The product is not intended for use by children or persons with reduced physical, sensory or mental capabilities, or lack of experience and knowledge, unless they have been given supervision or instruction concerning use of the product by a person responsible for their safety. 24. Do not operate for more than 30 minutes continuously. It is recommended to turn off the Chair and allow it to rest (cool) for 40 minutes before re-using. This will prolong the life of the Chair. 25. Do not perform continuous massage on the same spot of your body for more than 5 minutes at a time as this may result in excessive stimulation and may have adverse effects. 26. Children should be supervised to ensure that they do not play with the product. 27. Use heated services carefully. May cause serious burns. Do not use over sensitive skin areas or in the presence of poor circulation. The unattended use of heat by children or disabled persons may be dangerous. 28. Temperatures sufficiently high to cause burns may occur regardless of the control setting. Do not use on an infant or invalid or on a sleeping or unconscious person. Check the skin in contact with the heated area of the appliance frequently to reduce the risk of blistering. 29. Never use the Chair on open skin eruptions, swollen or inflamed areas. 30. Do not operate after taking pain killers, sedatives or alcohol. 31. Do not apply massage rollers directly on the head, elbow or knee joints, torso or abdomen. 32. Instances when the chair should not be used In the following events, please turn off the main power switch immediately and disconnect the power cord from the electrical outlet: If water is accidentally spilled onto the chair. This may result in electric shock or malfunction. If the fabric of the backrest is torn and the internal components are exposed. If pain or discomfort is felt during massage, stop operation immediately and consult your doctor. If you detect any malfunction or any other abnormal condition during operation. If there is a power failure. Injury may occur when power is restored unexpectedly. If there is lightning. 2. Assembly and repair of the chair Do not disassemble the backrest cover of the chair. Touching the internal components may result in malfunction or electric shock. The chair must only be professionally serviced or repaired. Do not attempt to disassemble or repair the chair yourself. 3. Things to note about the power plug and cord Check that the Alternating Current (AC) voltage corresponds with the specification indicated for the chair. Do not connect or disconnect the power plug from the electrical outlet with wet hands. This may result in malfunction or electric shock. When disconnecting the power plug, pull it by holding the plug, not the cord. Although operation will be stopped automatically by the Auto-Timer function, always remember to turn off the main power switch after use. Do not place the power cord under the chair or any other heavy objects. Do not wind the power cord around the chair as this may damage the cord and result in a fire or electric shock. Do not operate chair with a damaged cord or extension cord. Do not use the chair if the electrical outlet is loose. If the power cord is damaged, it should be replaced by a qualified technician. 5

8 4. Grounding Instructions This product must be grounded. If it should malfunction or break down, grounding provides a path of least resistance for the electric current to reduce the risk of electric shock. This product is equipped with a cord or an equipment-grounding conductor and a grounding plug. The plug must be plugged into an appropriate outlet that is properly installed and grounded in accordance with all local codes and ordinances. DANGER Improper connection of the equipment-grounding conductor can result in a risk of electric shock. Check with a qualified electrician or service technician if you are in doubt as to whether the product is properly grounded. Do not modify the plug provided with the product if it will not fit the outlet, have a proper outlet installed by a qualified technician. This product is for use on a nominal 110V circuit and has a grounding plug that looks like the plug illustrated below. Make sure the product is connected to an outlet having the same configuration as the plug. No adapter should be used with this product. 6

13 Setting Up the Massage Chair Preparation Before Use Moving the Brookstone Recover 3D TM Massage Chair Move the chair by lifting the foot rest and firmly grasping the handholds Roll it to the desired location Gently place the chair back onto the floor Caution Do not move the Brookstone Recover TM 3D Massage Chair when there is someone sitting on it. This will cause the Brookstone Recover TM 3D Massage Chair to tip over resulting in accident and injuries. 11

