2 Background History of s' SOP Project MOH Accredited Assessor review 2009:- Accredit Assessors or services? SUMMARY OF FEEDBACK ON PROPOSED EMS ACCREDITATION PROJECT DOCUMENT (4/6/09) Rob Gill, the Workforce Development Manager within the Ministry of Health, noted the following statements for the DSS Workforce Action Plan that are relevant to and should be reference within the framework: Objective 2.2 Increase the supply of skilled and experienced specialists to provide support to both users and providers of disability support services (by December 2014) Proposed action Review competencies and training of accredited assessors for Equipment and Modification Services (EMS)

3 Background History of s Project Audiometry Project Assessment and Recommendation for Hearing Aids (MOH Notice distributed to NZAS and ANZAI memberships June 2010.) recommendations included: Recognising suitably qualified audiometrists who work under supervision from an experienced audiologist (who is an NZAS member) to submit subsidy applications for Ministry of Health funding Requesting that the New Zealand Audiological Society (NZAS) widen their membership and strengthen the role of audiologists in providing supervision to audiometrists. Strengthening quality systems (No MOH Initiative. NZAS Qualmark 2012,2013, 2015 rejected) Considering opportunities for New Zealand based training for audiometrists

4 Background History of s Project Audiometry Project Assessment and Recommendation for Hearing Aids (MOH Notice distributed to NZAS and ANZAI memberships June 2010.) Progress towards implementing recommendations: Requesting that the New Zealand Audiological Society (NZAS) widen their membership New Membership categories created 2012 NZAS Conference and strengthen the role of audiologists in providing supervision to audiometrists. Supervision standards drafted and training provided (also still in process) Strengthening quality systems (No MOH Initiative. NZAS Qualmark 2012,2013, 2015 rejected) Considering opportunities for New Zealand based training for audiometrists. (?)

5 Background History of s Project Determining suitable qualifications completed prior to 2012 Establishing supervision requirements and Scopes of Practice Phase 1 (agreement in principal-scopes, membership, definitions of s, senior, student and draft Scopes of Practice s version of 10 June 2010 (Blenheim) Phase 2 Revised scopes presented at conference Hamilton Phase 3 Project reactivated. NZAS ANZAI and MOH Workforce, Scopes and supervision reviewed, pathways, grandfathering reviewed and revised. (since 2013) Phase 4 present revised scopes etc, obtain feedback, consider feedback, revise as required. (2015) Phase 5 vote on these SOPs (including pathway, supervision). May/June

6 Membership Vote Outcome Based on the Membership Vote the Executive Council has now adopted these documents and they will soon be placed on the website. We now anticipate receiving Applications for Provisional Members.

8 Bridging Course Will likely be run as a distance Course run by the University of Auckland. Based on covering the gaps in knowledge and practical experience previously identified in the assessment of the TAFE and RHAD qualifications relative to the NZAS Scope of practice competencies. Titles: Screening Audiometry New Zealand law and ethics Referral Pathways and funding Deaf Culture Communication Epidemiology of tinnitus and hearing loss in New Zealand Basic and Advanced Audiological Assessment Hearing Aid Verification The course will include an online assessment component to allow for consolidation of knowledge

9 OSCE The clinical practicum examination uses an Objective Structured Clinical Examination (OSCE) format. The OSCE is a half-day exam that takes place after the candidate has completed all other CCC requirements. The OSCE will consist of the candidate proceeding through a series of stations that will separately examine aspects of adult audiological test procedures and case management. The stations may have real or simulated patients. The four stations are:- Adult Diagnostic Assessment Adult Hearing Aid Fitting Adult Needs Assessment Complex Case Referral
