1 SCHOOL PEER GROUPS INSTRUCTIONS for GROUP LEADER 1. Contact all Catapulters at your school and tell them about the program 2. Book a meeting place (see further instructions below) 3. Confirm attendance of Catapulters (some may not be able to attend and that is okay but you want to ensure enough are attending to proceed) 4. Plan and lead the meeting (using our agenda) 5. Complete the group s strategic plan (using our form) and have each member sign it 6. Complete the meeting report 7. Return the meeting report and a copy of the your group s strategic plan to us by at lori@catapultcamp.com or fax Give this package to whoever is leading the next meeting.

2 HOW TO SCHEDULE YOUR FIRST MEETING 1. Pick a date (approx. 2 weeks from now). 2. Pick an alternative date in case of conflicts. 3. Choose a time that coincides with your school s lunch hour and will allow at least 45 minutes for a discussion. 4. Find a room where you can meet in privacy and reserve it. You might talk to a favourite teacher or you can talk to your guidance counselor. 5. Inbox each Catapulter at your school with the message below. 6. If the student is not on Facebook, or did not reply to your message, then phone them confirming attendance is very important to the success of your program. 7. Review the meeting agenda and pay attention to the time allotments for each agenda item so that you stay on task. 8. Plan which icebreakers you choose to use (you can choose from our suggestions or make up your own)

3 First Meeting Agenda 1. Introductions (5 minutes) Have each Catapulter introduce themselves. o include name, street address, junior high, current grade. 2. Read the following objectives and answer any questions. If you can t answer a question, include it on your meeting report and we will respond to it. (5 minutes) The new School Support Groups are intended to create an opportunity for peer mentorship and leadership growth by forming groups of Catapulters that all attend the same high school. OBJECTIVES: - To provide a way for Catapulters from different years to meet. - To strengthen the Catapult family peer network. - To create opportunities for Catapulters to support each other. - To create opportunities for Catapulters to engage in leadership activities together. This will be a student driven initiative. Each group will pick their own leader (after this first meeting), each group will decide how often they want to meet, they ll each decide what they d like to focus on (eg. moral support, doing leadership exercises, maybe some volunteer work). And each subsequent year, as the group evolves with some Catapulters graduating and the new Grade 10 s joining, they can reinvent themselves as they wish. 3. Complete 2 simple group Icebreakers (10 minutes) a. Favourite teacher/subject b. Most disgusting thing you ve ever eaten (or you can substitute these suggestions with your own ideas) 4. Together, create your group s strategic plan using the draft outline attached. Each member should sign to show their agreement. (15 minutes) 5. Closing icebreaker (5 minutes) 6. What s next? (5 minutes) a. Favourite Catapult memory (Based on what the group has decided when will you meet again? Who will plan it? What will you do?) Total expected meeting time = minutes
