The doctor tells the mom that he has failed the hearing test, thus labeling the child as a failure. As this child grows up, he sees encouragement in many sources, but always struggles with the idea that he can be what he wants to be. These sources are: a super hero in a movie played by Rachel, a basketball coach in Elementary school played by Milane, and a college advisor, played by Krystalle. Eventually, This child becomes a doctor, and is able to triumphantly tell another set of parents that their child is Deaf. Notes and Guide: The actors who play the elementary school boy and college age boy/doctor were Deaf. The signing is not a verbatim English translation, Sign Language Poetry is used. Rachel s parts will be written in blue, Milane s in purple, and Krystalle s in green. Things signed by all of us will be in dark grey. The guide will begin on the following page

We interpreted the line don t wait for luck to mean that you shouldn t just sit around waiting for good things to happen to you. You should go out and get them yourself, hence the sign choice THINK FOR YOURSELF This sign is showing the concept of the Deaf Hall of Fame. Images of famous Deaf people are shown in vignette. Cut to a scene of the young boy watching the TV. We wanted to show that, for Deaf people, they would be known first within the Deaf community, which is

This sign choice shows that the boy has motivation to achieve great things, but that motivation and drive are very small and weak. Another scene of the boy watching TV After Deaf people know his name, it will start to spread to the hearing world as well. YOU SUCCESSFUL SAME Indicating that the boy will be just as successful as the Deaf people in the hall of fame. CONTINUE SUFFER-SUFFER WALK BULLY SMILE Handshape rhyme is used. Signs CONTINUE, We wanted to echo the athletic lyrics of this verse, so we had

6 through hell with a smile SUFFER, SUPERMAN, and WIN share a very similar handshape. We wanted to show a progression in the move, from knowing a name in the back of your head, to being able to recognize the person that goes along with that name. The boy is excited about his achievement. Again, we were trying to show a progression throughout the song, the flame of the boy s motivation to accomplish his goals is

The verse is being sung, while be a champion is repeated behind it. Instrumental Outro A hearing couple is in a doctor s office, the doctor is Deaf and he triumphantly tells them that their baby is also Deaf. They react to this statement happily.
