4 Executive Summary IDEM Singapore 2014 This year s IDEM Singapore demonstrated why it is Asia s leading dental trade fair and scientific conference with record breaking numbers of exhibitors, conference tracks and attendees. IDEM Singapore 2014 saw more than 500 exhibitors from 38 countries showcasing the latest innovations in clinical dentistry, dental technology and patient care across every segment of the dental market. The IDEM Singapore trade fair was the largest staged at the newly renovated Suntec Singapore Convention and Exhibition Centre covering 16,000 sqm. The trade fair and conference welcomed 7,842 participants from 61 countries over four days. IDEM Singapore 2014 proved itself to be not only a must-attend trade fair event but also a must attend scientific conference. The conference theme was Dentistry - The Future Is Now. The extensive scientific conference ran for four days, and featured 45 different sessions and 36 international speakers. It also introduced new tracks this year to represent the diversity in today s dental team including dental technicians, dental hygienists and therapists. With the growth that IDEM Singapore has experienced over our past few additions, comes the responsibility of giving back to the Asia-Pacific dental community. Our supporting programs like the Scientific Poster Competition and the IDEM-APDSA Student Leader Program furthers research in the field of dentistry and nurtures dentists-to-be in the Asia-Pacific region. IDEM Singapore will continue to play a strategic role for its exhibitors in facilitating their development and outreach. We will continue to strengthen IDEM Singapore s position as the preferred platform for companies looking to launch new dental solutions into Asia, by continuing to bring in the key buyers from the region. We hope that IDEM Singapore will grow to become not only a gateway to Asian markets but also a portal to the rest of the world. 15 New Conference Tracks New Conference Tracks To meet with the needs of quality dental education and training for the entire dental team, IDEM Singapore 2014 saw the addition of 3 NEW forums to its Scientific Conference. New Dentist Forum The New Dentist Forum is interesting. We had three speakers, different characters - so different experiences and different ways of delivering their experiences. What young dentists and dental students need is not just the clinical research or the studying; it s practical guidance on taking on the various career pathways as well. A Dentist from Indonesia Dental Technician Forum The Dental Technician Forum is very useful as it addresses the problems in the dental industry. It s good to know that we have the same problems everywhere in the world and that we are sharing the solutions. A Dental Technician from the Philippines Dental Hygienist and Therapist Forum The Dental Hygienist and Therapist Forum had clear and precise speakers. I could identify with the speaker and it was very up-to-date about products and instruments that could also be found in the IDEM Singapore exhibition. 17 Supporting Program Supporting PROGRAM IDEM Singapore supports the Asia-Pacific dental community by investing in its development and future. IDEM Singapore Poster Competition The IDEM Singapore Poster Competition is an effort to recognize and further scientific research in the field of dentistry. Researchers and clinicians are invited to submit their abstracts and selected submitters are invited to present during IDEM Singapore. The 2014 winners include: 1st Prize Winner: Su-Hwan Kim Differential Expression of MicroRNAs in Saliva of Patients with Aggressive Periodontitis: A Potential Biomarker for Aggressive Periodontitis IDEM-APDSA Student Leader Program Nurturing dentists-to-be is important to us. The IDEM-APDSA Student Leader Program, now in its second edition, sponsors 2 students per country in the Asia-Pacific region to learn, assist and network with their peers at IDEM Singapore saw a total of: 24 Selected dental students 2nd Prize Winner: Chang-Kai Chen Minimally Invasive ER: YAG Laser for Crown Lengthening: A 6-month Clinical Study 3rd Prize Winner: Ang Gim Hoon Management of Young Children with Difficult Behavior during Dental Treatment Through Use of Safety Blanket 19 Asia-Pacific Universities represented Best Layout & Consolation Prize: Sebastien Felenc Integrating the Dynamic Occlusion Threw the Digital Workflow: Evaluation of a Future Technology Best Presenter: Jivanaa Subramaniam A 7-day In-Vitro Experiment Conducted to Find out the Effects of Popular Acidic Beverages on Extracted Premolars IDEM-APDSA SLP 2014 was an unforgettable experience.