15 Preparation Before Use Caution Caution It is recommended that a carpet be placed under the Brookstone Recover TM 3D Massage Chair to prevent scratching the floor and to reduce noise level during operation. As the Brookstone Recover TM 3D Massage Chair is heavy, please exercise extra care not to damage the floor when positioning it. Maintain a minimum distance of 3 feet from AV devices, such as a TV or radio, to prevent signal interference. Use the Brookstone Recover TM 3D Massage Chair only when it is placed on an even, flat surface. Power On/Off Connect the appropriate end of the power cord to the power outlet on the back of the chair. Then plug the other end of the power cord into a standard 110V electrical outlet. Turn on/off the main power switch, located at the back of the Brookstone Recover TM 3D Massage Chair to power the chair on/off. Caution Ensure the power cord is not placed under the Brookstone Recover TM 3D Massage Chair. Ensure all switches are turned OFF (including the main power switch) before connecting the power plug to an electrical outlet. Caution Always check to ensure that there are no holes or tears on the backrest pad. Stop using the Brookstone Recover TM 3D Massage Chair immediately if you find even the slightest tear. Unplug the Brookstone Recover TM 3D Massage Chair and contact Brookstone Customer Service at

16 Preparation Before Use Sitting on the Brookstone Recover TM 3D Massage Chair The rollers are usually stored in the upper part of the backrest. This position is known as the home position. If the rollers are not in the home position, reset by pressing the power button on the controller on and off again before sitting on the massage chair. One touch to Zero Gravity Simply press the Zero Gravity button once to recline to Zero Gravity position. Press again to return from Zero Gravity. How to recline the backrest To recline the backrest, push and hold the (Recline button) until the backrest is at your desired angle. To raise the backrest, push and hold the (Incline button) until the backrest is at your desired angle. Raising and lowering the foot rest The foot rest can be raised independently for additional benefit. To raise the foot rest, press and hold the foot rest button until the foot rest is at the desired angle. To lower the foot rest, press and hold the foot rest button until the foot rest is at the desired angle. Foot rest extension and retraction Raise the foot rest until your feet are placed at a natural position. Stretch your feet to a comfortable position. The foot rest will retract or extend and stop at an appropriate position. To use the heat function Press heat button to turn on/off the heat function. 14

17 Preparation Before Use Caution Do not place fingers or objects in the gap between the seat and the backrest / leg rest. CAUTION Remove shoes when using chair. Do not sit or stand on leg rest unit when it is elevated. ALWAYS retract the leg rest unit to its original position after use. CAUTION Please refrain from putting hands and arms in between the backrest and side frame mechanism to prevent injury when the backrest rises. Caution When adjusting the backrest and foot rest, always ensure there is no object under the foot rest/seat and keep children or pets away to prevent injury. Do not sit on the Brookstone Recover TM 3D Massage Chair with the foot rest raised. Any sudden heavy weight on the foot rest could cause damage to the mechanism, accident and injury if the Brookstone Recover TM 3D Massage Chair tips over. Ensure that the backrest returns to its full upright position before sitting on the Brookstone Recover TM 3D Massage Chair and reclining it according to your preference. Do not place fingers or objects in the gap between the seat and the backrest/ foot rest. Ensure that there is no obstruction when adjusting the angle of the backrest/ foot rest. CAUTION Keep hands and legs away from the gap. 15

18 Massage Programs and Selections Automatic massage programs You may select any automatic massage program that best suits your needs by pressing the respective automatic program button on the controller. Press Power button to switch on the massage chair. Brookstone Recover TM 3D Massage Chair will recline to its Home position and the LCD on the controller will light up. If no selection is made after 3 minutes, the chair will go into sleep mode and the LCD light will go off. Any button pressed on the controller will wake up the controller from sleep mode. (Home position: Leg rest will raise slightly and backrest will recline slightly.) Select any of the 14 automatic programs. (Programs listed on next page). The massage program begins once scanning is complete. You can adjust your desired shoulder position by pressing the or button, within 5 seconds after scanning is complete. The massage progress is shown on the LCD display. After the massage is complete, the rollers will return to their home position and the chair will return to the Ready position. Press the power button to exit the chair. Remote Display Sleep Mode NOTE: Display will go to sleep after 3 minutes. Press any button once to wake it up. Pressing again activates the command of that button. Note Keep each massage session to no longer than 20 minutes. Do not massage any particular area of the body for more than 5 minutes. 16

