Aims and Scope The aims and objectives of this journal are: To promote the practice, education and research specifically related to the specialty of pediatric dentistry. To advance the science and art of pediatric and preventive dentistry. To promote the exchange of current and innovative procedures, as well as basic and clinical research in all areas. Focus on clinical research to enable researchers and scientists to communicate their findings to the rest of the community. To promote student research in pediatric dentistry. To promote optimal oral health and oral health care for children. 2. Ethical Considerations Investigation and surgery on human subjects should conform to the guidelines noted in the World Health Organization Chronicle 1976; 30: Manuscripts submitted for publication must comply with the following ethical considerations: Informed Consent Informed consent of the patients must be taken before they are considered for participation in the study. Patient identifying information, such as names, initials, hospital numbers, or photographs should not be included in the written descriptions. Patient consent should be obtained in written and archived with the authors. Protection of Human Subjects and Animals in Research When conducting experiments on human subjects, appropriate approval must have been obtained by the relevant ethics committees. All the procedures must be performed in accordance with the ethical standards of the responsible ethics committee both (institutional and national) on human experimentation and the Helsinki Declaration of 1964 (as revised in 2008). When reporting experiments on animals, authors must follow the institutional and national guidelines for the care and use of laboratory animals. 3. Copyright Following guidelines must be followed before submission of the manuscript: The articles must represent original research material, should not have been published before, and should not be under consideration of publication else where. This however does not include previous publications in form of an abstract or as part of published literature (review or thesis). It is the duty of the author to obtain the necessary permissions for extensive quotations, tables, illustrations, or any other copyrighted material they are using in the paper before a paper can be considered for publication. Copyright of the article gets transferred to Jaypee Brothers, once the article has been accepted for publication. The author would be asked to sign the Copyright Transfer Form before his/her article is considered for publication. Once the Copyright Transfer statement has been signed by the corresponding author, no change in authorship or in the order of the authors listed on the article would be accepted by Jaypee Brothers. Also by signing the above mentioned form, the author reassigns the rights of copublishing, or translation if considered necessary in future to the publisher. In the advent of occurrence of any dispute, the matter would be resolved within the jurisdiction of New Delhi court. 5 Editorial Maxillary Melanotic Neuroectodermal Tumor of Infancy No Two Children are the Same! How often have you said that? Take any patient visiting our dental facility. They may be the same age but are they all alike? No! How do they differ from one another? Some are tall; others are small. Some are shy; others are forward. Some learn quickly; others are slow. Some points we pedodontists world over, would concur is that Every child is an individual: Thereby we must make sure that individual needs are assessed, and only then treatment planned, or else we surely would be failing in our duty to render optimal oral health care. Assessing needs: A clinician must start assessing the treatment needs not only based on knowledge and diagnostic techniques but most importantly rely on simplistic methods which can be easily applied to enable diagnosis. Understanding the diverse backgrounds of our pediatric patients would enable us towards more conclusive diagnosis. Working together: We must work with whosoever is available to help every child attain optimal oral health. These groups may include teachers, parents, health professionals, community workers and disabled persons organizations to the benefit of their children. It is important for pediatric dentists to forge partnerships with other professional colleagues where they are available so that they can be supported in their efforts. Likewise, close links need to be forged among schools and with other groups in the community so that children s oral health care needs are addressed out of school as well as within it. Pedodontists and pediatricians can have a major impact on oral health outcomes for children because of the opportunities provided by early intervention such as counseling families, identifying high-risk children, initiating timely dental referrals, and administration of appropriate preventive modalities. I, strongly, am of the view that pediatricians can play an important role in children s oral health outcomes, particularly since they typically see young children early and often. We surely could initiate proper oral health risk assessment training in performing an oral examination for pediatricians, thereby minimizing serious oral health consequences in children.
