Reach to Recovery ~ For over 30 years, ACS s Reach to Recovery program has connected women (and men) facing breast cancer with the comfort and inspiration only a fellow survivor can provide. This program helps breast cancer patients and their loved ones address the emotional, physical, and social issues related to breast cancer. This experience begins when someone is faced with the possibility of a breast cancer diagnosis and continues throughout the entire period that breast cancer remains a personal concern. 4 American in order to increase prevention and early detection Body and Soul ~ A faith-based outreach program (developed with the National Cancer Institute) for African-Americans which reinforces the importance of a healthy diet in decreasing the risk of cancer and other diseases. The program teaches participants the skills they need to change their behavior and provides them with social support from church mentors to make healthier food choices and take steps to ensure a healthier future. American in order to increase prevention and early detection Tell A Friend ~ Tell A Friend uses a proven intervention (peer counseling) that involves one-on-one efforts by volunteers to encourage friends and family to get a mammogram. This special effort by someone she knows may convince a woman to get a mammogram, or it may bring her closer to making that decision in the future. Available in Spanish, Chinese, Korean, Vietnamese, and Tagalog. Meeting Well ~ Meeting Well provides tips through training and a guidebook, that help people plan healthy, nutritious meals for business meetings and events. Coordinated School Health Education ~ ACS partners with schools, community members, and local wellness coalitions to promote healthy school environments and healthy lifestyle choices for children in the areas of nutrition, physical activity, tobacco prevention and smoke free environments. American in order to increase prevention and early detection Quitline ~ Smokers looking to quit can get the support, motivation, and counseling they need through Quitline by calling ACS-2345 anytime. Callers get more than just moral support; they earn scientifically-proven ways to double their chances of quitting successfully. Currently ACS provides services in the following states: Delaware, Florida, Kansas, Louisiana, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Texas, and Vermont. Man to Man ~ A community-based education and support program offering practical information and support to men with prostate cancer as well as opportunities to educate their communities about the disease. The program also has a group education, discussion and support component for men with prostate cancer and their loved ones.
7 American in order to increase prevention and early detection Great American Weigh In ~ Is ACS s alliance Weight Watchers International to promote the role of a healthy lifestyle in reducing cancer risk, and to help promote healthy changes in communities throughout America. The annual campaign's purpose is to educate the public about the link between obesity and cancer, help people assess their risk based on body mass index, and offer tips for improving nutrition and physical activity levels. Let s Talk About It ~ A community-based prostate cancer awareness and education program for African-American men to help them understand their increased risk for prostate cancer and the importance of early detection in saving lives from prostate cancer. (Developed with 100 Black Men Of America, Inc.) American in order to increase prevention and early detection Look Good Feel Better ~ Through this free service, patients in active treatment learn techniques to restore their self-image and cope with appearance-related side effects. Group programs are available for women where licensed cosmetologists provide skin care, head coverings, and makeup tips to women undergoing cancer treatment. Group programs for teens also cover the topics of nutrition and self-esteem. Self-help materials are available for both men and women. Materials are also offered in Spanish, and bilingual programs are available in some areas. This information is also available on the following web sites for women, men, and teens: L.G.F.B. is collaboration with the Cosmetic, Toiletry, and Fragrance Association Foundation and the National Cosmetology Association.

The tool serves as a patient prompt to discuss cancer tests with the health care professional at that visit. Pain Initiatives ~ Many ACS divisions work collaboratively with healthcare organizations and coalitions to address cancer pain through educational, outreach and advocacy activities. American in order to increase prevention and early detection Great American Smoke Out ~ Held annually on the third Thursday of November, the event focuses the public s attention on cessation support services provided by the Society which can double a smoker s chances of quitting for good. In many communities, local volunteers support quitters, publicize the event, and press for laws that control tobacco use and discourage teenagers from starting smoking. Great American Health Check ~ Is an online assessment tool available at The Health Check helps users understand which cancer early detection tests they should take to find cancer early when treatment is more likely to be successful, or to prevent cancer altogether. Fresh Start ~ A four-week behaviorally based smoking cessation program.