Sequences for foot & calf, seat, arms, hands and shoulders. Body Stretch A series of grab, hold and stretch sequences using the chair and foot recline motors, combined with traditional massage techniques. Helps with muscle recovery and benefits of stretching. Neck & Shoulders Sequences of neck, shoulder and upper back massage techniques while increasing recline. Generates deeper penetration due to increasing gravitational force. Stress Relief Program to help reduce stress carried in upper and lower back. Works foot and calves to help relieve stress from prolonged time on your feet. Night Sequence of massage and chair movements to help relax you for a good night s sleep. Starts with quick massage and ends with air only. Note: this program does not signal 1 minute remaining or return the chair to the home position after competition. This is on purpose, to not disturb the state of deep relaxation. To return to the home position, press the power button. Extend Alternative stretching program, designed to mix massage with stretching motions and result in the benefits of both. Utilizes 3D motion to extend the back and foot massage to relieve the calves. Back Relief Helps to relieve lower and upper back aches through a series of massage techniques. Morning Start your morning right with a sequence of massage techniques as the chair progresses from Zero Gravity to the Home position. Massage programing is designed to increase in intensity as your body gets ready for the day. Lower Body Focuses on lower back, seat and foot massage. Soothe Program built for soothing relaxation. Utilizing sequences of air cell massage and gentle rolling techniques for the least intensive massage. This program defaults to 3D off but you may select to add it by hitting the 3D button to desired intensity. Posture Combines stretching and massage techniques. Movement helps renew your body with the benefits of massage. Flex Series of twisting and stretching using air cell grabs, holds and chair movement. Integrated massage throughout the program. Energy The most intense of the massage programs with deeply penetrating massage techniques. This program defaults to 3D Level 4. For less intensity, use the 3D button to lower the level.

20 Massage Programs and Selections Custom Massage You may select and combine your favorite massage areas by pressing the custom massage buttons. Press Power button to switch on the controller. Brookstone Recover TM 3D Massage Chair will recline to its ready position and the LCD on the controller will light up. If no selection is made after 3 minutes, the chair will go into sleep mode and the LCD light will go off. There are 7 types of custom back massages. Select the custom massage button: Roll/Knead - Press once for Rolling Massage; twice for Kneading Massage. Pressing again will shut off the program Shiatsu - Turn Shiatsu Massage On/Off Shiatsu & Tap - Turn Shiatsu & Tapping Massage On/Off Tapping - Turn Tapping Massage On/Off Clap/Thai - Press once for Clapping Massage; twice for Thai Massage. Pressing again will shut off the program The massage type selected will illuminate on the LCD. Note Keep each massage session to no longer than 20 minutes. Do not massage any particular area of the body for more than 5 minutes. Recline Press and hold the up or down arrow to move the backrest of the massage chair to the desired position. Foot Press and hold the up or down arrow to move the foot rest of the massage chair to the desired position. Adjust While the rollers are moving, press and hold the up or down arrow to move the massage rollers to the desired location. Air Zone Use to select where you would like the air cells to massage. Each press of the button will show the corresponding location on the LCD screen. Zone Adjusts which areas you want to focus your back & seat massage. Each press cycles through Back, Waist, Seat, Back & Waist, Waist & Seat and Whole Body. Roller Width Press to adjust massage roller widths. Repeated pressing will cycle through Narrow, Medium and Wide. This function is only available in rolling modes. Node Speed Press to increase the frequency of roller kneading & tapping. Each press will cycle through Slow, Medium and Fast. 18

21 Massage Programs and Selections Adjusting automatic programs, localized area programs & manual program settings 3D Button Each press will increase intensity from OFF to MAX. One bar equals Off, five bars equals Max intensity. Air Button Press to increase the air bag intensity. Each press will cycle through level 1 to level 5 intensity. One bar equals Low, five bars equals Max intensity. +5 Button First press rounds program duration up to the nearest 5 minutes. Each additional press adds five minutes to the program, up to a maximum of 30 minutes. Heat Button Press to turn the Lumbar, Foot, and Back Roller heat functions on or off. Zero Gravity Button Press to recline the chair automatically to a Zero Gravity position, second press will return chair to Ready position. Pause Button Will temporarily pause all massage functions. Rollers do not return to their home position. To resume press Pause button again. Foot Setting Button Press to turn foot roller and foot air cells on or off. Each press will cycle through foot roller off, air cells off, foot roller and air cells off. 19

