AnotherfindingofinterestfromStudywasthatruminationprovidedbetterfitto thedataastwocorrelatedfactors,oneforgeneralrumination(includingcatastrophizing) andanotherforangerrumination.thisfindingindicatesthatalthoughvarioustypesof ruminationmaysharesimilardysregulationproperties,suchasincreasingnegative affect,theyalsobesomewhatdifferentfromeachother.animportantexampleofthis differencewasthatgeneralruminationwasmorestronglyrelatedtotheexamined dysregulatedbehaviorsthanangerrumination,whichwassignificantinmanyanalyses untilgeneralruminationwasusedtopredictit.thismaybebecausetherewereno aggressivebehaviorsusedasindicatorsforthebehavioraldysregulationlatentvariable. Itseemslikelythattheinclusionofameasureofaggressioninthislatentvariablewould haveincreasedthestrengthoftherelationshipbetweenangerruminationandthe behavioraldysregulationlatentvariable.thisdifferenceinruminativeprocessesmay alsoindicatethatanemotionalcascadeonaspecificemotionmayleadtoamore specificbehavior,suchasanangercascadeleadingtobehaviorssuchasthreatsor physicalaggression,andasadnesscascadeleadingtomoreselfbdestructivebehaviors suchasbingebeatingbehaviorsornssi.itwasalsointerestingthatthethoughtsof RevengesubscaleoftheARSdidnotfitwellwiththeotherruminativeprocessesinthe measurementmodel.apotentialexplanationforthisisthatthisformofrumination increasespositiveaffect,ratherthannegativeaffect,althoughitmaydosoina maladaptiveway(selbyetal.,inpress).thisprovidesanewpotentialavenuefor ruminationresearch,mainlythatcertainformsofruminationmayactuallyincrease positiveaffect.
