However, despite this staggering statistic, there is hope, and we are saving lives. Thanks to the support and generosity of people like you, the American Cancer Society has played a part in nearly every major cancer breakthrough in recent history, investing more than $450 million in research since With your help, we can make even greater progress, and we invite you to become a sponsor of our 24 th Annual Hope Fashion Show. Hosted by the Auxiliary, this grand tradition will be on Monday, April 27, 2015, at a new venue, the InterContinental in Buckhead. The Hope Fashion Show is a major fundraiser for the s programs, collecting funds specifically for research, early detection, education, and patient services. The Hope Fashion has been a yearly sellout of more than 600 guests, and we have raised over $1.5 million for the American Cancer Society. 7 Programs and Services If you or a loved one is diagnosed with cancer, this is how the can help you: The is the nationwide community-based volunteer-based health organization dedicated to eliminating cancer as a major health problem by preventing cancer, saving lives, and diminishing suffering from cancer through research, education, advocacy, and services NCIC, National Cancer Information Center A call to the s 24-hour, toll-free information service can be a critical step in helping people facing cancer understand their disease and decide how to overcome it. Trained cancer information specialists are available 24 hours a day, seven days a week to answer questions about cancer, link callers with resources in their communities, and give information on local events. The service is predominately in English and Spanish but other languages are also supported. At visitors can find the latest information about all types of cancer, new treatments, links to publications and medical directories, and more. Cancer Survivors Network SM This online community created by cancer survivors connects patients, survivors, and their loved ones with others who have been there for insight, moral support, and inspiration. It provides several forums for people to express their personal struggles with cancer available online at Hope Lodge For patients whose best option for treatment is far from home, Hope Lodge provides a comfortable, nurturing environment where the patient can stay free of charge and focus on what is most important fighting their disease. A family member is also accommodated to be with the patient. Hope Lodges are located around the country. Call to plan your stay if you need treatment far from home. Look Good Feel Better Certified beauty experts provide women cancer patients free cosmetic tools and tips on overcoming treatment side effects and restoring their pre-cancer appearance and self-esteem. Cosmetic beauty professional volunteers provide tips on makeup, skin care, nail care, and head coverings. Cosmetic kits are provided to patients attending group programs. Kits are available in Light Medium Dark and Extra-Dark. This program is a collaboration of the American Cancer Society with the Cosmetic, Toiletry, and Fragrance Association Foundation, and the National Cosmetology Association. Road to Recovery SM Patients need not worry about how to get to and from their treatments when trained volunteers offer free transportation, as well as friendship and support, along the way. Volunteer drivers not only deliver patients to treatments, but they also wait with them and return them to their homes to help make cancer treatment as accessible and comfortable as possible. Patient Navigators Our navigators help guide you through the maze of the health care system coordinating appointments with work schedules, and assisting with consistent treatment and follow-up. Patient Navigators are at Gwinnett Medical Center, Northside Hospital, Grady Health System, and Northeast Georgia Medical Center.
