2 is designed to provide fun and motivating oral-motor activities for preschool and school age children who demonstrate weak oral-motor functioning. This reproducible workbook provides wonderful illustrations coupled with detailed descriptions for each exercise making therapy understandable and interesting for all children. The activities are designed to improve strength and coordination of the lips and tongue. The ink daubers serve as the motivation component while the students demonstrate specific oral skills. There are multiple game sheets for each exercise so that skills can be practiced on more than one occasion and to ensure strength and mastery. To use this workbook, the instructor should select a game sheet which targets the student s specific area of need. A model of the exercise depicted on the worksheet should then be given by the instructor. Each student should get an ink dauber and then therapy can begin! Some game sheets need specific materials or props (i.e., tongue depressors, straws, food items, etc.) in order to perform the exercises, but those pages are clearly sectioned in the Table of Contents as Exercises with Props. The exercises that do not require any outside materials are labeled as Exercises without Props. Instructors can customize their own exercises by using the Master Sheets provided in the last section of the book. A convenient chart is also included at the beginning of each section to allow for personalized tracking of progress and completion of exercises. Many students find the use of the ink daubers motivating time after time; however, other items can be used as incentives as you progress through this book. The replacement of ink daubers with motivating stickers, small snacks, or magnetic chips that the students may place in the circles upon correct movements/exercises are alternatives. The students can also color the circles upon completion of the exercises. Use your expertise and knowledge of your students as your guide. DOT Oral-Motor provides a unique, motivating, and flexible format for students as they work on improving their oral-motor skills! iv
