orotate capsules. * We, personally recommend and use the Thorne Research brand- Zinc Piconate 30mg Capsules. DOSAGE - SUGGESTED THERAPEUTIC DOSING Kitten, Teenager, Cat - Open capsule and mix in ¼ of the powder into a kitten s meal twice a day. Or, if, say you are feeding say 4 kittens in the one bowl add 1 full powder of the capsule. Puppy - Add ½ capsules of powder to meals twice a day. Adult dog- Add 1 capsules of powder to meals twice a day There seems to be a pattern I have noticed with rescue groups and kittens, they have symptoms of mineral deficiencies. Zinc deficiency - affects many other hormones, and can be involved in hypothyroidism, diabetes, and dwarfism. Its effect on suppressing the immune system has also been documented to prove that it makes animals more susceptible to developing a large range of degenerative diseases, including cancer. The first, and most easily missed, sign of zinc deficiency is reduced appetite and gradual weight loss. During early post-natal development, the puppy s immature immune system begins forming from bone marrow tissue. These immature immune cells leave the bone marrow and migrate to the Thymus gland, where they are educated to become mature immune cells (called thymic cells or T cells). These T cells are responsible for a significant part of the immune system, and are able to differentiate between normal body cells and foreign cells (i.e bacteria, viruses, fungi, and cancer cells). The T cells are critical to normal immune function (these are the cells destroyed by the HIV virus leading to immune failure). Zinc is essential for the growth and development of the thymus gland, and for the proliferation and education of T cells. 17
