27 Validation in pregnancy Preeclampsia All Microlife fully automated upper arm blood pressure monitors can be used during pregnancy and preeclampsia. Common electronic blood pressure monitors have significant difficulties in measuring during pregnancy and especially during preeclampsia. This means that, when measurements are taken with these devices, preeclampsia may NOT be detected. For this reason healthcare authorities require a specific validation test among pregnant women and those who have preeclampsia before automated blood pressure devices may be recommended for use during pregnancy. Risks of preeclampsia Preeclampsia can reduce the blood flow through the placenta so that the baby receives less oxygen and nutrients. This can cause low birth weight and other problems for the baby. Ear temperature measurement is a convenient choice as it provides good results in a short time and the measuring site is easily accessible. Axillary temperature determination is very easy and convenient. Yet for obtaining highly accurate results another measurement method should be chosen. This measurement me thod is very convenient, easy and fast. In addition, it provides accurate re sults and is therefore a recommendable way of temperature measurement.
