3 1. School Facility and Services Location, Building Access and Hours: o Alfred Philips Building, 909 S. Boston, Tulsa OK 74119, enter building at 9 th and Cincinnati (SW corner, take elevator to 3 rd floor, MP304 o Daniele Dennison/Carolyn Crabtree Clinic Support o , Cell Debbie Batson, Program Director/facilitator o Alfred Philips Building Hours (Monday Wednesday) 6:15-10 (Sunday call security if doors are locked) Parking: o Candidates and patients may park in any parking lot with BLUE LINES marking the spaces around the building (all Blue lined lots belong to TCC) Security and Emergency Services: o TCC Security call , if emergency call 911 ATM Machine: o ATM is on the 2 nd floor of the Alfred Philips building hallway South of the elevators Food Services Onsite: o MC Café on the 2 nd floor (7:30 am to 5:30 pm Monday thru Thursday. Friday 7:30 am to 1:30 pm) *Note- sometimes they close during intersession o Vending machines on 2 nd floor o Snacks and drinks in bookstore 2. Preparing for the Hygiene Exam Patient Screening: o Facility will not be available for screening Radiographs: o Clinic uses Nomad Pro handheld x-ray unit o Images are digital but may be printed o No charge Administration of Local Anesthetic: A. Practitioner(s) from the school is NOT AVAILABLE to administer local anesthesia to Candidate Patients. There are no exceptions to this policy. Equipment, Instruments and Expendable Dental Materials: Refer to the respective WREB Candidate Guide for a list of materials and armamentarium that the Candidate must provide. A. Handpiece and Prophy Angle Hookups: o Candidates must bring their own handpieces Tulsa Comm. College Page 3 of 9

4 o Standard/Universal hookups B. Sonic/Ultrasonic Devices: o Standard quick disconnect air water hookups for sonic/ultrasonic devices o No sonic/ultrasonic devices will be provided by facility C. Air/Water Syringe Tips: o Disposable tips are provided D. Blood Pressure Cuffs and Stethoscopes: o No Blood Pressure Cuffs and Stethoscopes provided, only a few are available for emergencies E. Expendable Materials: Expendable dental materials supplied by the school are noted in Appendix A. Sterilization Services: o Sterilization Services will be available at he clinic from 8:00 am to - 6:00 pm Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday 3. During the Clinical Exam: o Workstation is Hygiene Proma A series o Chairs are Royal Infection Control (Surface Asepsis): Using paper towels dampened with water clean the following surfaces: (place paper towels under running water in sink to dampen, be sure paper towels are wet enough but not dripping with water) o all areas of cabinetry (including sides, tops, back, drawer handles, etc.) o all vinyl on clinician chair o all vinyl on assistant chair o all vinyl on patient chair (including plastic cover for foot area) o If vinyl needs to be spot cleaned for a hard to clean stain then a premixed solution of Ivory soap and water in a spray bottle may be used. After cleaning with the solution, the soap film must be wiped off with water. If Ivory soap and water does not remove the stain alert the Academic Support Technician. Retrieve Birex disinfectant wipes from unit cabinet then clean the following surfaces, throwing away often: o light handles, switch, and arm (do not wipe light shield it will cloud the plastic) o bracket tray, including arm o air/water syringe, handpiece connectors, suction connectors, holders, and hoses o countertops o sink rim, soap pump and faucet handle o clinician s and assistant s chair levers Tulsa Comm. 5 o o o outside of personal storage container, if using separate container cord box at the foot of the patient chair any other surfaces that need cleaned Repeat the above Birex cleaning step to disinfect all surfaces listed above. Allow treated surfaces to soak for 10/3/2 minutes (time per manufacturer s directions) to achieve disinfection before placing supplies for unit set-up. Retrieve two fresh Birex disinfectant wipes o Wipe Birex container and place back in unit cabinet o Wipe heavy-duty nitrile gloves, remove and place under unit sink Place foil barriers on: o patient mirror handle o computer mouse o clinician (1) and assistant (1) chairs levers Place cover-all barrier on dental light switch Place air/water syringe tip, saliva ejector and HVE. Place plastic barriers on: o patient headrest (trash bag: fold ends of bag over at the top backside of headrest and secure with tape) o clinician chair (trash bag: tie behind chair) o assistant chair (trash bag: tie around arm) o bracket tray and controls (trash bag) o air/water syringe (tube) and tape to plastic syringe tip o suction hoses (tube) and tape to saliva ejector and HVE tip o keyboard (plastic wrap) Place light handle barriers on light handles Tape Ziploc to counter. Use biohazard sticker only as needed according to OSHA guidelines for contaminated waste. Dental Unit Water System Distilled water only must be used in the unit water bottle. The bottle holds sufficient water for a normal day s use. Heavy users may require a refill during procedures. The bottle simply unscrews counterclockwise for refilling. Use caution when filling bottle as to not overfill the bottle because it will leak all over the floor. Return the bottle and replace turning clockwise until screwed on tight. NOTE: There is an O-ring/washer that must be seated all the way up into the bottle Tulsa Comm. College Page 5 of 9

6 mount. If the O-ring/washer is not seated properly then the water will not flow through the dental unit for the air/water syringe or handpiece connectors. Use caution when removing and replacing bottles as to not lose or throw away the O-ring/washer. Hazardous Waste Disposal (exam-type specific): o Hygiene: Procedure for disposal of blood/saliva-soaked waste. Container on the floor and one by dispensary B. Sharps Disposal: o Containers at every unit, under the sink cabinet o One in Dispensary Emergency Medical Equipment: o AED on 2 nd floor by elevator o Emergency cart in clinic by near unit 1 by desk 4.
