Page 3 Backgrounder Mission: Our team is committed to providing a fun, trendy and interesting way to allow students to donate their winter coats to a local shelter. Key Publics: Longwood Students Secondary Publics: All college students Action Desired from Publics: A desire to participate and to donate their coats, We ultimately would like to create a buzz on the campus by having them live tweet from the event. How the action ties into their own self-interest: Longwood Students will get the satisfaction of not only donating for charity but also getting their 5 minutes of fame. Issue: Measuring the success of the event might be difficult and also there might be a lack of winter coats this time of year. Messages: Primary Messages: Donating your winter coat is cool Be apart of the cool trend Third party influential and how will they be used: Create a promo video that goes along with an event page to see how many students will attend Talk with Longwood Mass Media students who taped the first Happy video
Page 4 Partner Organizations 1. The Rotunda provides us with broadcasting experience and promotional platforms About them: The Rotunda is a student-run news source that serves the Longwood University and Farmville communities. We provide reliable news using a variety of media and we bridge the gap between the question and the truth. But we are more than just news - we are your voice. From the arts and entertainment to opinions about the world around us, we report it all. Our ink has run blue since Lancer Productions promotional platforms and experience with similar events About them: Lancer Productions is Longwood's very own event planning agency and LU's Premiere Programming organization. LP has 7 different committees that are responsible for planning weekend events such as comedians, musicians, novelty acts, slam poets, speakers and upholding Longwood's entertainment history.
Page 5 Strengths: Promoting our event Providing an unique experience Student Interest SWOT ANALYSIS Weaknesses: Interest might not continue Students might not actually bring coats to donate at this event Hard to gage the success of such a big event Hard to organize such a large event for this semester, might have to push it to next which would cause students to loose interest Opportunities: Outside organizations that might want to participate Providing an unique experience Student Interest Partner with Office of Student Engagement Project could actually expand to more than just this one time video Threats: Student s lack of interest Happy movement could start to decline as a trend Low attendance or no coats
Page 6 Evaluation of HAPPY Coat Interest Meeting: Goals: We expect at least 20 students to attend We want a chance to sit and discuss what each prospective member wants from this event to gage their commitment to this event We will provide information on the event and what coats will be accepted and also provide light refreshments Create a Facebook event page and include this interest meeting Strategies and Tactics: Advertising with flyers around campus and our Facebook page Advertising that their will be refreshments always draws students in Mini flyers to be handed out to the students on Brock Commons while a WMLU DJ plays music. There will also be black and yellow balloons with an informational table Objectives: We want to provide students with a chance to get involved with the planning efforts and have them help our efforts to promote We want to make them feel part of this hip movement, by asking for their input We will asked them to also start tweeting and invite their friends to this event
Appendixes Page 7
