That makes it a plant so chocolate is therefore a SALAD. - Said the convicted individual that didn t quite live up to their Q1 Wellness Goals Quarter 2 is in full swing and faculty, staff, and PE/Wellness students are reviewing, reevaluating, and refocusing their wellness plans. Whether in an individual meeting or together with their peers, we are looking back on those goals that were set to be accomplished in Q1. Some individuals nailed their Big Hairy Wellness Goal and Wellness Steps, others missed the mark on just one or two, and some honestly forgot what some of their steps even were. Regardless of where you fell in that range, the good thing is we all get to start fresh! Granted, that person that nailed all of their goals now gets to build off of what they accomplished while others of us are back to the starting blocks. The important thing to remember is We are all on a journey. What will you do TODAY to better your health for tomorrow? Honestly, I don t want to be perfect. There are a lot of things perfect never does. Perfect never improves. Perfect never experiences the glory of waking up sore after making an effort to get to the gym the previous day. Perfect never challenges expectations nor seizes the opportunity to fight to become something more. Progress, my friends, is what we strive for. Yes You DO have time to exercise: ONE HOUR of MOVEMENT Is what you need to combat the negative health effects of sitting for 8 hours a day Do you seem to come up with every excuse in the book as to why you don t have time to exercise? Well, my friends, you no longer have an excuse. Check out this awesome TIME Magazine article and the great exercises you can complete at your desk. Exercise: Chair Squats Good for: Getting your booty as toned as the printer How to: Standing 6 from your chair, lower yourself down until your butt touches the edge of the chair, then pop back up. Exercise: Standing Calf Raises Good for: Strengthening calf muscles How to: Standing behind your chair, start with your feet together and raise your calves. Hold for 10 seconds, release and repeat Exercise: Get a (leg) raise Good for: Tightening your abs How to: While sitting in your chair straighten your legs and hold for ten seconds and lower. Repeat Exercise: Desk Push-ups Good for: Strengthening arms How to: With both hands on your desk, shoulder width apart, walk your feet back to a 45- degree angle. Do a dozen push-ups.

4 4 Radio Stars on the Rise: This Wednesday CGLA students took over The Perch: UTC s Landing Station for their second radio segment of the semester. With the initial chitters and nerves gone from the first show, the girls did a fabulous job digging into the topic of bullying. Bullying is something many folks have experienced whether directly or indirectly. Candace Jones kicked the show off with a personal bullying story. It was a powerful testimony that took a lot of courage to share! Thank you Candace. Brynija Loyd led us through the interview portion asking CGLA s own school counselor, Jessica Wright, many probing questions about how to prevent bullying, what to do if you are being bullied, and what causes individuals to become bullies. A big thank you again to the Health and Human Performance and Communications Departments at UTC for opening up this opportunity for our students. Our next show is Wednesday, November 9 th at 4pm! Some of the topics they are covering with students are Health Promotion, Sleep and Activity, Nutrition, Obesity, Abuse, Self-Esteem, and much more! Not only is awesome information being shared, but also students are learning more about opportunities for careers in the area of Allied Health. We are so thankful to have this partnership with ChattState! Be on the lookout as we will be partnering with their dental hygienists students soon!
