Optical digital impressions with Sirona Connect are an innovative, precise alternative to conventional dental impressions. The intraoral digital data are calculated to create a 3D model and sent directly via internet to a dental laboratory of choice. Two possibilities for manufacturing physical models offer the dental laboratory additional flexibility for restorations: centrally produced or in-house with a milling unit. Central Model Production The laboratory sends the 3D model data to Sirona s central model production. Valuable working time which was previously used for cleaning the conventional impression, pouring materials, capping, setting the pins, cutting the stone model and placement of model segments is thereby saved. The model is made out of an acrylic synthetic resin using an SLA stereolithography production process. Models with the new inlab MC XL An interesting alternative to centrally produced models are those which are milled in-house with the inlab MC XL milling unit. Dental laboratories are now able to control the entire digital process from the receipt of digital impressions and model milling to the CAD/CAM creation of the restoration.
