2 TYPES OF BOTANICAL EXTRACTS We manufacture the highest grade of botanical extracts for use by a wide range of industries, including for the food, beverage, pharmaceutical, health and agricultural industries. Botanical extracts can be supplied in a wide range of forms and potencies, depending on its function, application and intended purpose. There are various types of botanical extracts available, ranging from soft to strong and liquid to solid, depending on which stage of the extraction and manufacturing process they are derived from. The type of botanical extract required will depend on the specific application and purpose for which it is required. TINCTURES Liquid form extract, containing between 1-5%* botanical extract. Tinctures are manufactured by soaking the plant material in a carefully selected solvent or blend of solvents. This soaking process, also known as maceration, extracts the active ingredients of the plant into a solution, which can be filtered into a tincture liquid. The tincture can be used as a stand-alone form of botanical extract, or is most commonly used as a starting material for manufacturing other forms of more potent botanical extracts. SOFT EXTRACTS Semi-solid (paste) form extract, containing 65-75%* botanical extract. Soft extracts are manufactured in the same manner as liquid extracts, except that the concentration /evaporation process is conducted for longer, resulting in a more potent extract, with a paste-like appearance. * Approximate values STRONG INFUSIONS Liquid form extract, containing between 5-10%* botanical extract. Strong infusions are manufactured in the same manner as tinctures, however they are more potent due to the use of a higher concentration of plant materials versus solvent(s) during the initial soaking stage. The strong infusion can be used as a stand-alone form of botanical extract, or is most commonly used as a starting material for manufacturing other forms of more potent botanical extracts. SPRAY-DRIED EXTRACTS Powder form extract, containing between 25-30%* botanical extract. Spray-dried extracts are manufactured from a starting soft-extract. The soft extract is encapsulated in a special carrier matrix through a spray-drying process, which creates a fine powdered botanical extract that is soluble in water. LIQUID EXTRACTS Liquid form extract, containing between 15-25%* botanical extract. Liquid extracts are manufactured from tinctures, which are concentrated and made more potent through an evaporation process. This process takes place in a controlled vacuum to protect the active ingredients extracted from the plant material during the initial soaking stage. DRY EXTRACTS Solid form extract, containing more than 95%* botanical extract. Dry extracts are also manufactured from a starting soft extract. The soft extract is concentrated through a drying process using high pressure and temperature to remove all residual liquid solvents that were used in the initial soaking stage. THE PROCESS OF MANUFACTURING BOTANICALS b Maceration The botanical raw material is soaked in a solvent for a specified time to extract the active ingredients into the solution. Raw material Bark, leaf, twig, root, flower, plant. Filtration The macerated solution is filtered to recover the liquid part, which now contains the active ingredients. Liquid Concentration The filtered liquid is concentrated through evaporation, in a controlled vacuum to protect the active ingredients. Liquid Evaporation The liquid extract is further concentrated through evaporation, in a controlled vacuum, to create a more viscous or paste-like extract. Paste Drying The soft extract is dried under high pressure and temperature to remove all the residual solvent, creating a concentrated powder extract. Solid Solvents Ethanol, propylene glycol, glycerine, water, terpenes (Individually or in a mixture).
