2 New England Donor Services - About us An affiliation (Jan 2017) of the two The federally-designated, non-profit Organ Procurement Organizations (OPOs), New England Organ Bank and LifeChoice Donor Services, responsible for the surgical recovery of organs and tissues for transplant throughout the New England region and Bermuda. NEDS is dedicated to saving and enhancing lives through organ and tissue donation.

6 Living Donation Most organ and tissue donations occur after the donor has died. But some organs can be donated while the donor is alive. Nearly 6,000 living donations take place each year. That's about 4 out of every 10 donations. Most between family or close friends Or, altruistic living donors There is no registry for becoming a living donor see list of NE programs

9 The Need 115,000 men, women and children are waiting for a lifesaving organ transplant in the U.S. imagine filling 3 stadiums!

10 The Need On average 22 people a day do not survive waiting for their transplant due to lack of available organs Every 10 minutes another name is added to the organ transplant waiting list 2% of the deaths that occur each year present the right circumstances for organ donation The vast majority of Americans report that they would donate their organs after death
