Minutes from our May meeting were approved by all in attendance. Election of Steering Committee & Officers: Bios for steering committee members and officers were sent out electronically prior to the meeting. Hard copies were made available. All current members are renewing for the July 1, 2018 June, 30, 2019 term. Our bylaws allow for up to 15 members on our steering committee and we currently have 13 members. The floor was opened for new nominations and none were heard. Can also elect new members throughout the year as needed. Mike entertained a motion to nominate the slate of 13 candidates as presented. The floor was opened for new officer nominations. None were presented. All in attendance voted unanimously to elect the slate of officers as presented. Officers for : Mike Jackman Chair Deb Schopperle Vice Chair George Gorgizian Treasurer Review of Year s Accomplishments: Mike shared an overview of SSCPP s accomplishments and highlights this year. Have had many great panels this year. If you have any suggestions for next year, please send ideas to Mike or to Kim at Mike reviewed monthly panels and/or topics: September: Substance Use Panel- Chief Botieri and Bob Hollis, Plymouth Recovery Center October: NAMI In Our Own Words presentation and focus group on eliminating barriers to health literacy November: Acquired Brain Injury panel December: Compassion Fatigue- Donna White January: Housing Panel Part 1 (problems) February: Housing Panel Part 2 (housing providers/ potential solutions)

4 March: Meeting cancelled due to snow storm April: Community Health Workers panel May: Deaf/Hard of Hearing and Substance Use panel June: Annual Meeting and Representative Josh Cutler: Current Legislative Health Issues Also held our first annual Health Literacy Awards Breakfast in April. Dispersed over $26,000 in grants and hope to increase this next year through our new behavioral health grant. SSCPP Grants: Behavioral Health Grant application deadline is September 14 th. Next mini grant deadline is July 15 th. Details on our website: The SSCPP Health Compass grant is no more. Our contract ends in August and so the grant is discontinued. New Health Literacy Coordinator: Bethany Bergin will be joining us as our new HL Coordinator! She will dig deep in our HL initiative and action plan. Have openings on our HL Committee and welcome new member interest. Resource table: Are rebuilding our resource table. Mike reminded all to bring new materials and brochures for September s meeting. Mini Grant Presentation: New Heights at Algonquin Heights in partnership with the South Shore Conservatory presented by Malissa Kenney, Kathy Dunn and Anne Smith For this New Heights initiative, Algonquin Heights, an affordable housing community in Plymouth, partnered with South Shore Conservatory in Duxbury. New Heights Mission: to provide after school creative enrichment opportunities for children, teens and families living in the Algonquin Heights affordable housing community. Programs offered through grant from June 2017 April 2018 included: Drumming circles for teens and community members; South Shore Conservatory Youth Chorus- 10 singers from AH participated and were provided transportation to SSC s Duxbury campus; creative dance; family story time. Also partnered with Tera Curra to create a beautiful garden. In total, 160 kids were served. Programming provided social/emotional benefits. Plan to serve middle and high school students moving forward. Presentation: Representative Josh Cutler- Current Legislative Health Issues Mike introduced Rep. Josh Cutler. He represents the Sixth Plymouth District of Massachusetts in the State Legislature (Duxbury, Hanson and Pembroke). Discussed three items on the legislative docket lately. The current legislative cycle ends on July 31 st.

5 Section 35 Bill: A person with an alcohol or substance use disorder can be civilly committed if he is a danger to himself for up to 90 days. Practitioner (often the parent) is not notified if a person is released early. Working to pass bill to have practitioner notified of early release. Promote Prevent Bill: Created by Rep. Cantwell. Currently being reviewed before healthcare finance committee. Want to make focusing on prevention permanent. Would mandate a switch to electronic script for opioids. Peter Kocot Healthcare Bill: Tackles healthcare cost containment and focuses resources on community hospitals (creates a community hospital reinvestment fund). Currently in process. Rep. Cutler shared cards on Duxbury FACTS and Knights of Columbus Friends Don t Let Friends Die campaign tackling the issue of overdose abandonment. Opened the floor for Q & A. The floor was opened for agency announcements. The next meeting is scheduled for September 12 th. Have a great summer!
