ABSTRACT The present study deals with ethnomedicinal plants use by the people of village Nawargaon tahasil Sievahi of District Charapur (M.S.), Iia. The people from these region with a vast heritage of diverse ethnic culture a rich biodiversity is said to be a great emporium of ethnobotanical health. Studying medicinal plants helps to uersta plant toxicity a protect human a animals from natural poisons. Nawargaon is surroued by dense forest a the people collect the medicinal plant by their traditional knowledge which is used for some common diseases. Cultivation a preservation of medicinal plants protect biological diversity, for example metabolic engineering of plants. The present survey was coucted for documented of traditional knowledge a practices of plants. The present paper enumerates traditional uses of 48 different plant species. This knowledge was even passed through generation to generation a played an important role in the conservation a sustainable use of biodiversity. The medicinal plants have played an essential role in the development of human culture, for example religions a different ceremonies. The plants have been the important source of medicines used by man from prehistoric times for relieving suffering a curing ailments. The need for the integration of local iigenous knowledge for a sustainable management a conservation of natural resources received more a more recognition (Posey, 1992). In Iia, it is reported that traditional healers use 3000 plant species a 100 species of plants serve as regular source of medicine (Pie, 2001). The quest for documentation of traditional knowledge has been concentrated especially arou traditional health practices. In Iia, many iigenous plants are used in herbal medicine to cure diseases a heal injuries. Tribal people have been in the practice of preserving a rich heritage of information on medicinal plants a their usage. They have both the knowhow a do-how for preparing the medicine a its administration. If this information is yet to be collected systematically a comprehensively a maintained in databases in a manner they would help in protecting their knowledge. The objective of this study is to document the traditional medicinal plants used by the peoples of Nawargaon tahsil of Charapur district (M.S.), Iia. II.MATERIAL AND METHODS Charapur a Gadchiroli district are rich in forest area thus provides healthy habitat for floral & faunal diversity. Nawargaon is a small Page No-1

It is located 20 to 22 on latitude a 79 to 34' 60 E, with altitude ranging 270 meter above sea level. Since the area is recognized as paddy growing zone every small village is surroued by several small local water bodies. Nawargaon has rich heritage of Culture a Social activities. Nawargaon drama group represented Iia in the International SARC festival organized by the government of Kerala in The traditional knowledge about the plants for treating the common diseases was collected from peoples, especially traditional healers a village medicine-men from January 2012 to December Monthly visit a interviews of local a tribal peoples of villages were carried out for gathering the information about the ethnomedicinal plants a documents their knowledge for future generation. III.RESULT AND DISCUSSION The present study was primarily aimed to investigate the plants used by the local a tribal peoples of villages for their medicinal values. During the present investigation 48 different plants species used for a medicinal purposes by local a tribal peoples. A brief information including botanical name, family, local name, parts used a their medicinal value by the peoples is given in Table No.1. The local people a the tribal villagers are using these plants to cure many diseases Vomiting, Skin diseases, Fatigue, Blood purifier, Antipreganancy, Urinogenital disorder, Toothache, Menstrual disorder, Hypertension, like Cough, Diarrhea, Dysentery, Wou healing, Diabetes, Jauice, Sunstroke, Fever, Headache etc. They prepare the plant product as decoction, oral treatment, ointment etc. The extracts a the paste are the two main methods for treatments of diseases. The number of researcher work a studied on ethnomedicinal plants in Maharashtra a other states of Iia by Ahmed a Sinha, (2009); Ahmed a Perween, (2009); Prasad (2009); Borkar a Theng, (2010); Iqbal et al.,(2010); Ahir el al., (2011), Borkar et al., (2012); Zingare, (2012); Khoe et al., (2012); Dhore et al., (2012); Zingare et al., (2013); Shrirame a Hiwale, (2013); Watile, (2013); Wadekar et al., (2013); Ghoshal a Saoji, (2013); Puranik, (2013); Go, (2013) a Pocchi, (2013) a Harney, (2013). The local uses of plants as a cure are common particularly in those areas, which have little or non access to modern health services (Faulk, 1958), such as the innumerable villages a hamlets in Iia. The ethnomedicinal plants are uer threat due to deforestation, overgrazing a their neckless utilization. It iicates the urgent need of their conservation for sustainable development (Burlakoti a Kunwar, 2008; Kunwar a Dawadee, 2003). It is essential that ethnomedicinal investigation should persistently be carried on a efforts should be made for proper protection, cultivation a conservation of these precious medicinal plants in a large scales so that professional requirements can be fulfilled (Muller, 2003). Due to commercial harvesting deforestation, uncontrolled grazing the medicinal plant diversity is being largely threatened a many species have come uer critically eangered category. With the active support of local a villagers, importance of these economically important plants could be utilized for the benefits of our future generations.