22 Massage Programs and Selections Changing the massage program You may change from one massage program to another without having to wait for a program to complete. If you select a different program when an auto program is running, the rollers will return to the home position and begin the new program. If you switch to a manual program, the rollers will continue to move up or down and will not return to the home position. Stopping a massage session Press the Power button to stop all massage functions. The rollers will move back to the home position and all air bags will deflate, ending the massage session. Chair will return to the Home position. Hitting the current program button again will end the program and return the chair to the Ready position while it waits for the next command. Note In an emergency or any malfunction, press the Power button to bring the rollers to the home position Turn off the main switch Caution To avoid accidents and malfunction of the Brookstone Recover TM 3D Massage Chair, switch off the Main Switch and disconnect the power plug from the electrical outlet after use. Always disconnect the power plug from the electrical outlet if the Brookstone Recover TM 3D Massage Chair is not being used for a period of time. Pausing a massage session To pause the chair, press the Pause button on the controller. This will temporarily freeze all operations. Press the Pause button again to resume massage. Storing the remote When you have completed your massage session, store the remote in the remote control holder. 20

23 Care and Storage Storing the Brookstone Recover TM 3D Massage Chair Wipe off dust and dirt from the Brookstone Recover TM 3D Massage Chair with a soft, dry cloth after use. Keep the Brookstone Recover TM 3D Massage Chair clean and away from places of high humidity. If the Brookstone Recover TM 3D Massage Chair is not going to be used for a long time, cover it with a dust cover and disconnect the power plug from the electrical outlet. Caution Caution against discoloration Do not store the massage chair under direct sunlight or in places of high temperature. This may cause the color of the upholstery to fade. Do not allow the massage chair to remain in contact with vinyl or wallpaper for extended periods of time as this could lead to discoloration. Cleaning the Brookstone Recover TM 3D Massage Chair Caring for Zip Out Foot Liners Before removing liners, ensure that the main power switch is turned off and the power plug is disconnected from the electrical outlet. Check the foot liners prior to every use. To clean the liners, unzip from the foot rest and remove. Hand wash or wash the foot liners in a Gentle Cycle. To prevent injury, do not use the Brookstone Recover TM 3D Massage Chair/foot rest until foot liners have been placed back in the foot rest. Return the liners to the foot rest and zip them in. Caution Do not use abrasive cleaning agents like benzene or thinner to clean the Brookstone Recover TM 3D Massage Chair. This may cause the upholstery to fade. Do not iron the fabric of the massage chair. Do not use a wet cloth to clean the controller. This may result in malfunction. Before cleaning, ensure that the main power switch is turned off and the power plug is disconnected from the electrical outlet. Wipe off dust and dirt from the Brookstone Recover TM 3D Massage Chair after use. The Brookstone Recover TM 3D Massage Chair can be cleaned thoroughly using a damp cloth. Do not pour any liquids directly on to the chair. Do not iron the upholstery. 21

24 Troubleshooting If you encounter problems with operating the Brookstone Recover TM 3D Massage Chair, please check the following points to see if they can be rectified. If the Brookstone Recover TM 3D Massage Chair still malfunctions or does not work, please switch off the Main Switch of the Brookstone Recover TM 3D Massage Chair and remove the power plug from the electrical outlet. Contact Brookstone Customer Service at for servicing. Do not dismantle or attempt to repair the Brookstone Recover TM 3D Massage Chair yourself. Doing so will void the warranty and Brookstone will not bear any responsibility for any subsequent consequences. The Brookstone Recover TM 3D Massage Chair could be overheated after prolonged use. Chair will automatically cool down to resume its normal operation. Please turn off the power and allow the chair to cool for 30 to 50 minutes. The Auto Timer may have lapsed. Press any program button to restart the massage. The Power button was pressed accidentally. If the Brookstone Recover TM 3D Massage Chair stops and fails to restart as a result of overheating, turn off the main power switch and do not operate the Brookstone Recover TM 3D Massage Chair for 30 to 50 minutes. Display screen goes to Sleep after 3 minutes to prevent screen burnout. Press any button and the screen will awaken. The remote is in sleep mode. The 1st press awakens the remote, the 2nd will activate the command. This is normal if the chair is in idle mode. The remote may need to be rebooted. Turn off chair. Unplug remote for 2 minutes and plug back in. Turn chair on and press power button again. 22

27 TWO (2) YEAR LIMITED WARRANTY Brookstone warrants this product against defects in materials and/or workmanship under normal use for a period of TWO (2) YEAR from the date of purchase by the original purchaser ( Warranty Period ).
